SCUBA DIVING Coron Palawan Philippines | WRECK diving w/ Exploring with Cody
Coron Palawan Philippines is becoming legendary. World class island hopping and beautiful blue water is reason enough to visit. It's already paradise for adventure travel, but the Scuba diving in Coron is a hidden secret. Not many know that it is home to some of the best wreck diving in the world.
Just north of Palawan Island, and about 30 meters below the surface in Coron Bay is a fleet of Japanese warships, sunk by American bombers in 1944 as they were fleeing the Philippines. These ships are massive. Some are over 150 meters long, and almost completely intact.
In this Philippines travel vlog, I team up with Exploring with Cody, and we tag team this incredible location. This was one of my favourite adventures in the Philippines. Let's go back!

My WORST Scuba Diving Day in Coron, Palawan - Philippines Vlog (Episode 7)
We started our day scuba diving in Irako and went down to 39 meters. On the second dive, though, I failed to go down, everyone left me alone and I had to go back to the surface. Bruno still managed to dive and visit Akitsushima and Okikawa.

ISLAND HOPPING IN CORON PHILIPPINES 2019 (LyndzyTIME)
Coron, Philippines is right up there with El Nido as the most popular destination in Palawan - The absolute paradise of a province on the western side of the Philippines.
So, today, I set out to experience some of the most iconic attractions just off shore.
Our first goal for the day is to visit famous spot called the Twin Lagoons - Two absolutely breathtaking shallow saltwater lagoons that are connected by an underwater channel and narrow rock pathway.
The next stop on our voyage is Garden Reef which you can see beautiful corals underwater.
Then next was Skeleton wreck, where the ribs of the ship are all that remain, giving the name, Skeleton Wreck. Little is known about the history of this wreck but it is believed not to be a Japanese ship from WW2.
And lastly, Barracuda Lake, It’s actually a brackish lake which means it’s a mix of salt and fresh water. The lake is known for it's unique thermo-clines, which are distinct layers of cold, warm water and hot water. These thermocline can be experienced while diving. This is caused by the meeting of the cold fresh water and the warm salt water.

The Wrecks of Coron, Philippines
My last dive trip in the Philippines was capped off with 2 fantastic wreck dives off the coast of Coron. The Japanese ship wrecks were a joy to dive into, albeit i was bit claustrophobic at first cause the dive master was taking me into tiny passageways, but it was an incredible experience, and the awesome people from Sangat Island Dive Resort.

SHIPWRECK SCUBA / CORON PHILIPPINES ???????? / TERU KAZE MARU WRECK
IN WORLD WAR TWO, the Philippines archipelago was the site of several fierce battles between US and Japanese forces. During the Battle of the Philippines in 1941 and 1942, Japan invaded Luzon from the north and attacked Manila from the land.
US and Filipino troops, led by General MacArthur, retreated to the Bataan Peninsula. The fall of Bataan, on 9 April, 1942, signalled the victory of Japan in Manila and the northern Philippines. The Bataan Death March is an indelible icon of the brutality of this period of the war.
As American forces battled to liberate the Philippines, the Battle of the Philippine Sea took place between 19-20 June, 1944, followed by the Battle of Leyte Gulf that October. Between these two battles, the US Navy launched a strike force of fighters and bombers to attack a Japanese supply fleet of up to 24 ships at anchor in Coron Bay and around nearby Busuanga Island on 24 September.
THE WRECK - The Teru Kaze Maru is a gunboat or submarine-hunter that lies in very shallow water on the east side of Tangat Island. Starting in only 3m and dropping to 22, it’s as good for snorkellers as divers.

Scuba Diving Girls: Wreck diving Kogyo Maru, Coron Philippines
Wreck Diving in Coron, Philippines on the Kogyo Maru.
Lying on her starboard side in 34 meters of water the Kogyo Maru offers swim throughs into all six holds and through the engine room and bridge area.
Kogyo Maru's second hold contains an incline of cement bags which tumbled as the ship sank. The hold also includes a small bulldozer.
Further inside the hold above the cement bags is a nice tractor and air compressor.
She has impressive intact boilers that make for a very nice swim though.
She sits in 35m of water but most of the interesting things are between 20m and 25m.
Amazing and fun dive.

Morazan Maru Ekkai Maru Wreck Dive Coron Philippines
The Ekkai Maru also known previously as the Morazan Maru was sunk on the morning of September 24th 1944 by American T38s during a bombing run in Coron Palawan Philippines during world war II.
The Earth zoom that i created at the start of this video takes you right down to the location where the ship is currently resting.
The following is an interesting write up by Divebuddy.com
Length: 91.5m
Depth: 25m
Recommended Dive Level: Open Water, Wreck Diver (for deeper penetrations)
Recommended EAN-Nitrox: 36%
Freighter and passenger liner built in England, 1908, sold to Central America, where she served (among others) the route between Honduras and New Orleans. Captured by the Imperial Japanese Navy in Shanghai 1941 and used as an Auxiliary Cargo Vessel.
The origin of this vessel was for long time unknown and many funny or completely wrong statements were made about this mysterious ship. Just recently, in 2006, Marc Julius, a German dive master and wreck-maniac, was that ambitious to check out the secret behind this ship. During the divemaster-course of his wife Eva, the wreck became first time precisely mapped by Marc and Eva and they found out, that e.g. the total length of the ship is 93m (300.3”)only, instead of fantasy-length of 120m and more you can find this sort of nonsense written in many specifications in the internet, magazines or other publications. By means of this detailed mapping, many other evidences and weeks of research in the internet, Marc could disclose the secret of this beautiful wreck. Chapeau! Well done, Mr. Julius!
The Morazán Maru is one of the most popular wrecks of Coron, because of her beauty, rich fish life and relatively easy level. She is lying on her starboard side in 25m of water.
Four big Cargo holds makes it easy to penetrate the wreck. The empty engine-room (the single steam-engine got salvaged in the 60´s) with two impressive boilers left is one of the highlights. Beautiful mysterious atmosphere is there because of the day light coming in from the salvage-hole in the hull, which is rich covered with hard and soft corals.
Big groupers, puffers, schools of baby barracudas, crocodile fishes (flathead), plenty of scorpion fishes (watch out where you put your hands!), occasionally black and white bended sea snakes and turtles.
There is a usually calm, sometimes mild current and the visibility is 3-15m depending on conditions.
I am in no way associated with Divebuddy.com but i wanted to post a link to their website because i found their write up on the wreck interesting.

Okikawa Maru Japanese WWII Wreck Dive in Coron Bay Palawan Philippines
This Okikawa Maru Wreck Dive was completed with Chindonan Dive Resort on 6th October 2019.
Okikawa is the largest wreck in Coron Bay at 160m long. Max depth is 26m with the main deck at 12m. The swim throughs were pretty epic, with some tight squeezes and dark drops.

CORON PALAWAN ( Free diving & Island hopping) Philippines travel vlog
Island hopping in Coron Palawan Philippines!
In this travel vlog I join Exploring with Cody in a Filipino adventure to visit Kayangan Lake, Twin Lagoon, Barracuda lake, and Skeleton Wreck. These incredible islands have been called the most beautiful in the world. If you plan to travel South East Asia, this has to be on your bucket list. It is definitely one of the best places to travel in the Philippines
We had a couple days between scuba diving the shipwrecks of Coron Bay, and exploring El Nido, Palawan. We decided to spend it Island hopping in Coron with our friend Jette. We wanted to do the tour a little bit differently, so we organized a private boat for us three, and left an hour earlier than other boats. This paid off in the end, because these islands are getting very very busy, and we were able to miss most of the crowds.

Sangat Island Dive Resort Coron, Philippines ????????
Sangat Island is a small Island in the Philippines
5 MOST ICONIC Spots You MUST SEE in Coron, Philippines
Coron, Philippines is right up there with El Nido as the most popular destination in Palawan - The absolute paradise of a province on the western side of the Philippines.
After a 5-day Trip with Tao, I only had 48 hours to explore the area, and I took up half of that time yesterday diving the Japanese war ships of wwii.
So, today, I set out to experience some of the most iconic attractions just off shore.
As far as boat tours go in Coron, there’s a ton of different operators and you can negotiate price right here at the market where the captain’s start each morning.
You can jump on a group tour starting at about $20 bucks; which usually includes food and snorkel gear - but I decided to rent a private boat to take my time and go where I wanted.
For this option, I negotiated a price of about $50 US dollars.
Our first goal for the day is to visit what’s said to be the cleanest and clearest lake in all of Asia - Kayangan Lake.
The next stop on our voyage is to another famous spot called the Twin Lagoons - Two absolutely breathtaking shallow saltwater lagoons that are connected by an underwater channel and narrow rock pathway.
One of the best aspects choosing the private tour is that when you get hungry, you can stop whenever and wherever you want.
Barracuda Lake, I’m told, is normally the least crowded of the three stops. Most groups skip this spot because to experience it’s true uniqueness, you really need to scuba dive.
It’s actually a brackish lake which means it’s a mix of salt and fresh water.
I’m told that until you reach about 14 meters down it’s a cool, clear freshwater and then after that it turns into a warm salt water.
Unfortunately, I was pressed for time, so I just explored the incredible underwater rock formations and met the little creatures who live here.
and despite the name, I didn’t spot any barracudas.
Back on dry land I rush up the 700 plus steps to Mt. Tapyas for sunset, and to get a nice view of town from above.
Maquinit Hot Springs is one of the very few saltwater hot springs in the world. it’s a 30-minute tricycle ride from the town proper of Coron along a rough, curvy road.
It’s said that the water gets heated by a volcano and springs up into the two-tiered pool all surrounded by a cool wooded area, dotted with picnic tables and some relaxing mood lighting.
The water’s pretty hot, so coming at night, when it’s a little cooler outside was a good choice.
I’m glad I’m able to sneak in last minute, and it was a great spot to finish a perfect day here in Coron, Philippines.
