Wakefield Jazz ~ Tony Kofi Quartet pays homage to Ornette Coleman
This idea is timely 18 months after OC's death and apporpriate by these passionate musicians. This shuffle gave plenty of opportunities for great, authentic music, fun and superb playing. Larry Bartley plays a groove, Rod Youngs sets the rhythm on palmas Byron Wallen joins in tapping a mute then Tony Kofi plays rhythmic alto while snapping his fingers. A muted trumpet solo and virtuosic alto solo follow.

Live from Wakefield Jazz
The trio of James Maddren (drums), Ross Stanley (Hammond organ), and the mighty Seamus Blake from New York (tenor sax) had a quiet moment during their historic gig for Wakefield Jazz. God only knows. Thanks to Arts Council England, NorVol Jazz and particularly Apollo Jazz (Kim Macari) for supporting or arranging this Orpheus Project tour.

Newest Clark Tracey Quintet at Wakefield Jazz
Clark's latest collection of most promising newcomers.
Since losing his father late last year Clark now inherits the mantle of a great British Jazz legacy.
As a leader of his own bands, he continues the Art Blakey tradition of bringing together groups of outstanding young musicians to play accessible, exciting post-bop jazz, including some of his tunes and standards. He encourages the members to write for the band too.
This band contains the cream of the recent output of UK conservatoires. In the same way that Art Blakey constructed various editions of the Jazz Messengers Clark is now reconstructing his quintet to give the new generation of musicians a high profile opportunity to perform widely in a wholly professional context.

Jeff Williams Outlier Quartet from Wakefield Jazz on 14 October 2016
A piano-free quartet with super star John O'Gallagher (alto) from New York joined by young turk Josh Arcoleo (tenor) from the UK. Ex-pat American Jeff Williams leads from the drums and Sam Lasserson completes the group from the bass. Spare themes bulked out by extraordinary improvisation over disguised rhythms.
