Walking Hangzhou's West Lake Causeways (Day 1)
West Lake / 西湖 is a freshwater lake in Hangzhou divided into five sections by three causeways. There are numerous temples, pagodas, gardens and artificial islands within the lake.
At the beginning of the Song dynasty's Yuanyou era (1086–1094), another great poet, Su Shi (also known as Su Dongpo), came to Hangzhou to serve as its governor. At that time, the farmers suffered greatly drought again, due to overgrowth of the weeds at the bottom of the lake clogging the irrigation ducts. He ordered dredging of the lake and piled up all the mud into another causeway, in the style of Bai Causeway, but much wider and nearly three times as long: he also planted willow trees along its banks. This causeway was later named after him as the Su Causeway. There are six bridges along the 2.6 km Su Causeway (蘇堤), and they are called separately Yingbo(映波),Suolan(锁澜),Wangshan(望山),Yadi(压堤),Dongpu(东浦),Kuahong(跨虹) Bridge, which all symbolize the characteristics of the bridge itself and also expose the structural beauty and its colorful connotation. Dawn on the Su Causeway in Spring 蘇堤春曉 is one of the attractions.
A Ming dynasty dredging project extended the water surface from west of Su Causeway to Hongchun Bridge and Mao Jia Bu. The excavated silt was used to broaden Su Causeway, and also used to build a long causeway in western Inside Lake, called Yanggong Causeway (楊公堤).

Xtep Masterplan, Anhui Province, China
This is a 650,000sqm mixed-use development in Bengbu City, for Xtep International, comprising high-end residential buildings, a Sheraton hotel, offices, luxury retail and a nursery school. Inspiration for the masterplan stemmed from the dragon and pearls, as Bengbu is known as the 'Pearl City' and the site is located next to the Dragon Lake. Like a dragon flying across the site, an undulating skypark links all of the residential buildings. The dragon then stops to play with the pearls on top of the retail mall, before soaring into the clouds, represented by the 78-storey office and hotel tower. Bengbu is also known for its precious metal resources, reflected in the façade of the mall and hotel buildings, which are a light gold colour, creating a luxurious and magical feeling. The residential buildings are simple and elegant, all with huge sky living rooms and maximised the views towards Dragon Lake. This development is set to become a new iconic landmark for Bengbu. Construction begins in January 2012.

Study Abroad in China | City #7: Shanghai Part 2 | Gilman Scholarship
Hi, I would just like to make this clear to everyone that the video clips are from 2017 portraying Shanghai Muslims. Muslims are currently being DETAINED and treated UNJUST in areas such as Xinjiang. Xinjiang is NOT one of the cities offered on the trip, nor would it even be safe to. There's video evidence as well as speeches made by actual Uyghur Muslims regarding this. Feel free to go to uhrp.org or any other sites to learn more.
I will be updating more details about the event as promised when I am free!
This video was created to fulfill my Gilman Scholarship Proposal Project. The Study Abroad in China was from Brooklyn College from May 31st – June 28th 2017 with a total of 28 students and 2 professors. The more students there are, the more classes are offered. This time around 2 classes were offered: Beginner Chinese and Development of the Silk Road. This Study Abroad program visited 7 different cities in China: Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing, Suzhou, Huangshan and Shanghai.
There should be about 2 or 3 more videos left of this project.
A big and special THANK YOU to all those who let me use their photos (especially Nick) and or videos. As well as a huge THANK YOU to our professor on the trip Professor Lu & Professor Huang who took great care of us.
This was honestly one of the best decisions I have ever made and I am incredibly thankful to the Gilman Scholarship Program for being able to fund my journey and allowing me to experience this.
Feel free to contact me about any questions through the comment section of this video or through my e-mail keyabari04@gmail.com.
