Picnic at Wang Takrai Waterfall

This is a wonderful place to go to for a day trip. It is beautiful and safe and only an hour and a half away from Rangsit, Bangkok . The nature reserve is open from 8 am to 5 pm for day passes but you can rent a place to stay over night as well. The entrance fee is 20 baht per person and 100 baht per car with four people. It's not that far to walk from the entrance of the park to the end.
The water is nice and cool and clean and there are about four main spots where you can settle down for the day and have your picnic. At every spot there is a bathroom as well as a shop to buy food and snacks. They also sell mats to sit on for 120 baht as well as swimsuits and tshirts. You will also find a big heap of inner tubes at every swim spot that you can rent to take a trip down the river (or just to chill with in the water) for 20 - 40 baht (depending on the size of the tube). If you take your tube back to its designated heap (they are all marked with specific symbols) you might get some money back (that is what I experienced).
We traveled there from Future Park in Rangsit. The van can be found under the bridge that goes to Future Park and costs 100 baht per person. Coming back was a bit tricky. We basically stood on the side of the road and waved down vans that seemed familiar to the one we came in. The van we took back was van nr 967 and it was 80 baht per person.
There is also the big slide which goes over the river and is 50 baht per person. I, myself did not do it but it looked like a lot of fun. And another thing, even though there are no signs that say No bikinis or one pieces it would be respectful towards the Thai people if the girls swam in trunks and a tshirt. The riverbed is also very rocky, so maybe go with somekind of amphibias shoe.
All in all we spent most of the day in the river which was very relaxing with children laughing and birds singing. It really is a fun getaway for everyone.

boat trip across the reservoir and up the riverYou can also take a boat trip across the lake and up the river behind the dam into Khao Yai. How far you can go depends on how high the water level. When the water level is low you can travel just a few kilometers but if the damm is full you can travel many kilometers up the river and into the jungle. These boat trips also include the chance to do a short trek into the jungle to one of the small waterfalls with drop pools for a refreshing swim in the cool waters.
