Walks in England: Exploring the Audlem Locks in Cheshire
Audlem is famous for its run of 15 locks on the Shropshire Union Canal. With its canalside pubs and attractive towpath, the walk alongside the locks is one of the finest in lowland England.
Harriet, Lola and I explore the locks from the tow path and give a potted history, including the cheese boat that used to journey on the canal every Saturday in the heyday!

The National Memorial Arboretum is a British site of national remembrance at Alrewas, near Lichfield, Staffordshire. Its objective is to honour the fallen, recognise service and sacrifice, and foster pride in the British Armed Forces and civilian community.
In 2017, after undergoing a large scale regeneration project, the Arboretum's new award-winning Remembrance Centre was officially opened by the Duke of Cambridge on 23 March. Featuring three new exhibition galleries, larger restaurant and shop, separate coffee shop and a beautiful cloistered courtyard with garden, it provides visitors with facilities fitting that of a large scale visitor attraction.
In 2018 the National Memorial Arboretum was awarded Gold Large Visitor Attraction of the Year in VisitEngland's Awards for Excellence, as well as Coach Friendly Attraction of the Year in the British Coach Tourism Awards.
The idea for the Arboretum was conceived by Commander David Childs CBE in 1988, who wished to establish a national focus or 'centre' for Remembrance. Following a meeting with Group Captain Leonard Cheshire VC, an appeal was launched in 1994 by the then Prime Minister, John Major. He believed that the Arboretum would form a living tribute to service men and women for future generations to reflect upon and enjoy.
The future of the project became assured when three proposals were agreed. These were: for the site to be the location of the Armed Forces Memorial; for the Ministry of Defence to pay a significant grant-in-aid to allow for free entry and that The Royal British Legion would accept the gift of the site as the focus for the Nation's year-round Remembrance.
The project began with no money, no land, no staff and no trees. The National Lottery, in the form of the Millennium Commission, granted some forty per cent of the funds needed and this was matched by thousands of donations, both large and small, from a wide variety of organisations both military and civilian, men and women, corporate and voluntary.
Planting began on the reclaimed gravel workings, bordered by the Rivers Trent and Tame, gifted to the charity by Lafarge in 1997. The initial planting took place thanks to grants from the Forestry Commission and the National Forest, and since then has been shaped by a staff of thousands: a small paid group; a dedicated and active Friends of the National Memorial Arboretum organisation; and countless others who have either planted individual trees or helped create a memorial for their organisation.
The Arboretum was officially opened on 16 May 2001. It is a registered charity and is part of The Royal British Legion family of charities.
The Arboretum contains 30,000 trees, with more being added each year. There are more than 350 memorials for the armed forces, civilian organisations and voluntary bodies who have played a part in serving the country; and even HMS Amethyst's cat Simon.
At the heart of the Arboretum is the Armed Forces Memorial, which is a tribute to over 16,000 service personnel who have lost their lives in conflict or as a result of terrorism since the end of the Second World War. At 11 am on 11 November each year the sun shines through two slits in the outer and inner walls of the memorial, casting a shaft of light across a wreath in the centre. The Armed Forces Memorial was dedicated in October 2007 by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the presence of the Queen.
Other areas of the site include an RAF 'wing', Naval review and Army parade. Civilian areas include 'The Beat' which contains memorials and dedications to police forces from around the UK and commonwealth.
Within the Arboretum is the Millennium Chapel of Peace and Forgiveness where, at 11 am each day, an act of remembrance takes place. Following the two minutes silence, accompanied by the Last Post and Reveille, there is an introductory talk about the arboretum.
Daily Activities on site include guided walks, buggy tours, Land Train rides and free talks, as well as the Daily Act of Remembrance.
Most of these activities are conducted by a team of over 260 volunteers, who collectively dedicate more than 52,000 hours of their time per year to the Arboretum. In 2010, the Volunteers of the National Memorial Arboretum were awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

Dawn Ward, 45, is UNRECOGNISABLE as she shuns her trademark glamour in favour of harsh beauty look
Dawn Ward, 45, is UNRECOGNISABLE as she shuns her trademark glamour in favour of harsh beauty look
She's usually pouting up a storm, sporting a perfectly coiffed blow-dry, a bronzed contour, glowing skin and fluttering false eyelashes.
But Dawn Ward looked shockingly different as she ditched her usual glamour in favour of an icy make-up look and wet-look locks on Saturday, to model in a catwalk show at LFWM AW19.
The Real Housewives Of Cheshire star, 45, underwent the drastic makeover for an appearance on the designer runway during the Art School show held at the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane, London.
The reality star strutted her stuff on the catwalk for designers Eden Loweth and Tom Barrett as they promoted their Vol 2 An Ode to the Art School Community and Transgender Women.
For Dawn's transformation, her usually glossy locks were styled into a wet-look chignon bun at the back of her head, with dishevelled strands of hair left to fall unkempt over her face.
The RHOC star's picture-perfect smile was transformed as she sported a mud brown lipstick, with lip-liner messily suffusing across the edges of her mouth.
Her foundation appeared to be purposefully patchy and uneven - a far cry from her normally flawless base.
Dawn's full and fluffy brows were still visible, but an unusually harsh white eye-shadow drew attention to her spider-like lashes, which had been heavily coated with white mascara.
Not one to shy away from eye-catching ensembles, Dawn rocked a metallic gold skirt suit as she sauntered down the runway.
The pencil skirt clung to her curves, whilst the coordinating long-sleeved jacket featured a a wrap around belt to cinch in her waist.
The reality star kept the dazzling ensemble buttoned up to the collar, and slowly strutted along the catwalk in skyscraper heels.
After her LFWM appearance, Dawn took her Instagram Stories to share a videos of herself on the catwalk.
She captioned her entrance walk: 'It's been an absolute honour to walk for @artschool_london for @londonfashionweek. Thank you for this incredible opportunity.'
Dawn wrote on the next video: 'So much talent and creativity with @artschool_london @londonfashionweek Loved every moment.'
She captioned another: 'Supporting @artschool_london and raising awareness of the #LGBT community.'
After the runway show, the Real Housewives star kept her startling make-up on as she headed to a restaurant for lunch.
Whilst sat inside, Dawn revealed on Instagram that she hadn't eaten anything, despite her 5.30am start, and was too hungry to wait until she'd taken her make-up off to go for food.
With her hair taken out of her chignon and left to hang down in bedraggled waves, she explained the situation to the camera.
Dawn said: 'So a tad embarrassing: I'm in a restaurant and everybody thinks that I actually come out like this.
But, I'm that hungry because we had to leave the hotel at 5.30 this morning. I've not eaten. I really don't care what people think!
'And guess what, I've not been asked for one selfie,' she added.
Dawn has four daughters (Darby, Taylor, Charlie and Aston) who she shares with her footballer husband Ashley.
All five of her family members were at the fashion show to support Dawn on her catwalk appearance.
Taylor Ward took to Instagram to share videos of her mother strutting up and down the runway, one of which she captioned: 'OMG does anyone know this woman???!!!
The Real Housewives of Cheshire star has always been a supporter of the LGBT+ community, and in April threw a flamboyant Gay Pride party at her Warford Hall home.
The fabulous and flamboyant festival was filmed for the finale episode of the seventh series of the Real Housewives on ITVBe.
She told Manchester Evening News at the time: 'Everyone knows I love my gay friends. I've got 15 close friends and 13 of them are gay, so it's important for me that I show them all on camera.
'There's going to be lots of them in this series. I've filmed a lot with Nick and Royston, I feel so confident and secure around them.'
Christmas Tree at Bramall Hall
Christmas Tree at Bramall Hall, Bramhall Park, Stockport, Cheshire, UK (December).
Check out this channel too:
Bramall Hall is a Tudor manor house in Bramhall, within the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England.
It is a timber-framed building, the oldest parts of which date from the 14th century, with later additions from the 16th and 19th centuries. The house, which functions as a museum, and its 70 acres (28 ha) of landscaped parkland with lakes, woodland, and gardens are open to the public.
Dating back to Anglo-Saxon England, the manor of Bramall was first described in the Domesday Book in 1086, when it was held by the Masseys. From the late 14th century it was owned by the Davenports who built the present house, and remained lords of the manor for about 500 years before selling the estate of nearly 2,000 acres in 1877 to the Manchester Freeholders' Company, a property company formed expressly for the purpose of exploiting the estate's potential for residential building development.
The Hall and a residual park of over 50 acres was sold on by the Freeholders (though not the lordship of the manor) to the Nevill family of successful industrialists. In 1925 it was purchased by John Henry Davies, and then, in 1935, acquired by the local government authority for the area - Hazel Grove and Bramhall Urban District Council. Bramall Hall is owned now, following local government reorganisation in 1974, by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council (SMBC), which describes it as the most prestigious and historically significant building in the Conservation Area.
