Blue Hawaiian Helicopters - Aerial Introduction to the Big Island of Hawaii
Blue Hawaiian Helicopters
The Island of Hawaii, nicknamed Big Island, lives up to its name and reputation for its massive size, active Kilauea volcano and majestic beauty is simply unrivaled like no place else in the world. The helicopter tour heats up by taking you up-close to the molten lava flows, Pu'u Oo vents, lava tubes and eruptions. Next you'll cool down as you soar over hidden waterfalls, Kohala coastline and tropical Waimanu Valley. Experience the ultimate flying adventure by taking a Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour to areas that are remote and inaccessible by ground for an unforgettable ride of a lifetime.
You can see all of this and the best aerial scenery from each of the Hawiaian Islands on our video production 'Visions of Hawaii', available through our e-store at bluehawaiian.com

THE BLUE HAWAIIAN DIFFERENCE There's simply no argument: Blue Hawaiian is Hawaii's #1 helicopter tour company. Blue Hawaiian's aircraft maintenance technicians have received the FAA's coveted Certificate of Excellence, Diamond Award every year since 1998. No other helicopter tour company in Hawaii has ever received this critical recognition. Blue Hawaiian was honored by the FAA for its record 12th straight year in January, 2009, at a ceremony in Honolulu, and the FAA further honored Blue Hawaiian with the very first Certificate of Excellence, Platinum Award. And Blue Hawaiian is the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii certified by the Department of Defense.
Welcome to the Blue Skies of Hawaii. Blue is the only helicopter tour company serving all four major Hawaiian islands: Oahu, Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. That means wherever you go in the Islands of Aloha, you know exactly how to get the world's finest aerial tours: just remember the color of the sky.
We don't just operate the best equipment, we help develop it. From the ultra-quiet, spacious, and powerful 21st-century Eco-Star helicopter to the breakthrough Garmin G500H technology, which gives our pilots astonishing three-dimensional synthetic vision terrain awareness in less than optimal weather; from our pioneering of multi-camera in-flight video, to designing vastly improved cockpit air-conditioning—Blue Hawaiian is always at the forefront of leading-edge innovations for your safety, comfort, and enjoyment. Because when it comes to our guests, good enough is never enough.
The finest pilots in the sky. Blue Hawaiian prides itself on hand-picking only the finest and most experienced pilots—the absolute cream of the profession—and every one of them is a State of Hawaii Certified Tour Guide. Blue Hawaiian is also the only helicopter tour company in Hawaii with its own state-of-the-art Flight Simulator, and the only one that puts its pilots through annual factory and FAA recurrent training.

Thanks to Stefan and his wife for helping me reach the summit of Mauna Kea.
Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano on the island of Hawaii. Its peak is 4,207.3 m (13,803 ft) above sea level, making it the highest point in the state of Hawaii. Most of the volcano is underwater, and when measured from its oceanic base, Mauna Kea is the tallest mountain in the world, measuring over 10,000 m (33,000 ft) in height.
Mauna Kea last erupted 6,000 to 4,000 years ago and is now considered dormant.
With its high elevation, dry environment, and stable airflow, Mauna Kea's summit is one of the best sites in the world for astronomical observation. Since the creation of an access road in 1964, thirteen telescopes funded by eleven countries have been constructed at the summit. The Mauna Kea Observatories are used for scientific research across the electromagnetic spectrum and comprise the largest such facility in the world.

Big Island Aerial Volcanic Landscape
Gently sloping from between three mountains, Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa and Hualalai, comes a landscape that is other worldly. Most people think of beautiful beaches when they think about Hawaii, but here on the Big Island, we have way more than just beaches. This shot was taken as Aa, and Pahoehoe lava combine to make a drastic landscape that is other wise concealed by it’s tall cat tail grass. The flow from this shot moves down towards the Big Island Country Club, which is close to the Pu’u wa’awa’a Cinder Cone State Park.

The Ultimate Maui Helicopter Tour - Maui Dream
See ALL of Maui from a helicopter! This full island aerial excursion takes you through the most stunning sights of Hawaii’s second largest island. Also known as “The Valley Isle,” Maui boasts some of the Pacific’s most stunning and diverse views. This includes: Haleakala National Park, the Hana Rainforest, West Maui Mountains, Lahaina, Kapalua, Kaanapali, and Wailea.
Maui Dream Highlights:
Haleakala National Park: houses a legendary dormant volcano known as Haleakala Crater. “Haleakala” translates to “house of the sun” in Hawaiian, and is the origin setting for the traditional telling of Maui—the demigod who lassoed the sun from from Haleakala’s summit to slow its descent and lengthen the day. As you fly over the park, note the various moon-like craters, giving the sense that you are on another planet.
Hana Rainforest: Home to the legendary “Road to Hana” the Hana Rainforest boasts some of Hawaii’s most illustrious tropical terrain. This extensively lush landscape maintains an abundance of vegetation, surging waterfalls, and plunging pools among vivid seascapes—a truly spectacular sight to behold from the sky.
West Maui Mountains: a foliage-dense range that brings another dimension of dramatic scenery to Maui. Its original name, “Mauna Kahalewai” translates to “The House of Water” due to the land’s notoriety of natural rainwater collection. Aside from being 75% of the island’s water source, Mauna Kahalewai makes for some of the most exhilarating aerial perspectives. Its grand summits and ridges will have you feeling especially miniscule as you are whisked through this tucked away island treasure.

Pololu Valley - Big Island, Hawaii | 4K drone footage
Pololu valley is the most northern of the impressive valleys that are carved into the Kohala volcano at the lush green pastures of the Kohala region on the Big Island. The spectacular views of the valley and the steep cliffs that end in the ocean are worth a trip on their own, but the real thing to do, is hiking to the black sand beach at the valley floor!

Big Island (Hawai'i Island), Hawaii 4K (UHD)
Recorded: May 2019
This is one of the three Hawaiian islands that I decided to visit. I spent three days there, drove 345 miles by car and visited, incl. the places described below.
I think that three days on such a large island is a bit too little. The distances between the points to travel are longer than on other Hawaiian islands.
Big Island, or Hawaiʻi Island is the largest and the southeasternmost island located in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The island of Hawaiʻi is the third largest island in Polynesia, behind the two main islands of New Zealand. Administratively, the whole island encompasses Hawaiʻi County. The county seat and largest city is Hilo where I lived.

Hawaii Travel Guide: Volcano Views, Excursions, & Mama’s Fish House | The Hotel Boss
Touring the islands of Hawaii has been the ultimate adventure. We’ve experienced the best hotels and resorts of O’ahu, the Big Island, and our final destination of Maui. We’ve also worked up a sweat with top excursions, such as UTV-ing around national parks, hiking volcanoes, and an awe-inspiring Maverick helicopter tour. Finally, in Maui, at the Fairmont Kea Lani, we get to enjoy some R&R throughout their sprawling pools, lagoons, and water slides, while hearing a bit about the epic property. Once I got back in my Jeep and made way to get picked up my Maverick Helicopters, things got really interesting. I was able to hear from legendary locals about Maui’s unique history, plant life, and why people come back year after year -- or just never leave. Mahalo, Hawaii!
