Prince of Wales Hotel, Waterton Lakes National Park, Canada
The Prince of Wales Hotel is located in Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada, overlooking Upper Waterton Lake, near the Canada-United States border. The Prince of Wales Hotel offers an experience like no other. Views from the hotel lobby and lawn are magnificent panoramas of Waterton Lake and the surrounding mountains in Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada. Located just north of Glacier National Park. It is only open 3-4 months each year. Constructed between 1926 and 1927, the hotel was built by the American Great Northern Railway to lure American tourists north of the border during the prohibition era. The hotel was named after the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), in a transparent attempt to entice him to stay in the hotel on his 1927 Canadian tour, but the Prince stayed at a nearby ranch instead.
The Prince of Wales Hotel enjoys the distinction of being the sole establishment among Canada's grand railway hotels to have been built by an American, as opposed to a Canadian, railway company. Any reviews for this hotel range from excellent to poor because it takes a special kind of traveler to appreciate this historical hotel.
If you want a totally modern hotel, do not stay here. The experience staying here is equivalent to the luxury suites found about 100 years ago. The conveniences and inconveniences are nearly the same. One should be willing to tolerate a few inconveniences to enjoy an authentic historical experience. Badly needs to be remodeled and updated. NO Air conditioning. No TV. Heater is a Baseboard heater. The carpet in our room was badly stained. Need new wood floors. Paper thin walls. Can hear all conversations in adjoining rooms. The hotel restaurant serves good food and offers a great view of the lake. Parking was free. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Akamina Ridge Hike 2011 Waterton Park Forum and Wall Lake DC Walters
This is one of the triple crown hikes sponsored by Pearl's Cafe in Waterton National Peace Park. The other two hikes are The summit trail and Crypt Lake. All three are considered world class hikes and take most of the day to complete. The Akamina Ridge hike is about 20km. It starts at the Akamina trailhead, skirts around Forum and Wall lakes on the high cliffs to the Southwest. Lane Walters and Colton Holmes were the first to complete the 2011 Triple Crown challenge. They are featured in this video along with family members, Wade Walters, Spencer Walters and videographer father, David C Walters

EP.15: Glacier National Park - Montana, Waterton Lakes National Park - Canada
Our visit to Waterton Lakes - Glacier National Park was the first time we'd been there in 19 years. We found some dramatic changes and some not so dramatic changes. the landforms, lakes and streams were just as beautiful as they were 19 years ago, but the crowds made the experience less than ideal. There were many trailheads that were totally out of parking each time we tried and we were never able to stop at the Logan Pass visitor center as there were cars parked for hundreds of yards in either direction from the entrance. This also prevented us from taking the Highline Trail hike as there was no place to park. Glacier will always be special to us, but we hope our next visit will be less hectic.
The Frank Landslide of 1903 was Canada's deadliest landslide. On the morning of April 29, 1903 a 1,400' high wall of rock from Turtle Mountain plunged from the summit. The southeast part of Frank, Alberta along with two miles of railroad, a coal mine and the homes of 100 people disappeared beneath from 50 to 150 feet of rock.

Crypt Lake via Bosporus Waterton Triple Crown DC Walters 2015
Ellen Walters and Jacinthe Fontaine take the road less traveled by to Crypt Lake and that is what makes all the difference. The Crypt Lake hike is one of the most spectacular in the park and is one leg of the coveted Triple Crown in Waterton Lakes National Peace Park. The other two hikes require the completion of the Summit Trail through the Carthew Alderston Lakes, over the summit to Cameron Lake. That hike requires some kind of shuttle between the town-site and the Cameron Lake parking lot. The third hike of the Triple Crown takes you all along the Akamina Ridge which circuits Wall and Forum Lakes into BC. This hike was also filmed by DC Walters and can be found also on Youtube.
The Bosporus route to Crypt Lake is little known and seldom used. To follow this route you must cross the Waterton Lake at the narrows and then try to stay on the illusive trail along the Bosporus until it links up with the Wishbone Trail which is then distinct and easy enough to follow to the Crypt Landing where almost all other hikers begin their hike up the Crypt Lake Trail. Watch for bears along the bosporus route because they do not expect humans to frequent this trail. In the past it was often used by horses coming from the Wishbone trail but this doesn't seem to be the case at present.
This hike was filmed edited and posted by David Clyde Walters of Lethbridge on July 13, 2015 The music license was purchased from Dan O'Connor available at DanOSongs.com

Ferry across lake. Hike up canyon. Climb 8 foot ladder into a natural 60 foot long tunnel through mountain. Such a sweet hiking experience. Dexter was impressive today.
