Shipman Beach, Puna, Big Island Hawaii Video
Come along with the iloko street crew as we take Leo on his first trip to Shipman Beach Puna Hawaii. Shipman beach is named after the water front estate located on the beach. The W. H. Shipman House is a historic home used by the family of William Herbert Shipman. In 1881 Shipman and two partners (Captain J. E. Eldarts and S. M. Damon) purchased the entire ahupaʻa (ancient land division) of Keaʻau, about 70,000 acres, for $20,000 from the King Lunalilo estate. In 1959, the W. H. Shipman Company sold about 15 square miles (39 km2) of land which became the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision in the Puna District, south of Hilo. It is located at 141 Kaʻiulani Street, named for Princess Kaʻiulani, the last crown princess of the Kingdom and Liliʻuokalani's niece. The public can only access the beach by hiking in from Beach rd. and kaloli dr. in Hawaiian Paradise Park. After about fifteen minutes of walking, comes the jungle part of the hike. The ground is made more of dirt, than lava, and there are tall trees canopying over you. It’s like walking through a tunnel of lush forest. Parts of the trail are very wide, because it use to be a road a long time ago. However, some parts of the trail are very narrow. After a long walk in the woods, the trail gradually turns into an ironwood forest, where the ground looks like a light brown carpet, because of the fallen pine needles. By now, you can see and hear the ocean a short distance away and you know you're not far away from this private beach.Soon, comes a field with tall grass, and a very narrow pathway. Before you know it, you can see the beach. If it’s high tide, there is no beach at all, but if it’s low tide you can see the sand - and let me tell you, this is some really neat-looking sand! It’s not exactly white or black, just sort of a swirly mix of both. In some places it sinks easily like quick sand. There are tall palm trees along the ocean, and on one side, there are trees with branches going over the water. A rope is tied to one of the branches for people to swing into the water with. While you are there, you will probably see some Nene Geese, the rare Hawaii state bird. Thank you for watching, come visit us for some BIG ISLAND adventure.

As you should, by now, know... Alex might be quiet when sat next to me, but he is a thrill-seeker to the fullest. He found this hike on youtube and insisted that we do it. The she you hear us talk about throughout was a cool Target worker that gave us directions. Enjoy the journey, and be happy you didn't have to do anything other than watch. #colex #whiteroad #colitiff #friends #adventure #hike #jungleroad #theresnoway #legendsofthehiddentemple #bluebarracuda
Big Island Hawaii
Amazing Diverse Landscapes of the Big Island of Hawaii
Me and my hubby were amazed while driving around the island, it only takes about 6-7 hrs to drive around the whole island but the landscape changes so diversely its almost unbelievable. Waikoloa in the west is one of the driest cities in the US receiving about 10 inches of rain while 2 hours to the east Hilo is one of the wettest cities in the US, receiving more 130 inches of rain per year, with lava fields, green, black and white beaches, rainforests, valleys, arid desserts , alpine climate on Mauna Kea and one of the earth's most active volcano- Kilauea.
So yea we definitely loved our trip to the Big Island, Hawaii :) ALOHA!

Overnight, earthquakes and lava become the new norm on Hawaii island R Exclusive News
PAHOA, Hawaii In the span of less than 24 hours, Hawaii island shook from the state’s strongest earthquake since 1975, evacuated roughly 1,800 people from lower Puna, and witnessed six new Kilauea volcano lava fissures burn into the small rural community of Leilani Estates.
The volcano, which had been threatening a new lava outbreak for days, opened up the first fissure shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday in the eastern end of the subdivision. The first outbreak was short-lived, lasting only a few hours and causing no known structure damage.
But by Friday afternoon there were at least six active fissures in the community, destroying a home and two other buildings, sending dangerous gas into the air, and forcing the evacuation of the entire subdivision.
Further, the ground shook steadily throughout the last two days, with hundreds of tremors of magnitude 2.5 or higher, with the strongest quake measuring magnitude 6.9 at 12:32 p.m. and centered in Leilani Estates, followed by countless aftershocks. The largest quake knocked out power to thousands, caused slight sea-level fluctuations and scared residents throughout the islands. It did not generate a tsunami.
“Things started shaking side to side. That was huge, the longest I ever felt,” said Hilo resident Bobbie Stivers-Apiki.
Hilo Hawaiian Hotel bellman Alan Shinkai said he was in the elevator during the quake. “I wanted to reach the ground as fast as possible,” he said.

Learn Hawaiian Place Names in 5 minutes-Big Island, Hawaii
In Hawaii English is spoken, but one encounters quite a few words in Hawaiian, especially place names. So the only problem I had was how to say the names of the places. They all looked and sounded practically the same to me. For each island, I found an authentic local person to teach me how to say the names of the major attractions. This is only a subset of the words, if you don't find the names you are looking for, after watching this video, I am sure you can derive it. This is because the language has only 13 letters with 5 vowels and 8 consonants.
This video is for the Big island. For Kauai Island, you may prefer this video:

Honeymoon in Hawaii | Hiking the Kalepa Ridge Trail Vlog
My husband and I went to Kauai, Hawaii for our honeymoon where we went on some awesome adventures. One of those adventures was hiking the Kalepa Ridge Trail in Kauai because the Na Pali Coast and most of the Northwest shore hikes and waterfalls were closed due to storm damage. I know that some of the access roads have since opened up, but we found the Kalepa Ridge Trail on Kauai to be a great alternative.

CSAV Hawaii: Floods vs Drought in Hilo
This video showcases astonishing footage of the 1994 & 2000 floods in Hilo, comparing these to dry conditions in February 2010. Hilo is notorious for being the wettest city in Hawaii, with rain averaging 130 to 200 inches per year at various elevations. But to truly appreciate the floods, you need to see the riverbeds when they are dry; hence this video. To learn more about floods in the Aloha State, visit CSAVs Natural Hazards Hawaii web site, at

Ha'ena Beach (aka Shipman Beach) Hike
It was a beautiful day to stroll through the guava, mango, banyan, coconut, and iron wood trees. We made some new friends from Canada and ended up at low tide at the most beautiful beach on the east side of the Big Island. The turtles were swimming and sunning themselves. There were even whales breaching but I didn't have my drone up in time. Enjoy!
