Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Climbing, hiking and camping at Jebel Rum in Wadi Rum Jordan
We went on an overnight climb and camping trip in Jebel Rum, Wadi Rum Jordan. Hamd Hussein adds voice commentary to the video. He was also the climbing guide.
JORDAN | Amman / Petra / Wadi Rum / Dead Sea / Wadi Mujib
This is one of my best adventures, we met a lot of beautiful people and kind souls during the trip. The locals are always very keen to help and fun to be with.
Jordan is such a beautiful country to visit and it has more than just #Petra, #WadiRum & #DeadSea. We arrived in Jordan with no specific itinerary and at the end we decided to rent a car to travel around the country. We had lots of fun!
I booked 2 nights in Wadi Rum with Wadi Rum Camp & Tours ( the host Mohammed is an extremely cool and helpful guy. He was very punctual when he met us at the Wadi Rum village picking us up on his 4WD to his camp. The location of the camp is perfect, it's deep in the Wadi Rum protected desert and right in front of the campsite, you see a beautiful mountain, looks like the Ayer's Rock in Australia, and there's nothing around the campsite which is so great. I was feeling literally like in the middle of the desert. The camp is amazing, the room and beds are very clean and comfortable, you get hot water in the shared bathroom, there's a common area for you to mingle with other tourists and dining. The host set up campfire every night and play music, after the dinner and you get to gaze upon the sky with shinning stars. It's such a wonderful experience. I would have to say the dinner prepared by the host and the family are the best I have had in Jordan, the grilled chicken is so well-seasoned and cooked to perfection, so moist and fresh.
The next day, I joined a jeep tour to explore Wadi Rum desert. Our guide, Abdullah is such a fun person. He showed us the beautiful spots in the desert for pictures taking, he ensured we had enough time to enjoy and he took very great pictures for us. He went extra miles when he offered us the sunset viewing which was not originally included in the tour we book. I forgot my GoPro batteries and he was so nice to drive us back to the camp, so I could get them. One hour before sunset, he drove us to a sand dune, he set up a mat, sisha, prepared hot herbal tea and cookies for us. We were just sitting there enjoying the beautiful sunset in the desert, that's really a paradise, there were wild camels walking around us. What else can I ask for?
Wadi Mujib is definitely a hidden gem of Jordan, its location is just about 30 minutes away by car from the hotel areas in Dead Sea. This is the most fun activity and the best day of my entire trip, canyoning in Wadi Mujib. Not only the canyon is extremely breathtaking, the Siq Trail we did, beginning right after the Wadi Mujib Adventure Centre, is very well maintained and safe. The entrance ticket is JOD21. There are guides at some parts to help and guide you where you are required to climb up the rocks against the strong water current. They are there to ensure our safety. I enjoyed so much and I am so glad I included this place in my itinerary. The whole trail you will be walking in the water, meaning you will be all wet, and if you don't have a waterproof shoe, you can buy one at the adventure centre at only JOD5, then you can embark on an adventure of a lifetime, and not hurting your feet. Every corner you walk in the canyon is so beautiful and worthy of instagram pictures. At some part you will have to swim and slide. In about 2 hours you will reach the waterfall, that will be the end of the Siq Trail, you can spend some times admiring the nature beauty and stay warm in the water, yes, the water is quite warm when I was there during the month of May. The whole trail I was not exposed under the scorching hot sun and yet the water kept me warm. For more information and details kindly visit the website below:
I highly recommend JORDAN if you are looking for a trip combining historical ruins, nature and adventure. Get a car in Amman at an affordable price and start exploring this incredible country.

Horse Riding Holidays in Jordan - Ride Wadi Rum
Script from the film
From a tourism perspective, Jordan is a country best known for its world class cultural sites and stunning natural landscapes such as at Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea. What you might not realise is that you can enjoy all these things as part of our horse riding adventure.
I'm Lulu Perry and I run the horse riding department at Wild Frontiers, and in this video I'm going to explain a little bit more about our riding trip in Jordan.
The first couple of days are very much about seeing the cultural sights....the trip starts in Madaba where there will be chance to view the extraordinary 6th century map of Palestine before heading on to Mt Nebo, the place where Moses is believed to have seen the Promised Land just before he died. We'll then drive on down to Petra stopping en route at the Crusader Castle of Kerak.
The following day we have a full day in the rose red city of Petra.....a day on our feet but I can safely say worth every second, it's stunning! We take our time to walk down the Siq to the Treasury before wondering through this amazing city of colonnaded streets, past the royal tombs and towering monuments.
After lunch, and for those that are feeling brave enough to tackle the 800 odd steps, we head up to the Monastery, one of Petra's most awe-inspiring monument from where there are incredible views back across the city and the mountains behind.
We have a really fun evening in store, as we head to the kitchen to learn how to cook some of the most popular and traditional Jordanian dishes around. Watched over by the eagle-eyed professional chefs we'll don our aprons and take up our chopping knives to prepare tonight's feast which may include dishes like baba ghanoush, maglouba and hummus.
For us horse riders, this is where the adventure truly begins as we head to Wadi Rum to meet our horses and Bedouin guides to set out on our 5 day ride across the desert.
We'll wind our way through this extraordinary desert landscape, heading in the vague direction of Saudi Arabia, climbing over the rich red sand dunes, passing underneath the wind-battered cliffs of the towering mountains and canter across the desert flats. We'll drink sweet herb tea with local Bedouin as they wander through the desert grazing their camels. As the sun sets we'll head to the campfire and it won't be long before our Bedouin hosts are reaching for their lute and the singing starts or their reciting Arabic poems. We'll fall asleep under the star studded skies and be woken to the sounds of the horses tittering as the sun comes up.
At the end of our ride we head back to Amman for our final night, not before stopping off at the Dead Sea, to have a soak, or should I say, a float and enjoy the therapeutic qualities of the regions famous mud.
As anyone that enjoys riding, and these kind of riding holidays will know, there's nothing quite like travelling through remote regions on horseback. From the feeling of cantering across the vast deserts with the wind in your hair to camping beneath the stars, eating great food and being told colourful stories by your hosts -- our Ride Wadi Rum tour makes for the kind of experience you'll never forget. This trip has the perfect mix of culture and riding and one not to be missed!

Petra - Exploring the Amazing Rock City of Jordan
Petra, also known as the Lost City or the Red Rock City, is an ancient Nabatean holy city, carved into the rocks in southern Jordan. It’s an amazing place to see in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Check out my Amman travel guide:
On Day 6 of our trip to Jordan, we woke up in the morning, had breakfast at our hotel, and continued on to the gates of Petra. The entrance ticket price of visiting Petra is 50 JD ($70.23), which is on the pricey side, but well worth it to visit this incredible city. Before going into the gates, I stopped on the outside and purchased a keffiyeh (4 JD ($5.62), the traditional Middle Eastern checkered cloth headdress. After that, I was ready to go and explore Petra!
When you see pictures of Petra, at least in my case, you can’t really tell how big it is, or the scale of it - it’s not just one building on tomb, but it’s an entire city, spread out through the red rocks of Petra, through canyons and valley and rock mountains. So it’s a huge site that can take a full day, or even many days (if you had the time) to explore. So rather than just going to see a single attractions, Petra is like walking into a historical amusement city, full of surprises, mountains to climb, and ancient tombs to explore. Just for a bit of history, Petra was built by the ancient Nabateans, likely somewhere around the 300 BC date range. The Nabateans were a nomadic Arabian tribe who were specialist in trade, especially across the Arabian desert. They would run camel caravans and trade to lands across the desert, and due to their incredible desert and sky skills, they could navigate the desert and not only survive, but thrive. They made a fortune trading frankincense and myrrh, and doing so, they made a fortune. Similar to the ancient Egyptians, when the Nabateans became very wealthy, they started to think more about their after-life, and so they decided to build tombs within the rocks of Petra. At first I was thinking that the sites of Petra were temples or houses, but the majority, especially the fancy ornate rock carving at Petra are all tombs. The city of Petra eventually became deserted, and it was hidden for about a thousand years, before being rediscovered by Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812.
After entering the Rock City, you first walk through a slot canyon, which was the main roadway leading directly into the center of Petra. You can either walk, or they also have horse chariots if you want to ride. One of the most famous tombs at Petra is known as the The Treasury (Al Khazneh), which was named so because some people believed there was treasure hidden high in the rock above it. The Treasury, also a tomb, is one of the best preserved and most incredible things to see when you visit Petra. The tombs are carved directly out of the side of the red rock mountains, and what’s really interesting is that the Nabateans were influenced by many different civilizations, as one can tell from the construction. The Treasury has lots of Greek influence, along with Arab and local Middle Eastern details as well. We continued hiking, and visiting many more of the tombs around Petra. Another famous place to see in the city is The Monastery (Ad Deir), which requires a hike that took about 45 minutes. The Monastery looks remarkably similar to the Treasury, but it’s just three times the size. There are some incredible views, and from The Monastery, you can do some more small hikes to get some wonderful views of the rugged mountain rocks.
For dinner we headed to a restaurant in town called Al Qantarah - a nice restaurant housed in a rock building. Along with some fantastic fresh fish, that the owner of the restaurant had caught himself, we also had a main dish of lamb and rice cooked in a claypot. The lamb was amazingly tender and the rice was fragrant. Dinner was the best way to end an incredible day tour exploring the fascinating city of Petra.

Wadi Rum is a spectacularly scenic desert valley (wadi in Arabic - more specifically, a wadi is a dry river bed) in southern Jordan.
This area of Jordan is quite isolated and largely inhospitable to settled life. The only permanent inhabitants are several thousand Bedouin nomads and villagers. There is no real infrastructure, leaving the area quite unspoilt. Apart from the Bedouin goat hair tents, the only structures are a few concrete shops and houses and the fort headquarters of the Desert Patrol Corps.
T E Lawrence (of Arabia) spent a significant amount of time here during the course of the British-inspired Arab Revolt against the Ottoman Empire during the First World War (1914-1918).
Fans of the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia will be familiar with the landscape, which is not so much sand dunes as it is a mass of soaring cliffs and sandstone and granite mountains (jebel in Arabic).
See in Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Jordan
==========================
Lawrence's house: Nobody is certain that this was Lawrence's house, although there are stories that he both stayed and/or stored weapons here. The current structure is built upon the remains of a Nabataean building, however, and it's another beautiful spot in the desert. The house itself is bunch of rubble, though, and not very impressive.
Lawrence's Spring: Just 2km (1.2 miles) south-west of the village of Rum. The spring is at the top of a short scramble - head for the fig tree! Although the pool itself is largely unprepossessing, being a stagnant puddle, the views across the desert are truly spectacular.
The Nabataean Temple: Near the Rest House in Rum Village. The surrounding area is covered in Thamudic and Kufic rock art.
Shalalah Spring: Near the Nabatean Temple above. Not so impressive as Lawrence's Spring but can be seen at the same time as the Nabatean Temple in a walk from the village.
The Anfashieh Inscriptions: Not far from the red Sand Dune area this mountain has depictions of a camel caravan from the Nabatean and Thaumadic period.
Jebel Burdah (Big Rock Bridge/Arch): On many tours you only view this from a distance, but it is possible to climb up to this rock bridge if you have a guide and a reasonable level of fitness. Climbing takes 4-7 hours (depending on your experience), therefore it takes a whole day tour.
Jebel Umm Fruth (Middle Rock Bridge/Arch): A lower rock bridge which is featured on many tours and can be easily scrambled onto. The climbing takes 5-15 minutes (depending on your experience).
Red Sand Dunes (Umm Ishrin): There are various places in Wadi Rum where the white and red sands meet, but the most commonly visited is a dune sloping up alongside a jebel - a bit tough to climb up, great fun to run down! It can be difficult ascending those - use small steps. Usually, the spot is used for sand-boarding.
Seven Pillars of Wisdom: Although most people can only count five, this is an impressive rock formation near the Visitor's centre. It is named after T E Lawrence's book - not the other way around!
Khaz'ali Canyon (Siq al-Khazali): This narrow canyon contains numerous Nabataean rock carvings of people and animals.
Do in Wadi Rum, Aqaba, Jordan
=========================
The genuine attraction of Wadi Rum is the desert itself, best seen by four wheel drive, pick-up truck or on camel. Some visitors only spend a few hours in the Wadi, but it's definitely worth taking a guided trip of several days duration, staying overnight in Bedouin camps in the desert. Four wheel drives are less bumpy than the open-air pick-up trucks, but the latter have advantages when it comes to taking photos.
The quality 4-wheel-drive tour depends on a Bedouin driver who serves as a guide, but often does not have much knowledge and poor English. Therefore, picking up a guide at the gate is a hit and miss affair and many of the best guides rely mainly on advance bookings.
You can usually make advance bookings through your hotel, and this may be advisable given that some guides will not have good English. Many of the guides have websites, through which you can arrange your tour. Regardless, you should always make sure that you and your guide have a clear agreement on price and the itinerary and stops that are covered in the tour.
An overflight of the region in a balloon costs c. JOD150 (can reduce to JOD140 if contracted by the camp where you stay). The balloon sets off at 06:00, so you must be in place by 05:30-05:45. The flight takes about 30min to 2 hours, depending on the weather or the number of flight participants. Can be cancelled if bad weather occurs.
Bedouin Lamb Barbecue at Wadi Rum
Without doubt, Wadi Rum is one of the most beautiful deserts I’ve ever seen in my life. The landscapes are so other-worldly, that many movies that occur on Mars of the moon have been filmed there. Ond Day 7 of our trip to Jordan, we drove from Petra to Wadi Rum. We arrived just in time for lunch at Captain's Bedouin Desert Camp. It was a very rare cloudy and rainy day, and so we got some rain, and finally when it cleared we went on a desert safari in the back of a truck. The views were spectacular.
00:58 Drive from Petra to Wadi Rum - At the beginning of the day, we had breakfast at Movenpick and then started the drive, which only took a couple hours, to Wadi Rum. Along the way we stopped at a few rest stops to get some Arabic coffee, something I couldn’t resist.
2:04 Arriving to Wadi Rum - We arrived to Wadi Rum just in time for lunch and the first thing we did was check into Captain's Desert Camp, which is the Bedouin camp we stayed at for the night. As soon as we arrived we had lunch, and they served us a full spread of food including labneh and moutabel. The labneh in particular was very good. For our main dishes we had galayet with beef, a beef tomato stew, and also a dish called mfarakeh, which was scrambled eggs with potatoes. Lunch at Wadi Rum was delicious and after lunch, due to the rain, we took a short rest before heading out.
07:15 Wadi Rum tour - We hopped into the back of a truck, and started our Wadi Rum desert tour. The weather wasn’t the best, it was still kind of rainy, but at the same time that kind of added to make it a bit of an eerie environment. The view of Wadi Rum were spectacular, it truly is a unique and incredible desert to see in the world. We drove around and stopped at a number of different locations around the desert, taking in the scenery. After a two hour safari around Wadi Rum we returned to the camp.
11:15 Zarb Bedouin barbecue for dinner - For dinner we ate a dish called zarb, which is Bedouin style barbecue. Similar to other cultures, zarb is a variety of meat of vegetables that are cooked in an underground oven over charcoal. They first added a bed of hot coals to the underground oven, spread them out, then added in a shelf full of meat and vegetables. They covered it with a bunch of layers, and finally topped the oven with sand to keep in all the heat. It took about two hours to cook, and we came back for dinner to find soft and tender lamb, rice, and a variety of vegetables cooked in the zarb, that were all incredibly tender. Dinner in Wadi Rum was delicious, and I had some serious amounts of lamb!

Jordan Trip - Wadi Rum Things to Do in Jordan
The easiest way to discover the area is by a 4x4 Jeep tour, lasting from two to eight hours. Other options are camel and horse riding, trekking and climbing. You finde here Jabal Rum (1754 metres), the second highest peak, and close to the Saudi border Jabal Um Adaami with 1840 meters, the highest peak in Jordan. Popular are overnights in Bedouin styled tents, to get a glimpse of nomadic life and to spend anight under the outstanding desert sky in Wadi Rum or the neighbouring area Disi.

Tours to Wadi Rum Jordan - Wadi Rum Trip - Petra Travel
Wadi Rum is a dramatic desert landscape with beautiful rock formations in Jordan's south. Visitors can enjoy a Jeep tour to astonishing rock bridges or enjoy silence and pure nature during a hike or on back of a camel. A wonderful experience is to spend a night under the starry sky in the wadi.
Wadi Rum is the largest wadi in Jordan, and has been inhabited by many human cultures since prehistoric times, including the Nabateans leaving their mark in the form of rock inscriptions and temples. Still several Bedouin tribes with a semi-nomadic lifestyle inhabit Rum. The village of Wadi Rum is the headquarter of the Desert Patrol.
