STORYLINE:
Emergency workers removed bodies on Sunday from the charred wreckage of a twin-engine plane that slammed into a house on the Caribbean island of St. Barts, killing all 19 people on board and one on the ground, authorities said.
Air Caraibes Flight 1501 from nearby Dutch St. Maarten crashed on Saturday afternoon as it approached the runway at St. Jean Airport,
authorities said.
One American was on board, and most of the other passengers were believed to be French, said Georges Alexandre, local manager for
Air Caraibes.
Two crew members also were on board, the airline said.
Police were interviewing witnesses and searching for clues to what could have caused the crash in clear weather on St. Barthelemy, a glitzy resort island administered by France that has nearly 7,000 residents and is frequented by tourists who stay at some of the most expensive hotels in the Caribbean.
Retired islander Bertholo Bruno said he saw the plane moments before and then suddenly heard the sound of one engine sputtering.
The plane then veered sharply to the left and plunged, he said.
One man was killed when the de Havilland Twin Otter plane struck the house, located on a hillside just 1,500 feet from the airport,
authorities said.
The man's wife was hospitalised with minor injuries, said police Capt. Laurent Le Gentil.
The walls of the house struck by the plane were still largely intact, but the roof was destroyed, suggesting the plane descended
at a steep angle.
Among the scattered wreckage, trees had been singed by fire, but by Sunday the flames were extinguished.
The plane had no cockpit voice recorder, or black box, on board, said Philippe Chevallier, managing director of the Guadeloupe-based airline.
The propeller-driven Twin Otters are among the few aircraft that can land on St. Barts' runway, which is nestled among hills and is
particularly short - about 2,000 feet.
Pilots have to obtain a special certification to land there, and planes approaching the runway must make a quick descent and fly low
over houses before landing.
Air Caraibes, which was formed last year when several small airlines - including Air St. Martin, Air St. Barth, Air Guadeloupe,
and Air Martinique - merged into one organization serving the Eastern Caribbean, has 21 airplanes, Chevallier said.
The airline sent a charter flight to France to bring relatives to the crash site, said Herve Siffre, a police spokesman.

Saint Barthélemy (French pronunciation: [sɛ̃baʁtelemi]), officially the Territorial collectivity of Saint-Barthélemy (French: Collectivité territoriale de Saint-Barthélemy), called Ouanalao by the indigenous people, is an overseas collectivity of France in the West Indies. Often abbreviated to St-Barth in French, and St. Barths or St. Barts in English,
the island lies about 35 kilometres (22 mi) southeast of St. Martin and north of St. Kitts. Puerto Rico is 240 kilometres (150 mi) to the west in the Greater Antilles.Saint Barthélemy was for many years a French commune forming part of Guadeloupe, which is an overseas region and department of France. In 2003, the island voted in favour of secession from Guadeloupe in order to form a separate overseas collectivity (COM) of France. The collectivity is one of four territories among the Leeward Islands in the northeastern Caribbean that comprise the French West Indies, along with Saint Martin, Guadeloupe (200 kilometres (120 mi) southeast), and Martinique.
Saint Barthélemy, a volcanic island fully encircled by shallow reefs, has an area of 25 square kilometres (9.7 sq mi) and a population of 9,625 (January 2015 estimate). Its capital is Gustavia, which also contains the main harbour to the island. It is the only Caribbean island which was a Swedish colony for any significant length of time; Guadeloupe was under Swedish rule only briefly at the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Symbolism from the Swedish national arms, the Three Crowns, still appears in the island's coat of arms. The language, cuisine, and culture, however, are distinctly French. The island is a popular tourist destination during the winter holiday season, especially for the rich and famous during the Christmas and New Year period.

Holiday Inspiring Palm-Tree Hideout in Vietnam- Oceanique Villas - Architecture & Design
Located in Mui Ne, a seaside holiday destination in Vietnam’s south east coast, Oceanique Villas by MM++ Architects is a daring residential project. According to the developers, the construction is composed of three units, two three-bedrooms villas and one four-bedroom residence, each with a private swimming pool. Facing various challenges, the building was raised almost two meters from the beach level in order to keep a good privacy from the neighboring public beach, maximize sea view and prevent site erosion.
(HD) Slide show ''Back in time ''. Sat 23rd November 2013
This slide show is another little project idea i kept back for the Winter, and was basically an experiment !! I have a good few slides in the house , that are in fair condition ( apart from the odd mark or two ) that i couldn't show on Youtube. So i came up with an idea that i could dig out my old slide projector , and mounted on the ironing board project the images onto the bedroom wall !! Then hand-held , take pictures of the images using the Panasonic camcorder !! It at first seemed a daunting task, but although each and every slide needed to be focused before taking the picture, i think the idea worked quite well. Some of my slides didn't make it to the end as they were slightly too dark....the camcorder flash went off and ruined the pictures...no worries only about 6 failed.
My father who used to be a keen amateur photographer between the 1950's and the late 1990's took the first 9 pictures. The first shot was taken on Ferraniacolor slide film , and the colors have stayed very good after 53 years !!! The other 8 were taken on the old Favorite Kodachrome. He later successfully had many of his pictures published in Amateur Photographer magazine....which no longer exists these days.
In the 1980's i was also keen on photography and used an Olympus OM10, unfortunately it was stolen on a night out in Ibiza !!!! So ended my hobby until 2003 when i briefly owned a Canon EOS 300.....all my slides were always taken on Fujichrome film; I loved the richness of colors they produced.
I have compiled a random selection of pictures, although they are mainly Aircraft, as i was once an avid aviation fan. The first picture is taken in Bristol City Center , 9 years before we moved to England, we came by train, Dad didn't own a car then, 5 years before The Severn Bridge opened. The Dakota shots at Swansea Airport are my favorite ones....i have had these made into large photos a few years back..
The two pictures of me and my Uncle Dave, mean a lot as he emigrated to Perth Australia in 1972. He trained to fly at The Achilles School of Flying at Weston-S-Mare Airport in 1968, and was Student of the Year. This links in very well with my last upload of The Helicopter Museum ( part two) where the future plans are shown at the end clip. They hope to restore the old Achilles Flying School building , and restore the old control tower as well. Persimmon Homes have donated some land for them to keep Aviation in Weston.....includes a 500 ft runway for the Helicopters to land. The rest of the Airport is lost to new housing !!!!
I have checked some details of some of the Aircraft in the pictures with the CAA. ( Civil Aviation Authority.) ...
Douglas DC3 Dakota G-AHCZ after the war was operated by BOAC from 1946 to 1947, and then by BEA until 1961. It then was sold to Cambrian Airways in Cardiff , and was eventually sold on to Cyprus on the 18th April 1969. I have no idea who owned it next.

Hurricane Irma lashes Cuba; Jose poses threat elsewhere
Irma battered Cuba with deafening winds and relentless rain Saturday, while a second hurricane, Jose, threatened to lash already-reeling islands elsewhere in the Caribbean.
Cuban coastal cities were clobbered by high winds from Irma that upended trees, toppled utility poles and scattered debris across streets. Roads were blocked, and witnesses said a provincial museum near the eye of the storm was in ruins.
There were no immediate reports of casualties in Cuba in addition to the 22 dead left in Irma's wake across the Caribbean, where the storm ravaged such lush resort islands as St. Martin, St. Barts, St. Thomas, Barbuda and Anguilla.
Many of Irma's victims fled their battered islands on ferries and fishing boats for fear Jose would destroy or drench anything Irma left untouched.
On the Dutch side of St. Martin, an island divided between French and Dutch control, an estimated 70 percent of the homes were destroyed by Irma, according to the Dutch government. Officials said Jose was forecast to dump more rain on the island's buildings, many of which lost their roofs to Irma.
Some islands received a last-minute reprieve from Jose as it passed by.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center downgraded a hurricane warning for Barbuda and Anguilla. A hurricane watch also was discontinued for nearby Antigua.
As of midday Saturday, Irma was 65 miles (100 kilometers) east of Varadero, on Cuba's northern coast, with winds of 125 mph (205 kmh). Jose was 95 miles (155 kilometers) northeast of the Leeward Islands, with winds of 145 mph (230 kmh).
As Irma rolled in, Cuban soldiers went through coastal towns to force people to evacuate, taking people to shelters at government buildings and schools - and even caves.
Video images from northern and eastern Cuba showed uprooted utility poles and signs, many downed trees and extensive damage to roofs.
Eastern Cuba, home to the island's poor, rural population and a major sugarcane-growing area, faces a difficult recovery, with its economy in tatters even before the storm because of years of neglect and lack of investment.
Civil Defense official Gergorio Torres said authorities were trying to tally the extent of the damage, which appeared concentrated in banana-growing areas.
Looting was reported on St. Martin. Curfews were imposed there and on St. Barts, and French and Dutch authorities announced plans to send hundreds more troops and police to keep order.
It was not immediately known whether U.S. President Donald Trump's luxury property on St. Martin had been damaged.
On Anguilla, Vanessa Croft Thompson crammed into her home's laundry room with her husband, her best friend and their children along with their cats and dogs, as Irma's floodwaters swamped her house. The storm peeled off her roof, rained water inside, and sheared paint from her walls.
Our hurricane-proof door was bending in, it was warping ... and the entire house was shaking like it was an earthquake, she said.
Thompson, the head of the English department at Anguilla's only high school, said: I don't even know something that's not destroyed. There's nothing here that hasn't been ripped apart by Irma.

Florida authorities went door-to-door warning residents of the massive hurricane, sending crowds jamming highways as they fled north.
The Category 4 storm had maximum sustained winds of 155 mph Saturday morning. Before it was slightly downgraded, it made landfall on Cuba's Camaguey Archipelago as a Category 5 hurricane, the National Hurricane Center said Friday night.
Irma hit Ciego de Avila province with gusts so strong, it destroyed the instrument used to measure wind, Cuba's meteorological agency reported.
Just hours after Hurricane Irma strengthened Friday night to a Category 5 storm as it made landfall on Cuba, the monster storm went back to a Category 4 storm around 5 a.m. Saturday, the National Hurricane Center announced.
Its maximum sustained winds decreased to 150 mph, but the storm remains strong as it moves closer to South Florida at a speed of 13 mph. As of 5 a.m., it was 245 miles southeast of Miami. Just three hours earlier, it was 275 miles south-southeast of the city.

SUMMARY
=======
The history of slavery spans many cultures, nationalities, and religions from ancient times to the present day. However the social, economic, and legal positions of slaves were vastly different in different systems of slavery in different times and places.Slavery appears in the Mesopotamian Code of Hammurabi (c. 1860 BC), which refers to it as an established institution.Slavery is rare among hunter-gatherer populations, because it is developed as a system of social stratification. Slavery was known in the very first civilizations such as Sumer in Mesopotamia which dates back as far as 3500 BC. The Byzantine–Ottoman wars and the Ottoman wars in Europe resulted in the taking of large numbers of Christian slaves. Slavery became common within much of Europe during the Dark Ages and it continued into the Middle Ages. The Dutch, French, Spanish, Portuguese, British, Arabs and a number of West African kingdoms played a prominent role in the Atlantic slave trade, especially after 1600. David P. Forsythe wrote: The fact remained that at the beginning of the nineteenth century an estimated three-quarters of all people alive were trapped in bondage against their will either in some form of slavery or serfdom. The Republic of Dubrovnik was the first European country to ban the slave trade in 1416, and in modern times Denmark-Norway in 1802.
Although slavery is no longer legal anywhere in the world (with the exception of penal labour), human trafficking remains an international problem and an estimated 25-40 million people are enslaved today, the majority in Asia. During the 1983–2005 Second Sudanese Civil War people were taken into slavery. Evidence emerged in the late 1990s of systematic child slavery and trafficking on cacao plantations in West Africa; see the chocolate and slavery article. Slavery continues into the 21st-century. Although slavery in Mauritania was criminalized in August 2007, in Mauritania it is estimated that up to 600,000 men, women and children, or 20% of the population, are currently enslaved, many of them used as bonded labor. Slavery in 21st-century Islamism continues, and women and children have been abducted and enslaved (often as sex slaves) by Islamist quasi-states such as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and Boko Haram.
