Wansfell Pike & Wansfell from Ambleside 11th July 2018
A short walk up to Wansfell Pike & Wansfell from Ambleside in the Lake District. At just under 1600ft they both have fine views over Windermere, Ambleside and the Lake District. A range of fells can be seen including the Coniston Fells and the fells in Great Langdale. We were staying in Keswick for the night and wanted a short walk as this was the day of the England world cup semi final. This walk gave us enough time to be at the pub in Keswick for the match that night.

Wansfell Pike and Troutbeck Walk from Ambleside
Click here: for the full 25 minute video (including OS map and printable walk directions) - A very popular circular walk from Ambleside, through the picturesque Skelghyll Woods and past Jenkin Crag viewpoint before striding out along Robin Lane to head down to and through the charming village of Troutbeck. A climb out of Troutbeck along Nanny Lane affords excellent panoramic views. Once the lane is left behind, a path heads up to the summit of Wansfell Pike. There is often confusion with people calling the peak Wansfell, but Wansfell (a 'Wainwright fell') lies about one mile to the North-East of Wansfell pike along the wide ridge emanating from Caudale Moor. The summit views are magnificent and very wide ranging with no nearby taller fells to foreshorten the views. From the summit head steeply down in to Ambleside with views towards the Scafells and Langdales ahead over Ambleside. A small diversion can be made to Stockghyll Force before heading back along the road through Ambleside to the car park. If your knees are better suited to walking up steep slopes rather than down them, the walk can easily be done in reverse.

Lake District Walks :Wansfell pike
A beautiful walk from the bustling town of Ambleside, to the peaceful village of Troutbeck, over Wansfell Pike. The walk shows the contrast between the fellside terrain on the western slopes of Wansfell, with Ambleside at it's foot, and the beautiful troutbeck valley, with it's genuine vernacular architecture. The walk returns via Skelghyll Woods.
Lake District Hikes: Lake Windermere & Ambleside Walks (ft Wansfell Pike)
Experimental short film on the Lake District shot while hiking around Lake Windermere, more precisely the walks around Bowness-on-Windermere, Ambleside and Wansfell Pike.
We loved hiking around the forest (I should say getting lost) then finding the lake again, rowing across Lake Windermere, climbing peaks etc. Definitely a must see destination for all walkers, hikers and nature lovers !
This video was graded using James Millers's Deluts for GH4 as well as Adobe Premiere's new Lumetri Color. All the shots being handheld, they were then stabilised with Warp Stabiliser.

A hike up Wansfell Pike, Troutbeck, and Skelghyll Wood - my first Vlog
My first attempt at a vlog (please be kind!).
The Android App I talk about is LocusMap:
There are various walking sites that provide GPX files for their suggested routes e.g.
Shot most of the footage on a Canon EOS M3 using a monopod with the odd clip on my Samsung S7 and Yi Action cam. And yes I know I need an external mic and a deadcat - I'm saving up!! I'd also love a steadicam / gimbal but that's probably some way off.

Wansfell Pike
1½ miles east of Ambleside in the English Lake District lies Wansfell, a Wainwright, and a perennial favourite walk for visitors to this Lakeland town. The most popular of its two summits, with a glorious view over Windermere, is Wansfell Pike, although highest point of the fell is Baystones. Join Neil an a bright October day, as he visits both summits.
The Second Edition of Wainwright's The Far Eastern Fells notes, the recognised summit of Wansfell is marked by a slender tapering cairn about four feet high, but the 2½ map shows a spot height farther north, beyond the fence and broken wall, which suggests that this is the highest point.
One of our commenters, Andy Beck (youtube.com/user/AndyBeckTeesdale) notes that The highest point of the fell (Wainwright's Wansfell) is exactly where he marked it at GR: NY40314 05143 486.9m / 1597ft at the cairn south of the wall. The point that you define as the highest point is actually 0.83m lower and is a Birkett and Synge but not a Wainwright top.
To be safe, Neil did both!

We Parked the car at church bridge then walked through Troutbeck . The weather was very typical of Lakeland from sunny spells, hail, snow and strong winds. A perfect way for Chris to spend his 50th Birthday

Wansfell Pike - Lake District Mountain Biking
A tidy loop for any time of the year, although best on a clear day to take in the stunning views from the top of Wansfell.
Park at Troutbeck (NOT Troutbeck bridge), take the Robin Lane (starts at Troutbeck Post Office) bridleway all the way to Ambleside. Take the cheeky left through Dovenest wood if fancy a bit 'off piste' riding, but be careful..it is a footpath. Head into the centre of Ambleside, taking a right up Stockghyll lane to the start of Wansfell. From there it's a hike a bike all the way to the top to enjoy the view. Then hold on tight for a top technical descent back down to Troutbeck!
