world famous Drosselgasse, Rudesheim, Germany
This is the world famous Rudesheim Drosselgasse which is a 144 meter long lane in Rudesheim, Germany which is an old yet very touristy German village on the Rhine which has a year round population of only 3000 yet sees 10 million visitors per year. The Drosselgasse is world famous for its beer cafes, restaurants and dancing and drinking establishments. We enjoyed our visit. As the video shows, this visit was part of a Viking River Cruises tour. This was the optional Dine in Rudesheim tour and features Viking Kara cruise director Elizabeth. If we had it to do over, we would visit the Drosselgasse ourselves and have dinner on the ship because the Viking food was amazing and better than what we had at the Rudesheimer Schloss which is one of the most famous establishments on the Drosselgasse (actually rated #1 by TripAdvisor).

Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany
(65km/40miles south-west of Frankfurt)
Rüdesheim is a winemaking town in the Rhine Gorge and thereby part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. It lies in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis district in the Regierungsbezirk of Darmstadt in Hesse, Germany. It is officially known as Rüdesheim am Rhein, which distinguishes it from Rüdesheim an der Nahe.
The area was settled first by the Celts, then after the turn of the Christian Era by Ubii and later by Mattiaci. In the first century, the Romans pushed forth to the Taunus. In Bingen they built a castrum, and on the other side, near what is now Rüdesheim, lay a bridgehead on the way to the Limes.
The Romans were followed by the Alamanni, and along with the Migration Period (Völkerwanderung) came the Franks. Archaeological finds of glass from this time suggest that there was already winegrowing in Rüdesheim even then. The town's origin as a Frankish Haufendorf (roughly, clump village) can still be seen on today's town maps.
Rüdesheim had its first documentary mention in 1074. Its livelihood came mainly from winegrowing and shipping, particularly timber rafting.

Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany - Cable Car Ride to Niederwald Monument
Located on the Rhine River, Rüdesheim am Rhein, Germany is one of those charming towns you see on postcards. The Niederwald Monument (Niederwalddenkmal) is located high up on a hill overlooking the town and the best way to get to it is to take a Gondola Cable Car ride up. The monument also goes by the name of Germania Statue.
As is usual with my video uploads, Ed does pretty much all of the video filming and narration, while I do the majority of the still photos, edit everything, add music, etc. and upload it.
