Must-Visit Places on Norfolk Island (Ep2) - Hundred Acres Reserve
Hundred Acres Reserve on Norfolk Island is a beautiful and peaceful park for bush walking. You can see lots of birds and plants inside the park. There are lots of ghost birds (Mutton bird) nests in the bush next to the track near the ocean. They are cute!
A mutiny, psychopath and mass murder – investigating 388-year-old cold case | 60 Minutes Australia
As far as gripping, real-life crime thrillers go, this one has everything. A mutiny, a psychopath and a brutal mass murder. It’s a 388-year-old cold case mystery that dates back to 1629 when the Dutch sailing ship, Batavia, struck a tiny atoll off the West Australian coast near Geraldton. Almost 300 passengers and crew survived the shipwreck but over the next few months, as they waited to be rescued, more than 100 were slaughtered. For centuries their bodies lay buried, the story forgotten. But now the search for the truth about Australia’s greatest mass murder is underway as archaeologists from Australia and the Netherlands dig up new clues – and victims.

A Week in Norfolk Island
We spent a week in Norfolk Island in August 2016, and here are some of the photos I took.
Norfolk Island is a great place to go and relax and do nothing, or do as much as you like. There is great snorkeling, walks, golden sand beaches, bird life, friendly people and more. There is some interesting history here.

Commonwealth of Australia | Moreton Bay
From True Patriots All , by Geoffrey C. Ingleton, who notes that the ballad is very old and possibly was contemporary with Logan's death. The manuscript was obtained in Queensland by J.R.Scott in 1916. Simon McDonald from Creswick in Victoria sings a variant of these words to a related tune, see 'Moreton Bay 2' in this collection. Patrick Logan became Commandant of the Moreton Bay penal settlement in 1826. He was hated by the convicts for his harsh methods. He did some exploring and was surveying the Upper Brisbane river when he was killed by Aborigines in 1830. Logan was a relentless flogger as shown in a sample record of his floggings that were noted in the diary of one of the prison clerks. This records that from February to October in 1828 Logan ordered 200 floggings with over 11,000 lashes. When Logan's body was brought back to Moreton Bay, the convicts manifested insane joy at the news of his murder, and sang and hoorayed all night, in defiance of the warders. Bushranger Ned Kelly used lines from the ballad in his Jerilderie Letter in 1879 (Port McQuarrie Toweringabbie Norfolk island and Emu plains and in those places of tyranny and condemnation many a blooming Irish man rather than subdue to the Saxon yoke were flogged to death and bravely died in servile chains.) In 1911, Bushranger Jack Bradshaw printed a version in his True History of the Australian Bushrangers . Bradshaw printed the song again in Twenty Years of Prison Life in the Gaols of NSW attributing it to poor old Frank McNamara. Francis MacNamara (Frank the Poet) recited it as he stepped off his convict ship in 1832 at Sydney Cove. MacNamara was subjected to all the brutality of the convict system in Australia, and was to spend years in various penal settlements. He served time in Port Arthur in Van Diemen's Land concurrently with John Kelly, Ned Kelly's father. No doubt it was there that Kelly learnt MacNamara's 'The Convict's Arrival' or 'The Convict's Lament on the Death of Captain Logan' which we now know as 'Moreton Bay'. Francis MacNamara wrote many fine poems including 'The Convict's Tour of Hell', 'The Cyprus Brig' and one of the many versions of 'The Wild Colonial Boy'.
Lyrics:
One Sunday morning as I went walking
By Brisbane waters I chanced to stray
I heard a convict his fate bewailing
As on the sunny river bank I lay
I am a native from Erin's island
But banished now from my native shore
They stole me from my aged parents
And from the maiden I do adore
I've been a prisoner at Port Macquarie
At Norfolk Island and Emu Plains
At Castle Hill and at cursed Toongabbie
At all these settlements I've been in chains
But of all places of condemnation
And penal stations in New South Wales
To Moreton Bay I have found no equal
Excessive tyranny each day prevails
For three long years I was beastly treated
And heavy irons on my legs I wore
My back from flogging was lacerated
And oft times painted with my crimson gore
And many a man from downright starvation
Lies mouldering now underneath the clay
And Captain Logan he had us mangled
All at the triangles of Moreton Bay
Like the Egyptians and ancient Hebrews
We were oppressed under Logan's yoke
Till a native black lying there in ambush
Did deal this tyrant his mortal stroke
My fellow prisoners be exhilarated
That all such monsters such a death may find
And when from bondage we are liberated
Our former sufferings will fade from mind

My channel is normally for my flying videos but had to put up this video taken with the GoPro HD Hero Camera which was mounted in a waterproof housing on a wrist strap. It is the first underwater video I have taken and I was very pleased with the camera's performance even though I was a bit nervous the first time I put it under the water.
The video was taken on beautiful Norfolk Island while snorkelling between Emily Bay and Slaughter Bay. It was taken over several days and initially the water was a bit cloudy but improved in clarity and the number of fish as each day passed. The bays are protected from the ocean by a reef and this makes for great viewing at low tide.

9 Recent Sightings of Cryptids
From recent mermaid sightings, to the amazing claim about new lizard man photos, these are 9 RECENT Sightings of Cryptids!
6.
Mermaids are known as mythical creatures that are half-woman, half-fish. The male equivalent is called a merman. A man named Paul Jones was taking a walk along a beach in Norfolk in the UK … and claims to have found a mermaid washed up there on the shore. But this one appeared to be out of her element, having left her warm tropical environment for the chilly waters of the North Sea. She also appeared to be quite dead. Images appear to show the decaying body of a human-like creature with a fish tail.
5.
Yeti Sighting -- 2016 seems to have been a busy year for Bigfoot. We told you about the cryptid’s purported photobombing in Michigan … Well, a few weeks before that, the creature was allegedly spotted in Wales. Although to be fair, the man who encountered the beast described it as a Yeti. Jason Parsons, a Bigfoot enthusiast, says he had a close encounter with a gorilla-like creature in the woods of near Caerphilly Mountain in Wales. Mr Parsons shot video, from which you can see an image here. Like so many other images of the cryptid, it’s difficult to discern any real details without using your imagination.
4.
Kraken Released? -- This is one of those cryptids that really needs no introduction. The legendary sea monster was said to inhabit waters off the coasts of Norway and Greenland … and the earliest mentions of the creature can be found old Icelandic sagas of the late 13th century. Now some conspiracy theorists claim the monster has actually been located using Google Earth, using a particular set of coordinates (63° 2'56.73S 60°57'32.38W). The sea monster is said to have been swimming near the coast of Deception Island near Antarctica … and appears to be 100 feet from head to end. Other theories suggest it could be a long lost plesiosaur … or even a UFO! But our friends over at Snopes.com say the creature is actually a rock formation known as ‘Sail Rock’ … a small volcano located around the southwest part of Decpetion Island and located at the same coordinates. You can see in this picture that the rock does resemble a ship’s sail. What do you think … Is the rock a Kraken … or the other way around?
3.
Cleveland Ohio was the location for some UFO sightings. Some mysterious footage was shot and a series of photos captured the craft as it moved silently through the skies. Multiple witnesses say that prior to the craft’s appearance, the skies had been sunny … but after the object appeared, ‘strange, swirling dark clouds appeared out of nowhere.’ In the pictures, you can see the black object appears to have the familiar disc-shape of so many UFOs … and witnesses claim this one was spinning above them, appeared to be solid, and had circuitry on its top. UFO enthusiasts seem convinced this is the real thing. Do you think it’s a hoax .. or could it be a case for the X-Files?
2.
Wow, this Bigfoot, here he is again … Whatever it is, the creature must rack up a lot of frequent flyer miles. We told you about sightings of the cryptid in Michigan, and in Wales -- although that creature could have been a Yeti. Now we have world that Bigfoot may have been spotted on Mars … or his skull, anyway. Alien hunters claim to see a giant alien skull in images originally captured by NASA’s Curiosity Rover, which has been rolling about the Red Planet since 2012. These alien hunters, known as Paranormal Crucible, claim the skull was obviously alien in nature … and speculate that it might represent the remains of a sasquatch … or even a bizarre alien creature. Admittedly, this one is a reach … but it is a way we help you discover nature and all of its mysteries …even if they show up on Mars!
1.
Lizard Man -- This cryptid is said to be a reptilian creature standing 7 feet tall and lives in the Scape Ore Swamp, near the farming town of Bishopville, in South Carolina. The swamp monster was first spotted almost 30 years ago. In 1988, a teenager claimed he was charged by a tall, scaly monster that clawed his car. The teenager madener a rough sketch of the monster and a plaster cast of the creature’s footprint was taken that year as well.
In 2015 the Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp made another appearance. A photo taken by a woman on her cell phone shows a bizarre looking creature that she swears is the Lizard Man: It’s an impressively muscled creature walking upright, with clawed toes and clawed fingers. The lavender-colored critter also has a long kangaroo-like tail, red eyes and a snub-nosed face. We thought it looked like Barney the Dinosaur on steroids.
