BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN England, UK.
Windsor is a town on the River Thames in southeast England, just west of London. It’s home to Windsor Castle, a residence of the British Royal Family. Built by William The Conqueror in the 11th century, the castle was extensively remodelled by subsequent monarchs. Public tours take in the State Apartments, which contain opulent furnishings, and paintings from the royal art collection.
In the castle grounds, the fan-vaulted, 15th-century St. George’s Chapel holds royal tombs including that of Henry VIII, George V and Charles I. Boat trips provide views of the castle from the river. The Magna Carta was signed at riverside Runnymede in 1215. Windsor Great Park was once a royal hunting ground, and its 5,000 acres of gardens, woodland and grassland are open to the public. The Royal Windsor Horse Show (May) and Royal Ascot (June) horse races at the nearby Ascot Racecourse are often attended by members of the royal family. The Legoland Windsor Resort theme park is just outside town.
Video we took of our walk at the Royal Borough of Windsor . We were lucky to see changing of the guard when we got there.

Windsor Castle & Town of Windsor, England
It was a beautiful, sunny day when we visited the charming town of Windsor, England and the historic castle located there....Windsor Castle. The castle, which dates back to the 11th century is famous for being a residence of the royal family. While Queen Elizabeth conducts her primary duties while at Buckingham Palace in London, it is here she lives for the most part. Often, she will also conduct some of her duties while here. We were told that while we were here, she was in residence for the day, but did not have the chance to catch a glimpse of her.
As is expected, the castle is rich with history, St. George's Chapel is the place of worship that is located there. It has also held notable weddings, and is the burial place for many royals. The list of weddings and burials is to long to list here, but can be found by clicking on the following link:
When one first arrives at the castle, there is the opportunity to get a free tour of the overview of the castle before we are left on our own - our tour guide was charming, as well as funny.
The grounds of the castle are beautiful with colorful gardens. Coming for a visit here was one of the highlights of our England vacation. This included walking about the charming town of Windsor, quite a bit to see here as well, with many cafes to choose from. The old railway station has been converted into a nice shopping mall - we had arrived by bus; we took the train back to London. A wonderful day well spent.
Ed did all of the camcorder filming and narrations heard (with the exception of the voice of our tour guide). I did all of the other work of editing & uploading to You Tube.

Windsor is situated 23 miles (37 km) west of Charing Cross, London, 7 miles (11 km) south east of Maidenhead, and 21 miles (34 km) east of the county town of Reading. It is immediately south of the River Thames, which forms its boundary with its ancient twin town of Eton. The village of Old Windsor, just over 2 miles (3 km) to the south, predates what is now called Windsor by around 300 years; in the past Windsor was formally referred to as New Windsor to distinguish the two.
As a result of the castle, Windsor is a popular tourist destination and has facilities usually found in larger towns: two railway stations, a theatre and several substantial hotels. Various boat trips operate on the River Thames, with connections to Maidenhead and Staines-upon-Thames. In winter, Alexandra Gardens hosts a temporary ice rink. Near the town is Legoland Windsor, the only Legoland park in the United Kingdom and the largest Legoland park in the world in terms of area. Legoland Windsor was built on the site of the former Windsor Safari Park.
Windsor is accessible from Junction 6 of the M4 and from Slough via a 3 mile long dual carriageway. Windsor has two railway stations. Windsor & Eton Central railway station has a shuttle service to Slough. Windsor & Eton Riverside station provides a service to London Waterloo. Windsor is linked to the town of Eton (on the opposite bank of the River Thames) by Windsor Bridge.

A Walk Around Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle is a royal residence at Windsor in the English county of Berkshire. The castle is notable for its long association with the English and later British royal family and also for its architecture. The original castle was built in the 11th century after the Norman invasion by William the Conqueror. Since the time of Henry I, it has been used by succeeding monarchs and is the longest-occupied palace in Europe. The castle's lavish, early 19th-century State Apartments are architecturally significant, described by art historian Hugh Roberts as a superb and unrivalled sequence of rooms widely regarded as the finest and most complete expression of later Georgian taste. The castle includes the 15th-century St George's Chapel, considered by historian John Martin Robinson to be one of the supreme achievements of English Perpendicular Gothic design. More than 500 people live and work in Windsor Castle.
Originally designed to protect Norman dominance around the outskirts of London, and to oversee a strategically important part of the River Thames, Windsor Castle was built as a motte and bailey, with three wards surrounding a central mound. Gradually replaced with stone fortifications, the castle withstood a prolonged siege during the First Barons' War at the start of the 13th century. Henry III built a luxurious royal palace within the castle during the middle of the century, and Edward III went further, rebuilding the palace to produce an even grander set of buildings in what would become the most expensive secular building project of the entire Middle Ages in England. Edward's core design lasted through the Tudor period, during which Henry VIII and Elizabeth I made increasing use of the castle as a royal court and centre for diplomatic entertainment.
Windsor Castle survived the tumultuous period of the English Civil War, when it was used as a military headquarters for Parliamentary forces and a prison for Charles I. During the Restoration, Charles II rebuilt much of Windsor Castle with the help of architect Hugh May, creating a set of extravagant, Baroque interiors that are still admired. After a period of neglect during the 18th century, George III and George IV renovated and rebuilt Charles II's palace at colossal expense, producing the current design of the State Apartments, full of Rococo, Gothic and Baroque furnishings. Victoria made minor changes to the castle, which became the centre for royal entertainment for much of her reign. Windsor Castle was used as a refuge for the royal family during the Luftwaffe bombing campaigns of the Second World War, and survived a fire in 1992. It is a popular tourist attraction, a venue for hosting state visits, and the preferred weekend home of Elizabeth II.
