We hope that this becomes institutionalised, that we do this every year, and expand even further - not just in government, not just private sector, but everybody, down to the community that we will be able to save energy at least even for an hour. And not just one hour a year, but if we can do it every year and every month, one hour every month (switches to Tagalog) this is a big thing.

STORYLINE:
Some of Asia's best known landmarks fell dark on Saturday as cities around the region joined the global Earth Hour climate change protest.
Lights were switched off across Hong Kong's famous Victoria Harbour skyline, and the Tokyo Tower in Japan's capital disappeared against the night sky.
In Beijing, Chinese actress Li Bingbing showed up at the iconic Confucius Temple, which turned dark for an hour as municipal government officials announced that the city's energy conservation slogan would be Consume less, Consume wisely.
Philippine officials in metropolitan Manila led hundreds of environmental activists, students and movie and TV celebrities in switching off lights at the Quezon Memorial Circle in suburban Quezon city.
Amid the darkness, some participants pedalled bamboo bikes attached to small energy generators to power LED lights and illuminate a giant Philippine map to symbolise the country's yearning to shift to renewable energy sources, organisers said.

Day 7 & 8 in Hong Kong
July 17, 2017
Blog by Haytam Laroussi
This morning my roommates and I woke up to the sound of hard rain hitting against our room balcony. At first we paid no attention to it due to the fact that it rained excessively everyday since we had arrived. However, little did we know that this rainstorm would turn Hong Kong into a literal washing machine that would impede and make our day’s adventure unpleasant. Just like every other morning, my roommates and I woke up, took a shower, and got ready for what happened to be one of the most unpleasant but exciting days thus far.
The day first started off with what my fellow friends and I call the “Ben Minute.” For those who don’t know what the Ben Minute is, it’s basically a game where Ben has one minute to talk about the first thing that comes to his mind. Today Ben talked about the set-up to World War I.
After having breakfast, the participants and I were immersed into our daily reflections and created our individual mission statements. While having fun discussing our environmental research topics with our mentor groups, our program directors Seigi and Brooke came up with a great exercise in which our groups would observe our surroundings and relate the findings to our research topic. After finishing our reflections, all of the team enjoyed some great burritos (shoutout to Brooke and Seigi for always buying us great food). After enjoying a great lunch, everyone was split into their research groups and sent out into the humid wilderness known as the great city of Hong Kong with nothing but an octopus (MTR) card.
My partner Lucky and I then explored the WWF visitor center and interviewed a couple of people on what they thought about the topic of biodiversity. Although many people refused to answer our questions, Lucky and I were still able to gather enough information from the brochures the center provided to write an awesome research paper. With an hour to spare, my partner and I decided to explore the Hong Kong Zoo and observe the conservatory.
Later in the day, despite the horrible weather, the whole group decided to visit the famous night market and buy souvenirs, all the while getting soaked by rain. After a lot of bargaining, the group made its way back to the Y-Loft to enjoy a great evening reflection. Looking forward to visiting Guangzhou, everyone then prepared for the next day with a good night’s sleep. I’d love to go on more on how adventurous this day was, however, I have an appointment with my bed. Go Patriots !!!

We woke up on a rainy day this morning. At 9:00am sharp, we gathered together to learn about what is going to be different in Mainland China and how we would need to adapt to their system. We then packed all our bags and headed out to take the bus to around 1 hour ferry ride to Zhong Shan. The one thing that I felt interesting about the ferry ride was that on the ferry, they had a stove and utensils where you can order a freshly cooked meal.
Once we got through security and took the bus to the Chinese Overseas Secondary Middle School, we got a warm welcome from many students that are apart of the Students Service Learning Exchange Program. They were so friendly, helpful, and loved our presences once we approached them at the door. They basically would just start running up to you asking questions and had this urge of really getting to know you from the start. Also, each kid from the program even had each of our names on signs that they were holding up to let us know who will we be staying with at their homes. It was definitely such an exciting and memorable moment. I felt honored that all of the students made me feel like a celebrity.
To be able to get more comfortable with one another, we played games that would make us learn more about each other, use team work, and involved patience. Some of these games included working together in small groups to fit our feet on one newspaper which then got harder when they said we had to fold the newspaper to make it smaller, a name/fun fact game to get a better sense of people's background, and having a competition between two groups where each person is given a number secretively and everyone has to get in a line from greatest to least without talking but hand gestures were allowed.
After getting to know a little bit more about each other, we ate in the school's cafeteria. They fed us rice, vegetables, shrimp, meat, and soup. The food was delicious!!! After finishing our meal, I noticed that unfortunately there wasn't any compost or recycling bins. This led all of us questioning why they didn't have these bins.
Once dinner was over, we all headed back to our homestays house to meet their family and to get a goods night rest for tomorrow journey ahead of us.

Bruce Lee was a Hong Kong and American actor, film director, martial artist, martial arts instructor, philosopher, and founder of the martial art Jeet Kune Do, one of the wushu or kungfu styles. Lee was the son of Cantonese opera star Lee Hoi-chuen. He is widely considered by commentators, critics, media, and other martial artists to be one of the most influential martial artists of all time and a pop culture icon of the 20th century. He is often credited with helping to change the way Asians were presented in American films.
The son of Cantonese opera star Lee Hoi-chuen, Lee was born in the Chinatown area of San Francisco, California, on November 27, 1940, to parents from Hong Kong, and was raised with his family in Kowloon, Hong Kong. He was introduced to the film industry by his father and appeared in several films as a child actor. Lee moved to the United States at the age of 18 to receive his higher education at the University of Washington in Seattle, and it was during this time that he began teaching martial arts. His Hong Kong and Hollywood-produced films elevated the traditional Hong Kong martial arts film to a new level of popularity and acclaim, sparking a surge of interest in Chinese martial arts in the West in the 1970s. The direction and tone of his films dramatically changed and influenced martial arts and martial arts films in the US, Hong Kong, and the rest of the world.
He is noted for his roles in five feature-length martial arts films in the early 1970s: Lo Wei's The Big Boss (1971) and Fist of Fury (1972); Golden Harvest's Way of the Dragon (1972), directed and written by Lee; Golden Harvest and Warner Brothers' Enter the Dragon (1973) and The Game of Death (1978), both directed by Robert Clouse. Lee became an iconic figure known throughout the world, particularly among the Chinese, based upon his portrayal of Chinese nationalism in his films and among Asian Americans for defying stereotypes associated with the emasculated Asian male. He trained in the art of Wing Chun and later combined his other influences from various sources into the spirit of his personal martial arts philosophy, which he dubbed Jeet Kune Do (The Way of the Intercepting Fist). Lee held dual nationality in Hong Kong and the US. He died in Hong Kong on July 20, 1973 at the age of 32, and was buried in Seattle.
Legacy
Bruce Lee was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. In April 2013, he was posthumously awarded the prestigious Founders Award at The Asian Awards.
There are several sites dedicated to Lee around the world:
A 2.5 m (8.2 ft) bronze statue of Lee was unveiled in Hong Kong in 2005, on what would have been his 65th birthday. The day before the Hong Kong statue was dedicated, the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina unveiled its own 1.68 m (5.5 ft) bronze statue; supporters of the statue cited Lee as a unifying symbol against the ethnic divisions in the country, which had culminated in the 1992-95 Bosnian War. Another statue of Lee was unveiled in Los Angeles, in the Chinatown neighborhood, on June 15, 2013. It stands at 7 ft (210 cm) tall and was made in Guangzhou, China.
On January 6, 2009, it was announced that Lee's Hong Kong home (41 Cumberland Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong) would be preserved and transformed into a tourist site by Yu Pang-lin. Yu died in 2015 and this plan did not materialize. In 2018, Yu's grandson, Pang Chi-ping, said: We will convert the mansion into a centre for Chinese studies next year, which provides courses like Mandarin and Chinese music for children.
A theme park dedicated to Lee was built in Jun'an, Guangdong. Mainland Chinese only started watching Bruce Lee films in the 1980s, when videos of classic movies like The Chinese Connection became available. Films like Enter the Dragon and Fists of Fury were banned by Mao as spiritual pollution and rightist sentimentality.
In April 2014, Lee was named a featured character in the video game EA Sports UFC, and is playable in multiple weight classes.

WWF-Malaysia Marine Programme: Deep Dive to Protect Our Magnificent Ocean (Short Version)
Malaysia is a treasure trove for marine life surrounded by Andaman Sea, Straits of Malacca, South China Sea, Sulawesi Sea and Sulu Sea. Lying under these large bodies of water is an astonishing and largely unexplored world of coral reefs and marine creatures. Yet, these marine lives face various threats and WWF-Malaysia's Marine Programme works to address and mitigate these threats by focusing on protecting and conserving marine and coastal ecosystems in the most critical areas in the country - the seas off Melaka, Terengganu, Kudat and Semporna, whilst working closely with local communities, community groups, the private sector and local governments.

YTL In Support of Earth Hour 2010
From Pangkor Laut Resort to Starhill Gallery, YTL's icons of Malaysia and Singapore will switch off in support of Earth Hour 2010.
We take the usage of power for granted. And now our planet is paying the price, with global warming. Now, Malaysians have an opportunity to prove that we care about our planet. Earth Hour is happening in Malaysia for the very first time.
For one hour from 8.30pm - 9.30pm this 27 March, all we need to do is shut off the lights in our homes, offices or wherever we are.
If we act as one, this simple act can be a powerful message to the world that our voices will not be ignored any longer. Let's join forces for the preservation of our planet and future generations. Let's switch off.

1,600 Paper-made Pandas on Display in Bangkok
About 1,600 cute paper-made panda sculptures are on display at a shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand, attracting large crowds of visitors from all around the world.
1600 Pandas +, a papier-mache artwork created by French artist Paulo Grangeon for the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) came to Thailand in early march as part of its world exhibition tour which began in 2008 with an aim of raising awareness of panda conservation as well as sustainable development.
The 1,600 pandas, each with its own expression and personality, represent the number of pandas left in the wild. Designers first made the models with clay, wrapped them up with thick waster paper and then carved, colored and dried them. It takes 45 days to finish the whole process. The designers meticulously drew the pandas' eyes in order to make them look nice and cute.
It's very special to see Chinese pandas appear in Bangkok, Thailand, said a Hong Kong tourist.
I'm getting soft, you know, as a father with children. Its the same feeling more or less pandas, you know, an animal that we all have to take care of, said a Danish tourist.
The tour show has been to the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and South Korea since 2008.
The Thailand tour show is expected to conclude on April 10. More on:

The cultural intention industry of Hong Kong
The cultural intention industry of Hong Kong, it is soft capability assets of a place, its value, and can reflect that can extend to life attitude and spiritual value aspect too on the intention products. The cultural intention industry of Hong Kong brings the persons who creates document of class one this year, show they are created by the intention document, life aesthetics spirit sent out. Because ideological reason and traditional idea make a lot of historical incidents have no idea intently, record and appear truly objectively. As time goes on, for example the public incident, which we know now, do you remember how many great public incidents there are last year? Was there a lot of in the year before last? . Will find a little forward and then that there are some impressions but clear. The media is pursuing the newest thing constantly, does not have responsibility to comb these, who at this time goes to comb? . Has the scholar combed? . The media, artist, research institution, does the political party specially comb the thing in the past from such a train of thought? Whether it seems. In terms of me, it is very necessary to go on and combing one by one these public incident for me to think. The incident one by one can research and develop and lengthen everybody's concern and introspection of the public incident just because of this, if be unable to draw the lesson without paying close attention to, can't watch out for tragic recurrence if reviewed, this is original intention of running industry's works of the intention. The reason why the way to choose such contemporary art of ours, because one's own innate artistic complex and influencing by family. As industry's behavioral artist of a intention, preferably speak with the works with one's own behavior, contemporary art is very positive, meaningful and strong. But the idea of contemporary art and subversion of expression way make us used to traditional thinking, the person used to the aesthetic and traditional idea of the tradition can not often understand, can not understand, and then will think slowly they of contemporary art are a gang of lunatics, think it is a gang of neuropathy. A lot of general Lou Volkswagen should not be understood, does not understand; so make contemporary art to lack the public praise in public spread as a result. A lot of contemporary arts actually have cultural and educational care, the concern of contemporary art very much; think that is possessed with possibility by traditional art. It must be more advanced than the thing that just attract the eyeball to initiate the works that think, why contemporary art is so important, I even think contemporary art is that a country, a nationality finally have a symbol of the prospective range pole meaning. So we will notice London, New York, Berlin, the contemporary artistic intention person in Tokyo. The contemporary artistic job is not that an old-type opera school majors in art, have never studied the artistic photography lesson too, and do so, with the significant historical building of Hong Kong, connect in the spot of the major event, the ones that considered fast development of the Chinese society initiates this decades recently, to present life, unable recognition of a lot of phenomena now. Have a lot of contradictions, much possibility in this fast development, but these ' quickly ' make us too late and digest, there won't be time to understand. By, tonyyuen99

China Unveils World’s Longest Sea Bridge
The world’s longest sea bridge has officially opened to traffic, connecting Hong Kong and Macau to the Chinese mainland. The 34-mile (55-kilometer) “Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge” features a range of unusual features, with The Guardian reporting “cameras to detect yawning, drivers forced to wear heart monitors and access restricted to the political elite and charity donors.”
Opened by Chinese president Xi Jinping, the $20billion bridge was constructed of 400,000 tonnes of steel, the equivalent of 60 Eiffel Towers. The bridge has been designed to withstand earthquakes and typhoons of up to 340 kilometers per hour.
Save this picture!
The span between Hong Kong, Macau, and the Chinese mainland is composed of three elements, with a main 30-kilometer span from the mainland landing on an artificial island. The land then linked to a sister island via a 7-kilometer-long, 44-meter-deep tunnel, which allows for shipping to continue.
The tunnel meets a further link bridge to Hong Kong via the International Airport and a border crossing, where cars switch from the right-hand side of the road (typical on the Chinese mainland) to the left-hand side (typical in Hong Kong) at a specifically-built “merge point.”
Save this picture!
As drivers cross the bridge, heart rate and blood pressure is monitored, with information sent to the bridge’s control center. As reported by The Guardian, if a driver yawns three or more times in 20 seconds, a “yawn cam” will the raise an alert.
The bridge is not just a mega transport infrastructure jointly built by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau. The collaboration between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in terms of trade, finance, logistics and tourism will be strengthened. Hong Kong will assume a more proactive role in the development of the Greater Bay Area.
-Frank Chan Fan, Secretary and Transport and Housing, Hong Kong
Although hailed as a feat of engineering, the bridge has not been without criticism. People from Hong Kong will require special permits to use the bridge, despite the project being part-funded by Hong Kong taxpayers, as reported by the South China Morning Post. Meanwhile, environmental groups such as the WWF have raised concerns over the bridge’s impact and potential harm to the critically rare Chinese white dolphin.
China also holds the record for the world's highest bridge, which was opened to traffic in the southwest of the country in 2016.
