The tale of our annual outing. Now in it's 16th year. What a great time with some great friends. And a special thanks to Big Sexy Bill Rogers for singing and strumming the guitar for us.

Fly Fishing Wakeley Lake

Wow...what a special lake Michigan has in little Wakeley Lake. This is one to put on your bucket list if you are a fly guy and love to catch fish on a streamer as on the day, in my three hours or so on the water, I was able to land a good number of nice, hefty bass and about 8 torpedoes (pike) and all on the fly. One of the most special things about the lake is that it takes work to get there...a half mile portage down a trail is your starting point and then you can't use live bait...oh, and all catch and release. If this sounds like a great time to you then by all means make your way, and bring along your kayak, canoe or float tube....and get ready for a great time. Fly guys should also plan on using 20-30 pound shock tippet so that the toothy critters don't steal your best fly (it happened once to me even with the big stuff). This is one of those rare gems where it is more about the journey than on most other lakes. Loons and other critters abound and for sure you will greatly enjoy yourself....best of luck to you. Marathon Spotlight: Jon Schultz, Hanson Hills Amateur Radio Association of Grayling, Michigan

Amateur (HAM) Radio Operators provide essential communications support across half the State of Michigan for the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. Jon Schultz has been part of that effort for many years, more recently as the communications link for Larry Roberts, The Voice of the Marathon, through-out the flag to flag coverage of the race.

The AuSable River Canoe Marathon is One of the Epic Endurance Sport Competitions on Earth! More than 50,000 fans cheer on teams competing in one of North America's toughest & richest canoe races - 120 miles & over 50,000 paddle strokes non-stop overnight on the AuSable River from Grayling to Oscoda, Michigan.

We took a trip from Burtons Landing to Stephan Bridge, east of Grayling Michigan on the Ausable River today. It was a great day to get out. This is long but I didn't feel much like editing it. Fast forward through it but there is some nice scenery :D

Hanson Hills Challenge - 1st Place (XC Race) - 2019

Cat 2 (Sport) XC Race at Hanson Hills Rec in Grayling, MI on June 2, 2019. This was my second race of the 2019 season and Race #3 (of 10 total) in the Championship Point Series (CPS). I finished 1st in my age category 40-44 and 8:32 ahead of 2nd place. This was my second 1st place in a row and a great start to the race series.
