Years of Wanderlust Day 192 - Colorful Sighisoara, Romania
I said it wrong in the video, it's day 192! On my 192th day, I visited the Unesco heritage town Sighisoara located around central Romania. Very pretty and good for a day trip from Cluj or Brasov. Sighisoara has colorful buildings everywhere in its old town, and has churches and a legacy behind it.

This Side of Romania No One Shows You
Today's episode here in Romania is extra special as it's a side of this country not many people show you. Rather than heading up to Corvins castle straight from Bucharest instead we headed south...to the Serbian border.
After seeing the Danube in three other countries, we thought the Romanian countryside would be the perfect spot to actually take a boat trip on it for the first time.
We saw
- Veterani Cave
- Trajan's Bridge
- Rock Sculpture of Decebalus
- Roman Tablet
Next stop we decided to take an hour hike 350 meters above the Danube to see the best views of the boilers.
That evening we arrived at our accommodation - the cutest little beach huts with the best views in all of Romania.
Where we stayed: Dream Tricule - Danube's Boilers
After awaking at sunrise in the morning we then headed out to a beautiful national park - Nera Gorges National Park to hike through the forests, see waterfalls and go for a cheeky little dip.
We then ended our day at Casa Thea with Dada the goat, some local Romania food and some fresh juice.

Our Trip To Romania
I decided to finally edit together all of the footage from our trip to Romania. It includes clips from Senia, Cluj, Brasov and Bucharest. I also forgot to put a proper title in for the scenes that we shot in Turda, at the salt mine amusement park.This is more of a documentation of the experience rather than a well done video. I just felt that I couldn't move forward with other video projects until I did something with this footage.

Transylvania! What a place. It is no wonder this place was ranked the top place to visit in 2016 by Lonely Planet! In this video we travel from Sighisoara to Cluj-Napoca via Turda (no poop jokes). We started with the room Dracula was born in. That place was a total circus. This area of Romania is so beautiful. I wish we had of had more time there!

Going by train from Bucharest's Gara de Nord to Brasov is fairly easy! You can arrive right before your intended departure time and pretty much be guaranteed a ticket. We arrived an hour early for our train, and purchased tickets at the counter.The train ticket from Bucharest to Brasov cost about 50 lei each which is approximately $13 Canadian at current exchange rate. The journey took 2 and a half hours. The seats were arranged in groups of four seats facing one another. We sat with an older couple, and ate our snacks. The trip went pretty quickly, but one critique is that there wasn't much leg room in the seats. You had to interlock your knees with complete strangers..... alas, when in Rome...ANIA , get to know the locals really really well.
The train ride was beautiful, and we filmed a lot of the journey through forests and fields and mountains closer to the end of the trip.Once we arrived in Brasov, we walked about 15 minutes to our hostel in the city centre (Jugendstube). Our hostel was located right off one of the main pedestrian streets in the old town, and the room was amazing for just 30 euros a night (including breakfast)!On many street corners you can buy hot mulled wine from carts, and wander around with your warm beverage, whilst exploring the streets and lane ways.
We ate dinner outside in the Old town square, pizza and a Timisoreau beer.

We’ve arrived in Vienna, and I think this is our hostel. We’re going to start the day by visiting the Schönbrunn Palace, one of Vienna’s most popular attractions. Apparently, it has over 1,400 rooms inside. We’re not going inside today though, we’re going to go behind it and check out the amazing park. It’s amazing how much space there is here. This park is massive. Imagine to have this for your summer house. It’s amazing. This used to be the summer residence for the Austrian royal family. It first started just as a palace and a place to go hunting, but over the centuries, it expanded into a place that now has one of the oldest zoos in Europe, it has a labyrinth, it has statues everywhere, and it’s such an amazing place to come and relax.
We’re in Naschmarkt, Vienna’s most popular market, and it’s been here since the 16th century. We’re going to see if we can find some lunch and go and have a picnic. Let’s have a picnic. We’re sitting in Volksgarten, a park surrounded by six of the most iconic buildings in Vienna. We have the Hofburg Palace over there, the Parliament, the City Hall, the Burgtheater, and two museums. It’s really beautiful here. There are rose gardens everywhere. Nature’s really nice. It’s a perfect place to have a picnic. We’re walking through the streets of Vienna, and for me, I grew up in New Zealand and played classical music for over twelve years. And getting to see where Mozart used to live and Beethoven used to hang out, I feel really grateful to be able to come here and see where these guys got their inspiration from. I think they’re really cool.
A must-try when you’re in Vienna is the sachertorte. We went to one of the original shops and bought a slice. Check out how fancy this bag is. Feels like I’ve been shopping in Gucci. Apparently, the drinking water in Vienna is some of the best in the word. It comes straight from the Austrian Alps. And it tastes so good. Like Sofia said, we bought a sachetorte, one of the most famous cakes in Austria. Apparently there are two places that claim to have the original, and we think this one here is the best one. Let’s see what it looks like. Yeah, let’s see what it looks like. It’s another little package here. Apparently it’s a chocolate cake with some marmalade inside. It’s really good. We’ve had a great day here. Tomorrow we’re heading off to Prague.
