VLOG: Walking around Sakamoto (Shiga) | Close to Kyoto, historic, beautiful, no crowds of tourists!
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share with you a little hidden gem in my part of town. The temple town Sakamoto is really close to Kyoto (it's in Shiga, the next city over), absolutely stunning, and there are no tourists, at least not while I was there. I love how all the buildings look frozen in time, just as they had been built decades, maybe centuries ago.
This is the real deal if you want to see how Japanese people live and what traditional architecture looks like. You won't see this in big Japanese cities! The town is also famed for its excellent stonework. Everywhere you turn you see walls built with just stones, no fillers or cement. Quite impressive actually.
I'm really glad we came here on a whim. I will definitely be coming back when more of the shops are open. I want to have soba here sometime which the town is also known for. Looking forward to exploring more places around Shiga with you.
