Cavtat - kuća Vlaha Bukovca
EPIDAURUS FESTIVAL CAVTAT - Kuća Bukovac The Bukovac House
HRT - Prilog Vijesti iz kulture. Used with permission.
Project of the Epidaurus festival in collaboration with The Bukovac House Museum. First concert in the Bukovac native house. Beautiful contribution of the Croatian national television. Thank you, Epidaurus festival.
The Bukovac house is the childhood home and museum of Vlaho Bukovac (1855 - 1922), the most important Croatian painter of the Fin de siècle, who to this day enjoys an international reputation. The building, a stone structure of two floors with an entrance courtyard and spacious back garden, preserves the architecture typical of Cavtat houses from 1800. Its interior sets apart: several rooms of the house are decorated with murals done by the young Bukovac. The museum rich permanent contains pieces from Vlaho Bukovac's entire ouvre, from juvenilia to works made during his mature periods in Paris, Zagreb, Cavtat and Prague. Apart from paintings and drawings, furniture and other personal belongings that testify to the extraordinary life of the artist and his family, are on permanent display in the Bukovac house. Temporary exhibitions from the museum's holdings or of the contemporary art are held as well in a special section of the museum.
The concert on the July 4th was a first concert ever held in the Bukovac House exactly for the painter's birthday (157) and celebrating also the 150th anniversary of the greatest impresionistic French composer, Claude Debussy who lived and created in the same period. Artists Maria Esther Guzman a guitarist from Seville and Luis Orden a flutist featured wonderful masterpieces from the same or similar period, all stilistically connected. It was a real symbiosis of all arts! A great ocasion for a great painter in his wonderful house in Cavtat.

Cavtat Croatia - Old Town and Beaches
Cavtat is a charming little town located less than 20 km south of Dubrovnik. The Cavtat area is most attractive because of the Mediterranean vegetation which covers the whole area. With its rich and interesting historical heritage, beautiful scenery and a wide range of tourist services, Cavtat is definitely among the most desirable tourist destinations of the region.
Originally it was a Greek settlement called Epidauros. Around 228 BC it was under the Romans and later became a Roman colony. Cavtat became part of the Republic of Ragusa in the 15th century.
The attractions of Cavtat is the Rector's Palace, the Baroque church of St. Nikola, the Franciscan monastery, Bogišić's scientific collection, the Vlaho Bukovac Art Gallery, the Račić Mausoleum, archaeological sites, city walls, the Šipun cave etc.
Numerous beautiful beaches are the main reason that Cavtat is a desirable summer destination for most visitors. Crystal clear and unpolluted sea depths offer perfect refreshment in the hot summer days.
Cavtat also offers a 7 km promenade by pine forests paths only a few meters from the sea.
Numerous bars and restaurants line the waterfront, offering everything from cheap pizza and simple pasta to more expensive local specialties and succulent fresh fish.
Cavtat is very well connected with major Croatian cities through Dubrovnik and Cilipi Airport, while local communications with the surroundings include ship and bus lines.
Although Cavtat is a small town, but it has a lot to offer....

Croatia: Cavtat
Hotel Croatia Cavtat*****
* * *
Epidaurum).

Konavoski Dvori National Restaurant offers traditional dishes from all Croatian regions.
Is this the Mediterranean on the mainland or the mainland bathed in the Mediterranean’s ambience? That’s the question posed by every visitor who steps into Konavoski Dvori for the first time.
The congenial manager of the Konavoski Dvori National Restaurant would politely explain that there is truth to both answers, taking pride in the enchantment of his guests as they see the nearby jubilant stream, the Ljuta, the turning of old water mills, and the staff decked out in the traditional folk attire of Konavle, enjoying the fresh air and temperature which is, during the hot summer months, several degrees lower than in nearby Dubrovnik.
The beauty of Konavoski Dvori lures many of its visitors to tour the entire Konavle region in the southernmost part of Croatia, a rather unique small area that boasts of mountain peaks, a ruggedly beautiful coast, fertile land, and a cultural, historical and natural heritage rooted deeply in local traditions passed down from one generation to the next.
The freshness that flows in with the Ljuta’s torrent is accompanied by the aromas of high-class prosciutto, cheese in olive oil, lamb and veal baked under a baking bell (peka/sače), home-made bread, grilled trout, and the other specialties of Konavoski Dvori, a respected restaurant and a favourite outing locale for Dubrovnik natives and visitors to the Dubrovnik Riviera.
Those who try to fathom the secret of the unique beauty of this undeniably special place, an oasis of tranquillity disturbed only by the roaring of the playful stream and the birds singing, will be additionally surprised by the offer of traditional dishes from all regions of Croatia. The menu of Konavoski Dvori may well inspire guests to explore these regions as well. National dishes, due to the complexity involved in their preparation, are ordered beforehand and served at the appointed time.
Following an unforgettable dining experience, guests will find themselves much closer to finding an answer to whether they visited a continental ambience with Mediterranean flavours and aromas, or the Mediterranean adorned by centuries-old forests on the banks of the Ljuta.
The waters of Ljuta keep flowing, but time stands still. The aromas and flavours of the Konavle field enthral its visitors. “We’ll come back,” they think or say out loud, wishing to explore all of Konavle, which even today is a not yet fully explored jewel in Dubrovnik’s back yard, so to speak.
Konavoski Dvori, the first step to take on this journey, and the protected landscape beyond, await them with open arms to savour the traditional hospitality of Konavle and the opulent gourmet specialties that will not be soon forgotten.

Dubrovnik - Croatia
If you ask anyone what springs to mind when they hear the name Croatia, the chances are they'll say „Dubrovnik, as this beautiful city deservedly basks in worldwide fame. Its main attraction, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the complex of city walls encircling a city of spellbinding beauty. If you visit at the height of summer, it's likely you'll spot a celeb or two in Dubrovnik, but it's equally likely you'll get to know the city itself less well: while the Old Town is heaving with people, you'll miss the vista of the shining paving stones of Stradun, the main street of the Old Town. Once you've done the obligatory tour of the main sights, we highly recommend a visit to the Dubrovnik Art Gallery which organises an international exhibition every year, and the local museums where you'll get to know the history of the city. Visiting the local towns and villages is a must if you spend your holiday in Dubrovnik. Konavle, the hinterland region, offers the chance to get to know the folk customs of the region and its traditional cuisine, and the town of Cavtat is a picturesque gem where you'll find the family home of the artist Vlaho Bukovac (1855-1922), one of Croatia's finest painters. Out to sea, you can visit the green islet of Lokrum just of Dubrovnik's shore, the tiny, sleepy Elafiti islands and, if you can fit it all in, the islands of Mljet and Korcula which are another story altogether.
