Walk through the largest city and capital of Bhutan | Thimphu
Walking down the streets of Bhutan's largest and capital city Thimphu.
The Kingdom’s capital city is home to approximately 100,000 inhabitants including the Royal family. This bustling little city is the main centre of commerce, religion and government in the country. The juxtaposition of ancient tradition and modernity make Thimphu the ideal location for visitors to break away from their tour itinerary to immerse themselves in the contemporary Bhutanese lifestyle.

--About my Cooperation with G Adventures--
For many years I was searching for a suitable partner who offers tours in South America which align with my style of traveling as well as my values. After many meetings I’m glad I found this partner with G Adventures who offer many adventurous tour packages for travelers like me…but who also care about the environment and local communities in order to execute sustainable tourism. I forced this cooperation because I like the products and the philosophy of the company. Nevertheless all opinions, recommendations and views are my own.

Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan - Trekking to the SPECTACULAR Monastery on a Cliff! (Final Day in Bhutan)
Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan is one of the most famous attractions, and the beauty is mind-blowing!
►Subscribe for more videos:
On Day 19 of our food and travel trip to Bhutan, we dedicated the entire day to trekking to Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan (Paro Taktsang in Bhutanese Dzongkha), which sits literally on the edge of a cliff. The hike takes about 3 - 4 hours or so, and since I wanted to beat the main crowds, my wife and I left from the hotel quite early to get a head start. It worked out quite well, because we were some of the only people on the trail that early in the morning. The fresh air was amazing. We wound our way along the trail, and soon we could get amazing views of Tiger’s Nest hidden in the clouds and on the side of the cliff.
The trail, although steep, isn’t really dangerous in any parts, as long as you keep your eye on the trail and don’t try to get too close to the edge. At the top of Tiger’s Nest Monastery they don’t allow any photography, so you have to check in your bag. We walked around the monastery for a little while, ate some snacks, and then headed down.
Despite Tiger’s Nest Monastery in Bhutan being one of the most famous attractions and icons of Bhutan, it really is spectacular.

It’s typically recommended that you visit Tiger’s Nest at the end of your trip to Bhutan so that you acclimatize better to the elevation.
Gangtey Palace Hotel - After returning from Tiger’s Nest, we checked into the classic Gangtey Palace Hotel for our final night in Bhutan!

Come along on a virtual tour of Thimphu Bhutan!
Let's explore the world through Google Street View.
Today we are visiting Thimphu Bhutan! Wow! This is an amazing city! Fantastic architecture and history all around. Plenty of shopping and sightseeing. I loved seeing all of what little I could take in on this tour. I would love to visit and see it for myself some day.
As a side note, I know I risk some amount of cultural insensitivity when I drop into these places/religions that I often know so little about. Please forgive remarks that might seem demeaning. I love virtually exploring the world and it's many cultures and try to be appropriate while keeping things light.
Here you can check out where we have been on Google Maps.
Thanks to Google for Street View.

Taking a walk at Jigme Dorji National Park, Dodena, Thimphu.
Published on 5th July 2017
Going for a walk with a friend, Tashi Wangchuk at Jigme Dorji National Park in Dodena Thimphu Bhutan. Its around 18 kilometers from the city.
The Jigme Dorji National Park, named after the late Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, is the second-largest National Park of Bhutan. It occupies almost the entire Gasa District, as well as the northern areas of Thimphu District, Paro District, Punakha, and Wangdue Phodrang Districts. It was established in 1974 and stretches over an area of 4316 km², thereby spanning all three climate zones of Bhutan, ranging in elevation from 1400 to over 7000 meters. About 6,500 people in 1,000 households live within the park, from subsistence agriculture and animal husbandry. It is listed as a tentative site in Bhutan's Tentative List for UNESCO inclusion

If you want to visit Bhutan, I prefer this Guide.

The capital of one of the world's most intriguing destinations, Thimphu combines a natural small-town feel with a new commercial exuberance that constantly challenges the country's natural conservatism and Shangri La image. Vehicle traffic, unheard of a handful of years ago, now crawls through the center of town during an equally new phenomenon – rush hour. However, the juxtapositions of old and new remain part of Thimpu's charm. Crimson-robed monks, government ministers clad in traditional dress and camera-wielding tourists all share pavements lined with shops selling SIM cards and Buddhist accessories.
There are lots of places you can visit in Thimphu, I prefer Clock tower, Changlimithang Stadium, centenary and coronation park, Thimphu handicraft market, Tashichho Dzong, Thimphu viewpoint, Buddha Dordenma, and Motithang Takin Preserve. There are also many Dzong, market, and river you can visit in Thimpu city tour in Bhutan trip.

Bhutan is the only country in the world that doesn’t have a single traffic light in its capital city. Instead, policemen in Thimphu stand at major intersections and direct traffic. Supposedly a set was installed, and then quickly removed because the Bhutanese preferred the policemen.
