Vivekananda Memorial and Museum in Rameswaram
Vivekananda memorial is located near Kunthukal beach in Rameswaram. It is located on the south west side of Rameswaram Island which is about 15 kms from Rameswaram Temple and 8 kms from Pamban Beach. Vivekananda memorial is beautifully constructed with a statue of Swamy Vivekananda at the center of the hall. Entry is Rs 5/- per head. You can take pictures inside the Memorial. There are three items to see here, first the Memorial, second “Vivekananda Interpretation Center cum Museum” and third the Kunthukal Sea beach. You can take pictures inside the Memorial as well as in the museum. After visiting the memorial and Interpretation center we visited Kunthukal Sea beach.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial & Thiruvalluvar Statue, Kanyakumari
Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a sacred monument and popular tourist attraction in Kanyakumari, India. The memorial stands on one of two rocks located about 500 meters off mainland India's southernmost tip. A meditation hall (Dhyana Mandapam) is also attached to the memorial for visitors to meditate.
The Thiruvalluvar Statue is a 133 feet tall stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and Saint Thiruvalluvar. It is located atop a small island near the town of Kanyakumari.

Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial:
Memorial to Swami Vivekananda has been built on a rock situated some 400m offshore. In fact, there are two rocks side by side projecting out of the sea. The rock is approachable only by boat which provides a pleasure cruise into the sea.
Swami Vivekananda came down to Kanyakumari on 24.12.1892 before his departure for Chicago to participate in the World Religious Conference in 1893. He sat on meditation on this rock for two days and became a powerful spiritual leader and philosopher. The Memorial inaugurated in 1970 and is a blend of various architectural styles of India. It is an architectural masterpiece. The Memorial was constructed in 2081 working days with an average of 650 men working. The Memorial consists of two main structures.
Towards the end of 1892, after three years of wandering across the length and breadth of India, a young monk found himself at Kanyakumari, the southernmost point of the country. To quell the questions raging in his mind, he leapt into the sea and swam across shark-infested waters to reach a holy rock in mid-sea—the very last bit of Indian land.
On the rock, he meditated, taking in the whole of India as it were, from that vantage point. At the end of three days and nights, the monk found enlightenment on his life’s mission: to arouse the nation from its dismal slumber of a thousand years of slavery and rediscover its past glory.
Thus was born on that rock, Swami Vivekananda—the spiritual teacher, prophet and patriot-monk of modern India. The rock became doubly blessed.

Swami Vivekananda’s magnificent memorial attracts tourists in Rameswaram
Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), Jul 11 (ANI): Swami Vivekananda’s memorial in Kundhukal in Rameswaram Island is a major tourist attraction in the state of Tamil Nadu. The memorial was constructed at a budget of over Rs1crore. The memorial was constructed under public-private participation (PPP). Department of Tourism contributed Rs 47 lakh. An institution named Sri Ramakrishna Tapovanam, Thirupparaithurai near Tiruchirappalli collecting donations of Rs 60 lakh from philanthropists. The memorial was built on a 5-acre land. It was constructed here after Vivekananda returned to India after attending the Parliament of World Religions at Chicago in 1893 followed by a series of lectures in the United States and England. Kundhukal is the place where Swami Vivekananda returned by a steamer on January 26, 1897 after undertaking the historic tour to western countries, speaking at various universities, institutions on India, its culture, people, Hinduism and other things. The elegant architecture and sculpture work makes it a top most tourist destination in Rameswaram Island.

The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, visited Vivekananda Rock Memorial and Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari from December 25 & 26, 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that we have gathered at a place which continuously emits to us highly positive vibes. It was this spiritual power of the rock at the very feet of Bharat Mata which drew Swami Vivekananda to Kanyakumari in his quest for inner peace. On this day 127 years ago, in 1892, Swamiji began deep meditation on this sacred spot. In three days and three nights, a simple monk transformed himself into an enlightened being and a global messenger of Bharatiya Sanatan Dharma Sanskriti. Swamiji attained enlightenment here and sparked a unique spiritual revolution. It was not for an individual’s own salvation; it was for the rejuvenation of the religious values of the motherland and service of its people.
In this context, let me recall letter by him written on 19th March, 1894, Swamiji wrote about his plans. He envisioned selfless sannyasins going from village to village, educating people and working to improve their condition. He wrote, We, as a nation, have lost our individuality, and that is the cause of all mischief in India. We have to give back to the nation its lost individuality and raise the masses.”

It was built in 1970 in honour of Swami Vivekananda who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock.According to local legends, it was on this rock that Goddess Kumari performed austerity. A meditation hall known as Dhyana Mandapam is also attached to the memorial for visitors to meditate. The design of the mandapa incorporates different styles of temple architecture from all over India. The rocks are surrounded by the Laccadive sea. The memorial consists of two main structures, the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam.
Next to the Vivekananda rock is another rock with Thriuvalluvar Statue, a Tamil philosopher and poet who authored Tirukkural.

Located 500 meters away the mainland, Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a place of great scenic beauty, historical importance and religious significance. Undeniably one of the most popular places to see in Kanyakumari, this rock is considered to be holy as well as an architectural wonder. Vivekananda Rock Memorial is one of the two rocks located slightly away from the mainland.
On this rock, a captivating memorial of Swami Vivekananda has been built which was inaugurated in the year of 1970. This was to honour the great saint and leader of India, Swami Vivekananda who has visited Kanyakumari in 1892, a few days before leaving for Chicago for World Religious Conference. He had then visited the rock and meditated here for two days.
The religious importance is this rock owes to the belief that this rock has imprint of Goddess Devi Kumari’s feet and hence it is said to be blessed. Sripada Mandapam and Vivekananda Mandapam are two places to see here on the Rock memorial.

Vivekananda Rock Memorial is a sacred monument and popular tourist attraction in Vavathurai, Kanyakumari, India. The memorial stands on one of two rocks located about 500 meters off mainland of Vavathurai, India's southernmost tip. It was built in 1970 by the Vivekananda Rock Memorial Committee in honour of the visit of the great spiritual teacher Swami Vivekananda to Shripada Parai during the month of December 1892 for deep meditation and enlightenment. He swam to this rock and meditated about the past, present and future of India. It is said that he attained enlightenment on the rock, and henceforth became a reformer and philosopher.
From very ancient times, the rock has been regarded as a sacred place. The mythical tradition states that it has been known as 'Sripada Parai', meaning the rock that has been blessed by the touch of 'the sacred feet' of the Devi Kumari. On the rock is a projection similar in form to a human foot and a little brownish in complexion, which has traditionally been venerated as a symbol of Shripadam. According to legend, it was on this rock that Devi Kumari performed austerity.
A meditation hall (Dhyana Mandapam) is also attached to the memorial for visitors to meditate. The design of the mandapa incorporates different styles of temple architecture from all over India. It houses a statue of Vivekananda. The merger of three seas - Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean can be seen from these rocks.
Led by the concerted efforts of Shri Eknath Ranade, who made it his life mission to establish the memorial and the Vivekananda Kendra, overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles of politics, funding and labour, the Vivekananda Rock Memorial was dedicated to the nation in 1970.
The memorial consists of two main structures, the Vivekananda Mandapam and the Shripada Mandapam.
