Mali District Apiculture Farming Workshop
Funded by the Australian Government through its Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's (DFAT) Fiji Community Development Programme (FCDP), WWF-Pacific facilitated a two day Honey Making Workshop for the four villages of Mali District in the Province of Macuata, Vanua Levu.
A major arm of the FCDP project, the workshop is tailored to encourage and empower the District of Mali on alternative income generating projects.
The FCDP initiative also ties in with protecting the third largest reef system in the world, the Great Sea Reef or GSR.
For the people of Mali this is through supplementing income from other income generating projects rather than solely depending on their marine resources.

Vorovoro Cultural Center Village Tour, Northern Fiji
A brief tour of the main visitor's village at the Vorovoro Cultural Center on Vorovoro Island, Mali District, Fiji. Vorovoro is the island residence of the local chief, chief of the Mali District, Tui Mali. His and two other houses are located a few hundred meters further east up the beach from the Dining Area. The Vorovoro Cultural Center provides a way for visitors to become accustomed to and learn about Fijian traditional village life without the direct negative impact created by village stays by culturally-insensitive tourists while still maintaining the ability for an exciting and relaxing vacation experience.
Visitors to Vorovoro spend most of their time in the visitor village, living in bures or vales, gathering at the Grand Bure (the same as a Fijian Tribe), and spending a lot of time around the Kitchen/Dining Area/Firepit. There is a small bank of solar panels that mostly provide light to the kitchen and bure at night and provide the ability to charge devices during the day. There are compost toilets in the village as well as open-air showers up on the hill above the village.
There is reef beginning at the beach and continuing out several miles to the barrier reef that is visible from the island and happens to be one of the longest in the world. Vorovoro Island is part of the Mali District, on the north side of Fiji, just north of the town of Labasa.
