Waitangi Treaty House - Waitangi (Paihia), New Zealand
The home of British official James Busby at Waitangi, near Paihia, New Zealand was the site of some key events in the history of New Zealand. In 1835, Maori chiefs signed the Declaration of Independence of New Zealand, which positioned themselves as representatives of a New Zealand state.
In 1840 the Treaty of Waitangi was signed here. It is regarded as the founding document of New Zealand, and defined a number of rights for the native Maori. However, Maori and British interpretations of the treaty differed on some key issues. The Maori believed they continued to have the authority to manage their affairs, but the British believed that the treaty gave them sovereignty over New Zealand.
The house was built in the 1830s, making it one of the oldest in New Zealand. Today it is a museum and the site of the annual Waitangi Day national holiday celebration.

Waitangi Treaty Grounds in new-zealand
Occupying a headland draped in lawns and bush, this is NZ's most significant historic site. Here, on 6 February 1840, the first 43 Maori chiefs, after much discussion, signed the Treaty of Waitangi with the British Crown; eventually, over 500 chiefs would sign it.

New Zealand, Part 1, Auckland, Maori Waitangi Treaty Grounds & Concert, Bay of Islands
New Zealand offers a wide variety of interesting things to see and do, with very dramatic and stunning views throughout. My six Video Travelogue's, show both the North and South Islands and have been enhanced with a first class selection of music carefully selected to accompany the mood of each scene. Therefore for best overall experience use good speakers. While I hold no copyrights to the music bar one, should any composer object to their use, I would be happy to change it. I appreciate their consideration as they all offer a big difference to the overall enjoyment. Many thanks.
The first video (Part 1) was on a dull day unfortunately while in Auckland and again while on the cruise around the Bay of Islands at Cape Brett & Russell. However, the Waitangi Maori Treaty grounds are well worth a visit. The Treaty was signed by the British in 1840. While in Rotorua we watched the Maori greeting and concert which you can also see excerpts from. Your comments are most welcome and I hope you will watch all the videos. Gerald Kidd.
