Glamping in Wadi Rum, Jordan ???????? and visiting the Film Location of The Martian | VLOG 14
Jordan offers one of the most beautiful desert sceneries on earth ???? - so it was out of the questions for us whether we will visit Wadi Rum or not. ????
From Aqaba our Glamping spot was only a short car drive away. Having arrived in the desert we were blown away by the huge rock massives! Our Bedouin camp was nicely embedded in those so we were well protected from the wind. ????
In Wadi Rum we spent our time riding camels ????, trying to spot as many stars as possible ⭐️(less light pollution ????), climbing sand dunes and even coming across a real film location! Right, the movie The Martian was filmed in Wadi Rum ????.
We enjoyed this beautiful place and can't recommend it enough for anyone who's into nature, desert or adventure ????

Petra - Exploring the Amazing Rock City of Jordan
Petra, also known as the Lost City or the Red Rock City, is an ancient Nabatean holy city, carved into the rocks in southern Jordan. It’s an amazing place to see in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Check out my Amman travel guide:
On Day 6 of our trip to Jordan, we woke up in the morning, had breakfast at our hotel, and continued on to the gates of Petra. The entrance ticket price of visiting Petra is 50 JD ($70.23), which is on the pricey side, but well worth it to visit this incredible city. Before going into the gates, I stopped on the outside and purchased a keffiyeh (4 JD ($5.62), the traditional Middle Eastern checkered cloth headdress. After that, I was ready to go and explore Petra!
When you see pictures of Petra, at least in my case, you can’t really tell how big it is, or the scale of it - it’s not just one building on tomb, but it’s an entire city, spread out through the red rocks of Petra, through canyons and valley and rock mountains. So it’s a huge site that can take a full day, or even many days (if you had the time) to explore. So rather than just going to see a single attractions, Petra is like walking into a historical amusement city, full of surprises, mountains to climb, and ancient tombs to explore. Just for a bit of history, Petra was built by the ancient Nabateans, likely somewhere around the 300 BC date range. The Nabateans were a nomadic Arabian tribe who were specialist in trade, especially across the Arabian desert. They would run camel caravans and trade to lands across the desert, and due to their incredible desert and sky skills, they could navigate the desert and not only survive, but thrive. They made a fortune trading frankincense and myrrh, and doing so, they made a fortune. Similar to the ancient Egyptians, when the Nabateans became very wealthy, they started to think more about their after-life, and so they decided to build tombs within the rocks of Petra. At first I was thinking that the sites of Petra were temples or houses, but the majority, especially the fancy ornate rock carving at Petra are all tombs. The city of Petra eventually became deserted, and it was hidden for about a thousand years, before being rediscovered by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812.
After entering the Rock City, you first walk through a slot canyon, which was the main roadway leading directly into the center of Petra. You can either walk, or they also have horse chariots if you want to ride. One of the most famous tombs at Petra is known as the The Treasury (Al Khazneh), which was named so because some people believed there was treasure hidden high in the rock above it. The Treasury, also a tomb, is one of the best preserved and most incredible things to see when you visit Petra. The tombs are carved directly out of the side of the red rock mountains, and what’s really interesting is that the Nabateans were influenced by many different civilizations, as one can tell from the construction. The Treasury has lots of Greek influence, along with Arab and local Middle Eastern details as well. We continued hiking, and visiting many more of the tombs around Petra. Another famous place to see in the city is The Monastery (Ad Deir), which requires a hike that took about 45 minutes. The Monastery looks remarkably similar to the Treasury, but it’s just three times the size. There are some incredible views, and from The Monastery, you can do some more small hikes to get some wonderful views of the rugged mountain rocks.
For dinner we headed to a restaurant in town called Al Qantarah - a nice restaurant housed in a rock building. Along with some fantastic fresh fish, that the owner of the restaurant had caught himself, we also had a main dish of lamb and rice cooked in a claypot. The lamb was amazingly tender and the rice was fragrant. Dinner was the best way to end an incredible day tour exploring the fascinating city of Petra.

One day jeep safari in Wadi Rum, Jordan
Wadi Rum desert is located on the south of Jordan. We spent in the desert only one day on our road from Petra to Aqaba. It was unforgettable! We took a jeep safari tour with a real Bedouin Aodehe.
The winter of 2015 was very cold in Jordan. One day earlier before our arrival it was snow in the desert. ( of course it was melted immediately). We were lucky and when we had the tour the sun was shining. But it was really cold. You can see how we dressed.
The landscapes of Wadi Rum are so amazing that a lot of movies that occur on Mars have been filmed there. The most famous of them is 'The Martian'.
In one day tour we coud see so many things: natural stone bridge, beautiful canyons, the source of Lawrence of Arabia and cosmic landscapes. But the most important thing is that we met a real Bedouin and saw a beautiful sunset in the desert!

Tours to Wadi Rum Jordan - Wadi Rum Trip - Petra Travel
Wadi Rum is a dramatic desert landscape with beautiful rock formations in Jordan's south. Visitors can enjoy a Jeep tour to astonishing rock bridges or enjoy silence and pure nature during a hike or on back of a camel. A wonderful experience is to spend a night under the starry sky in the wadi.
Wadi Rum is the largest wadi in Jordan, and has been inhabited by many human cultures since prehistoric times, including the Nabateans leaving their mark in the form of rock inscriptions and temples. Still several Bedouin tribes with a semi-nomadic lifestyle inhabit Rum. The village of Wadi Rum is the headquarter of the Desert Patrol.

Travel Tips for Trip to Jordan | #WhereisAJ
I love Jordan - I have been there a few times already and would be keen to go back anytime. Would you like to plan a trip to Jordan for yourself? These travel tips should help you - read here or tune in to the video.
Jordan has been rated as amongst the #100GreatJourneys on the planet by me. Click here ( to read more.
** Is Jordan safe to visit? **
The thought of going to certain parts of the Middle East may unsettle some, but it need not be a fear in Jordan. Despite being surrounded by Israel, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iraq and Syria, the country is very safe.
** How do you get a visa for Jordan? **
Jordan has made its visa regime very simple. You can get one on arrival - and it’s free if you are in a group. Your travel agent will arrange for it. To save time at the airport, you can always get the visa easily in advance from the Jordanian embassy or consulate in your country.
** How do you get to Jordan? **
Many airlines serve Jordan but you may not get a direct flight from your city or country unless Royal Jordanian flies to it. You could choose from many airlines including Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, British Airways, Turkish Airlines and many more.
** What are the accommodation options in Jordan? **
You can choose from many to suit your style and budget. Pick from budget to luxury hotels, spa resorts, hostels, desert camps - you have them all.
** How do you get around Jordan? **
The best way to see Jordan is by road. Hire a car with a guide (who usually doubles up as your driver) or just self drive with some maps - the landscape is a delight to navigate. You can stop wherever you like, take detours, say hello to strangers - it’s all simple and safe. And there is barely any traffic on the highways.
Of course, you can always rent a camel especially in the Wadi Rum.
** Suggested itinerary for 6 days in Jordan **
This is a suggested itinerary if you plan to be in Jordan for six days - the minimum time you should plan for. Of course, you can extend your stay at any of the locations.
DAY 0: LAND IN JORDAN
This is likely to be the day you land in the capital Amman, located on a hill between the desert and the fertile Jordan Valley. Go for a traditional Jordanian / Arabic meal in the evening.
DAY 1
Head to Jerash – one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. Drive to Ajlun Castle from there – an hour should be enough for the visit. Head back to Amman for an evening at The Citadel if not done the previous day.
DAY 2
Start the day with religious tourism in Madaba, Bethany and Mount Nebo. After a few hours there, head to Petra, truly one of the wonders of the planet. How the Nabataeans carved such a gigantic city out of rock faces confounds the mind. Go in for a night viewing too; it is open only on select days of the week. Walk the short market street of Petra town in the evening, and grab a bite in one of the many restaurants there.
DAY 3
Spend the full day in Petra, and also make a side trip to Little Petra – it is, as the name suggests, a smaller version of Petra and has its own charm.
DAY 4
Head to the Red Sea port city of Aqaba – for a day of water sports and snorkelling to get a closer look at corals. Spend the night here.
DAY 5
You could spend the morning out in the sea in Aqaba. And then drive to Wadi Rum for its maze of monolithic rockscapes rising upto 1,750 metres from the desert floor. T. E. Lawrence of Arabia and Sharif Faisal Bin Huessin based their headquarters in Wadi Rum during the Arab revolt against the Ottomans in World War I – those who have seen the film Lawrence of Arabia will know. Wadi Rum was in the news again recently – depicting the planet Mars in the film The Martian starring Matt Damon.
Wadi Rum is best enjoyed in the evening when the sun is setting – if you can, spend the night stargazing in one of the camps in the desert. Head to the Dead Sea if not staying overnight here.
DAY 6
Spend the last day of the trip floating lazily in the Dead Sea – the lowest spot on the planet. Pamper yourself in one of the many spas in hotels along the sea.
** What is the best time to visit Jordan? **
Summers can be harsh, but you can visit anytime between September to April. I have been to Jordan in the summers too - it is not as bad as you would expect it to be. Of course, winters may be the best time to go though.
** How much should you budget for a trip to Jordan? **
While Jordan is a destination for everyone, it may not be the ideal place for those on a typical backpacker budget. Plan it as a mid to high end destination.
** In a nutshell…..
1. Jordan is a great place to visit.
2. Make sure you go.
3. You can go anytime.
4. It’s a place for most budgets.
5. Great people - you will love them for their hospitality and warmth.
6. The food is to be savoured.
