September On Smoothrock - Remote Fishing In The Heart Of Wabakimi
In September of 2018 I visited Smoothrock Camp with my good friend Stephanie. Operated by Thunderhook Outfitters in Armstrong Station, Ontario, Smoothrock is one of the nicer remote camps I've ever fished..
Located within the boundaries of Wabakimi Wilderness Park and only accessible by float plane, it truly is a one of a kind place.
Everything from the quality of the facilities, the boats and motors, the friendliness of the staff and most importantly the fishing, was first rate!

I enjoy all aspects of the outdoors, be it hiking, biking, hunting, fishing or canoeing. Camping and survival are two skills I continually try and work on and stay ready and practiced in the event these lifesaving skills are required.
I have had many teachers in my life and appreciate all that they have taught me, and I try to do the same thing.
Amateur radio is also one of my hobbies and past time, and it as well has taught me lots and has helped me meet people around the world. Family is of course the most important aspect of my life and has brought me the most enjoyable memories in life.

Wabakimi Prov. Park 2008
10th summer family canoe trip. We drove to Armstrong (3 hrs. north of Thunder Bay) and stayed at Wild Waters Outfitters with Bert and Brenda. Caught the early train, $20 per canoe, got off at Harding Trail mile 44.1, Redhead Lake. Paddled through Scratchy, Snake, Jeanine, Dagger, Change, Brennan, and Granite. Took float plane back out. Portages rough due to many blow-downs from ice storm. Very remote - saw only 1 paddler in 5 days, beautiful. Few wild fires burning north of us.

Day 3 37kms Wabakimi Paddle Center of the Universe
Here on Day 3 we paddle 37kms to end the day. We run both swifts and rapids as well as travel on both the Berg and Ogoki Rivers.
A full day for sure. Once camp was established we had supper, reviewed maps and details of upcoming days and it was an early to bed evening.
I enjoy all aspects of the outdoors, be it hiking, biking, hunting, fishing or canoeing.

A walk through Ogoki Wilderness Lodge Day 4 27kms
On Day 4 of our paddle we stop at the abandoned Ogoki Wilderness Lodge. What you see is how the place was left. Factual information on this place is very hard to find on the internet. Some information can be found at the link below:
After our visit here we were off to Best Island and spent two whole days there. Need time to put video and pics together of Wendell's place, I also will have a separate video of our paddling.
Hope you enjoy the quick tour of the Lodge
