Walk the Wild Side
Starting at the village of Ahousaht, the Wild Side Trail takes hikers 22 km around Flores Island, located in Clayoquot Sound on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
Hiking The Wildside Trail | Flores Island, BC
Our 3 day, 2 night hike on The Wildside Trail. Approximately 11km (22 km total) of hiking, about half Rainforest, half beach depending on the tides.
The trail is located on Flores Island, just off the coast of Vancouver Island, near Tofino, British Columbia.

Hiking the Wild Side Trail on Flores Island
Four days hiking the Wild Side Trail on Flores Island in Clayoquot Sound a 30 minute boat ride north of Tofino. One of my favourite coastal hikes on Vancouver Island.
Residing within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Clayoquot Sound, Flores holds one of the largest tracts of contiguous old-growth forest on Vancouver Island. 41 km² of the island has been demarcated as the Flores Island Marine Provincial Park, 1.43 km² is the Gibson Marine Provincial Park where hot springs are located at the southern banks of the Matilda Inlet the Marktosis reservation is 1.2 km² and the rest is Crown Land.
Walk the Wild Side
Heaven on Earth, claimed one lucky visitor to the Wild Side this summer. Located near the Western-most point of Canada, the Wild Side trial is a heritage of the Nuu-chah-nulth people who live in Ahousat, a reserve on Flores Island, just west of Vancouver island. The trail journey's from the reserve to Cow Bay where the sun sets into the Pacific Ocean and eagles, wolves, bears, and whales present themselves to the patient eye.
I was fortunate enough to hike this trail this past July and document my journey during my internship as videographer for Ecotrust Canada, who is helping finance the renovation of the trial. This video is my attempt to capture the unspeakable beauty of one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Wild Side Trail Restoration
The community of Ahousaht restores the Wild Side Trail, a 22 km trail that takes hikers through forest, along pristine beaches, and up Flores Mountain. Ahousaht is located on Flores Island in Clayoquot Sound, on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Support for the project was generously provided by BC Parks, the BC Conservation Corps, the BC Transmission Corporation, and the Donner Canadian Foundation. Please visit weavingrelationships.org for more information.
One of the most beautiful hikes - Lone Cone Trail On Vancouver Island.
Hiking the Lone Cone Trail on Meares Island which is located off Tofino on Vancouver Island. One needs to take a water taxi from Tofino to reach the mountain island. The trail starts flat but gets pretty steep with a sudden 700 meter elevation in a couple of kms. The total kms is 7. But the view from the top at worth it & so is flora of large & aged red wood trees.

Wild Side Trail beer 3
Vancouver Island, Canada
Woedi... tees is eentje veur au maat!! ;-)
Hesquiat Peninsula Provincial Park Hiking Trip 2017
The Hesquiat Peninsula is a peninsula on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, located northwest of the town of Tofino and Clayoquot Sound and Nootka Sound to the northwest. It marks the division between the two regions formed by those sounds and is named for the Hesquiaht people of the Nuu-chah-nulth, and is the location of Hesquiat Peninsula Provincial Park. The Estevan Point lighthouse is at the apex of the peninsula.
The Hesquiat Peninsula is one of the quietest of the Vancouver Island coastal trails, seeing way less visitors than the West Coast or Nootka trails, yet it also has the fewest difficult sections. It is about 50 km long, most of it along the seashore. The trail features great rock ledges, some boulder hopping, and lots of sandy beaches.
Perhaps because it requires both a flight in and a flight (or boat ride) out to access, this keeps the numbers down, but whatever the reason those looking for a greater wilderness experience should seriously consider this trail. Less people also means more wildlife so those hoping to encounter wolf or bear might keep this in mind.

Tofino, Vancouver Island Travel Video CINEMATIC
See the best outdoor adventure spots in Tofino, BC and the surrounding area. We hiked Old Baldy Mountain on the road to Tofino and then did a remote kayak trip to a deserted island, explored the many beaches of Uclulet and Tofino, and then finished our trip at the top of the mountain overlooking the famous surf spot of Cox Bay.
Tofino is a small surf town on the far west side of Vancouver Island. It is about a 4-5 hour drive from Victoria, BC so make sure to prepare for the journey and stop at some of the scenic lakes and trails along the way.

CANSO PLANE CRASH HIKE IN TOFINO
▶ Check out my gear on Kit:
In this Episode you will see Tofino - a lovely small town west of Vancouver Island in Canada - and the Hike to an over 70 year old plane wreck in the Pacific Rim National Park. I will give you advice on how to get there - an overview of what the hike is like.
Background Information:
The Canso Plane departed from the nearby airport on February 12th 1945. Due to an engine failure it crash landed shortly after takeoff. The pilot managed to touch the plane down “safely” so no human casualties were reported. Very impressive.

TOFINO B.C.
This summer we went to Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada for a two-week camping trip with my cousin, and this is the cheesy family movie I made to remind us 30 years from now what it was like. (I'm hoping Youtube is still around then).
We went to Tofino, Hornby Island, Gold River and Tahsis. This is video one in the series, check out the rest of the videos as I publish them (I'll put them in a playlist somewhere on this channel).
As per usual, the most exciting bits for me - aside from the amazing scenery - was the food. The freshest seafood you could eat, the occasional fish taco, lots of coffee, and trying to cook on a Coleman stove with one singular frying pan and a plastic bowl that doubles as your washing basin.
We stayed at Mackenzie Beach Resort, which had a lovely, enclosed bay and great camping facilities.
Tofino was also the only spot on the journey where a bonfire ban was not in place, but for a lack of time and organisation we never got a chance to cook on an open fire.
Some of the spots featured in this vid (and others that are not but seriously worth a mention!):
-Remote Passages Marine Excursions (Hot Springs Boat Tour)
-Tough City Sushi (sooooo good)
-Rhino Coffee House (great donuts, really great)
-Shelter Restaurant (where we had the calamari and tuna stack)
-Tofino Brewing Co.
-Tofitian Cafe (amazing coffee)
-Wildside Grill (those fish tacos were deadly)
-Chocolate Tofino (delicious gelato with astronomical proportions - go for the salted caramel)
-Tofino Bike for rentals
-Pacific Rim National Park Reserve - Long Beach
-Rainforest trail
-Ucluelet lighthouse loop (not in Tofino but very nearby)
