Yangzhou TRAVEL VLOG
Just an hour train ride away from the heart of Nanjing is Yangzhou- a quaint little city full of life. Yangzhou is like many cities wrapped in one.
For the adventurers, there is Slender West Lake- a mini version of the infamous West Lake in Hangzhou. For the history fanatics, there are classical gardens similar to those in Suzhou, and historical homes-turned museums where government officials used to reside. For the shoppers, there is Dongguan, a hugely lit pavilion lined with streets of bustling little shops; not to mention delicious little snacks sold along the road. And for the party goers, there is a 1895 clubbing district very similar to the 1912 district in Nanjing or the Taipei 101 district in Taiwan.

This hotel in Yangzhou is located near Shugang Xifeng Ecological Park. The Xifeng Hotel Yangzhou connects to Slender West Lake and Daming Temple, both national scenic attractions. Interest in conservation and small scale development is growing in China, according to Shanghai architects Lyndon Neri and Rossana Hu, whose conversion of a former colonial police station opened in the city in November 2012.
Nanjing
Nanjing ( listen; Chinese: 南京; pinyin: Nánjīng; Wade–Giles: Nan-ching) is the capital of Jiangsu province in Eastern China. It has a prominent place in Chinese history and culture, having been the capital of China for several periods. Its present name means Southern Capital and was widely romanized as Nankin and Nanking until the pinyin language reform, after which Nanjing was gradually adopted as the standard spelling of the city's name in most languages that use the Roman alphabet.
Located in the lower Yangtze River drainage basin and Yangtze River Delta economic zone, Nanjing has long been one of China's most important cities. Having been the capital city of six different dynasties since 3 A.D., it is recognized as one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China. It was the capital of Wu during the Three Kingdoms Period, and the capital of the Republic of China prior to its flight to Taiwan during the Chinese Civil War. Nanjing is also one of the fifteen sub-provincial cities in the People's Republic of China's administrative structure, enjoying jurisdictional and economic autonomy only slightly less than that of a province. Nanjing has long been a national centre of education, research, transport networks and tourism. The city will host the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics.

Amanyangyun resort by Kerry Hill Architects designed to be a living museum | Interiors | Dezeen
Amanyangyun hotel is designed to celebrate Chinese culture says Tanuj Goenka, director of Kerry Hill Architects, in this movie produced by Dezeen for the AHEAD awards.
Part of the Aman Resorts collection of hotels, Amanyangyun was named Hotel of the Year at the AHEAD Asia Awards 2019, which celebrated the best in hotel and resort design across the continent.
The project was the big winner of the night, also winning the Guestrooms, Hotel Conversion and Visual Identity categories.
The resort was designed by Kerry Hill Architects as part of a restoration of a 2,000-year-old forest. The project also involved the preservation of several antique buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties that were salvaged from their original site in Jiangxi province, to avoid demolition to make way for a new dam.
In total, 10,000 Camphor trees and 50 historic buildings were transported 600 kilometres to a site on the outskirts of Shanghai.

Hangzhou (Mandarin: [xǎŋ.ʈʂóu] (listen); local dialect: /ɦɑ̃.tse/), formerly romanized as Hangchow, is the capital and most populous city of Zhejiang Province in East China. It sits at the head of Hangzhou Bay, which separates Shanghai and Ningbo. Hangzhou grew to prominence as the southern terminus of the Grand Canal and has been one of the most renowned and prosperous cities in China for much of the last millennium. The city's West Lake, a UNESCO World Heritage site immediately west of the city, is among its best-known attractions. A study conducted by PwC and China Development Research Foundation saw Hangzhou ranked first among Chinese Cities of Opportunity. Hangzhou is also considered a World City with a Beta+ classification according to GaWC.Hangzhou is classified as a sub-provincial city and forms the core of the Hangzhou metropolitan area, the fourth-largest in China. During the 2010 Chinese census, the metropolitan area held 21.102 million people over an area of 34,585 km2 (13,353 sq mi). Hangzhou prefecture had a registered population of 9,018,000 in 2015.Hangzhou was repeatedly rated as the best commercial city in the mainland of China by Forbes. As the headquarters of Internet industry enterprises such as Alibaba, Hangzhou has strongly attracted people those work in Internet industry. Therefore, in the new growing cities that became popular in the 2010's, Hangzhou is one of the main representative cities. Since 2014, the rapid growth of population has caused the rapid growth of local housing prices.
In September 2015, Hangzhou was awarded the 2022 Asian Games. It will be the third city in China to host the Asian Games after Beijing 1990 and Guangzhou 2010. Hangzhou, an emerging technology hub and home to the e-commerce giant Alibaba, also hosted the eleventh G20 summit in 2016.

Jiangnan or Jiang Nan (Chinese: 江南; pinyin: Jiāngnán; Wu: Kaon平 noe去; sometimes spelled Kiang-nan, literally South of the river) is a geographic area in China referring to lands immediately to the south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, including the southern part of its delta. The region encompasses the city of Shanghai, the southern part of Jiangsu Province, the southeastern part of Anhui Province, the northern part of Jiangxi Province and the northern part of Zhejiang Province. The most important cities in the area are Shanghai, Anqing, Changzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Wenzhou and Zhenjiang.
Jiangnan has long been regarded as one of the most prosperous regions in China due to its wealth in natural resources and very high human development. People of the region speak Jiangnan Mandarin and Wu Chinese dialects as their native languages.
Shunzhi Emperor
The Shunzhi Emperor, formerly romanized as the Shun-chih Emperor, was the third emperor of the Qing dynasty and the first Qing emperor to rule over China, from 1644 to 1661. A committee of Manchu princes chose him to succeed his father, Hong Taiji, in September 1643, when he was five years old. The princes also appointed two co-regents: Dorgon, the 14th son of the Qing dynasty's founder Nurhaci, and Jirgalang, one of Nurhaci's nephews, both of whom were members of the Qing imperial clan.
From 1643 to 1650, political power lay mostly in the hands of Dorgon. Under his leadership, the Qing Empire conquered most of the territory of the fallen Ming dynasty, chased Ming loyalist regimes deep into the southwestern provinces, and established the basis of Qing rule over China despite highly unpopular policies such as the hair cutting command of 1645, which forced Qing subjects to shave their forehead and braid their remaining hair into a queue resembling that of the Manchus. After Dorgon's death on the last day of 1650, the young Shunzhi Emperor started to rule personally. He tried, with mixed success, to fight corruption and to reduce the political influence of the Manchu nobility. In the 1650s, he faced a resurgence of Ming loyalist resistance, but by 1661 his armies had defeated the Qing Empire's last enemies, seafarer Koxinga and the Prince of Gui of the Southern Ming dynasty, both of whom would succumb the following year. The Shunzhi Emperor died at the age of 22 of smallpox, a highly contagious disease that was endemic in China, but against which the Manchus had no immunity. He was succeeded by his third son Xuanye, who had already survived smallpox, and who reigned for sixty years under the era name Kangxi. Because fewer documents have survived from the Shunzhi era than from later eras of the Qing dynasty, the Shunzhi era is a relatively little-known period of Qing history.
