Waimea Labyrinth & Vortex at North Hawai'i Community Hospital
Hawai'i Vortex Field Guide author Zach Royer walking the labyrinth at the North Hawaii Community Hospital.
This location has been known for centuries as Makahikilu, a well known meeting place of the ancient Hawaiians.
According to the book The Art of Business: In The Footsteps of Giants, former CEO of the hospital Patrick Linton is said to have claimed that the hospital was situated in the center of an energy vortex formed by the five majestic volcanoes: Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, Hualalai, Kohala, and Haleakala.
Native Hawaiians have many sacred myths about this energy vortex, believing that it links them with the heavens.

Honolulu Surf Film Festival 2017 Clyde Aikau's 'Eddie ' Story
Two unintended mistakes in the video. Ira Opper was mistakenly identified as Ira Popper. And Clyde's experience in the 2016 Eddie was mistakenly identified at 2017.
Closing night at the 10th Honolulu Surf Film Festival had a very exciting post film talk by Clyde Aikau. He brought photos and gave an animated play by play of his personal experience at the 2016 Quiksilver Eddie Aikau Big Wave Challenge at Waimea Bay. As we all know, this was likely the biggest rideable day that the Eddie has ever been contested.
You didn't have to be there to enjoy this talk. Here it is on video.
Thanks to the Doris Duke Theatre and theatre manager Taylour Chang and festival curator Sarah Fang for hosting this festival. Thanks to Anna Trent Moore for corralling all of the high profile surfers for this closing night panel discussion.
This video is only one part of that panel.

Hawaii Kauai Waimea Canyon-UHD 4K
The outlook and hikes offer rich scenery into Waimea Canyon on Kauai's West Side. Mark Twain called it The Grand Canyon of the Pacific, stretching 10 miles long, one mile wide and 3,000 feet deep. The Waimea Canyon Lookout provides panoramic views of crested buttes, rugged crags and deep valley gorges. The grand inland vistas go on for miles. The main road, Waimea Canyon Drive, leads you to a lower lookout point and the main Waimea Canyon Overlook, offering views of Kauai's dramatic interior. The road continues into the mountains and ends at Kokee State Park from there are also numerous trails for beginners and for seasoned hikers. We found this map is useful:
Kauai is home to thousands of wild chickens, who have few natural predators. Kauaʻi's chickens originated from the original Polynesian settlers, who brought them as a food source. They have since bred with European chickens that have gotten free from farms and cock-fighting breeders (you may see them everywhere)

Kauai Part 3
Kauaʻi's origins are volcanic, the island having been formed by the passage of the Pacific plate over the Hawaii hotspot. At approximately six million years old, it is the oldest of the main islands. The highest peak on this mountainous island is Kawaikini at 5,243 feet.
The second highest peak is Mount Waiʻaleʻale near the center of the island, 5,148 feet above sea level. One of the wettest spots on earth, with an annual average rainfall of 460 inches is located on the east side of Mount Waiʻaleʻale. The high annual rainfall has eroded deep valleys in the central mountains, carving out canyons with many scenic waterfalls. On the west side of the island, Waimea town is located at the mouth of the Waimea River, whose flow formed Waimea Canyon, one of the world's most scenic canyons, and which is part of Waimea Canyon State Park. At 3,000 feet deep, Waimea Canyon is often referred to as The Grand Canyon of the Pacific. Kokeo Point lies on the south side of the island. The Na Pali Coast is a center for recreation in a wild setting, including kayaking past the beaches, or hiking on the trail along the coastal cliffs.
