Walhalla Goldfields Railway 11/4/19
A hidden gem in Eastern Victoria, the Walhalla Goldfields Railway is the subject of this video.
The railway is a 2 foot, 6 inch narrow gauge line that runs between Walhalla and Thomson, but originally connected all the way to Moe itself. It is a beautiful place and a great trip, I would highly recommend visiting.
If you would like more information of the railway, and to find out ticket prices and timetables, you can check that here
In this video you will see Fowler loco No.14 'Spirit of Yallourn' on it's journey between Walhalla and Thomson. This includes crossing the Thomson River, onboard footage of the trip between the two stations and the shunting operation that occurs at Thomson. I hope you enjoy the video :)

Went for a ride on the Walhalla Goldfields Railway on a lovely Winters Day. I used a waterproof case for the camera, so the audio is a little patchy in parts, apologies. The ride is about 20 minutes each way and is a very scenic journey. I would recommend for anyone who hasn't been.

Walhalla Goldfields Railway part I
While traveling through eastern Australia in December 2016, we visited the Walhalla Goldfields Railway, a 30 inch gauge railway running from the old gold mining town of Walhalla to a nearby station stop. The line is very scenic and contains many sharp curves and steep grades, despite the fact that they don't have any steam power as of yet.

Walhalla is nestled in the foothills of Gippsland Australia. Once a prosperous colonial-era mining town, now set up for tourist day trips. Walhalla started winding down as a mining town in the early 1900's, today it relies on day trippers who come see its attractions. Attractions such as mine tours, steam railway, trips, and stay at the Star Hotel.
Walhall is picture perfect.

Australia Road Trip Series | A Visit to Walhalla, Gippsland - Victoria, Australia
Experience life as it was in historic Walhalla. Once one of Australia's richest towns and home to over 4,000 gold seekers at its peak, this sleepy mountainside town is now frozen in time and is now home to only 20 residents.
Walk through the lovingly restored centre full of heritage buildings, try your hand at panning for gold, or take a tour of the surrounding area.
Revel in the history that followed the discovery of Cohen's Reef, a three-kilometre vein of gold running through Walhalla. Ths town still boasts the Walhalla Goldfields Railway which you can ride as you enjoy the vibrant autumn trees, the beautiful Stringers Creek Gorge and colourful spring wildflowers. Or, for something a little spookier, take a ghost tour at the old cemetery on the hill.

Walhalla Goldfields Railway 2014
On Saturday 25/1/14 my wife and I went up to Walhalla for the day.
Walhalla is an old gold mine town dating back to the 1800's..
While we were there we went for a ride on the W.G.R. ( Walhalla Goldfields railway ) and I was able to get a cab ride.
Quick History of the railway..
A Railway to Walhalla was first proposed in 1883.
Construction of the Moe-Walhalla line started in 1904.
Completed in 1910, it was used mainly 2nd hand materials .
The railway was officially opened by the (then) Premier of Victoria , John Murray on 3 May,1910.
During the first few years of operation, the railway carried good volumes of freight and passengers.
The closure of the main mines in Walhalla in 1914 lead to a rapid fall in population in the township.
Revenues, passengers and freight continued to decline during the 1920's &1930's and eventually the line was reduced to a once a week service.
The Walhalla to Platina section of the line closed in 1944, the final Erica to Moe section closed in 1954.
The rails were pulled up,the track bed reverted to the bush to become totally overgrown and impassable.
The Walhalla Goldfields Railway started rebuilding in 1994 & reopened to Walhalla on 15 March 2002.
In May 2002, just two months after the Walhalla Goldfields Railway was completed into Walhalla a large rock fall on the only sealed road into Walhalla cut off the township for 10 days.
The newly opened railway was pressed into service carrying passengers and goods for the town.
W.G.R is run by Volunteers now..
Also I have added some photos of just a couple of buildings and structures of Walhalla..
