Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Saskatchewan, Canada
Wanuskewin Heritage Park is three miles north of Saskatoon. The word, Wanuskewin, is Cree for seeking peace of mind. Within the park is an interpretive center that tells the 6,000-year-old story of the Northern Plains people, by beautifully showcasing the indigenous culture in Saskatchewan. Wanuskewin also contains 19 pre-contact sites, all clustered within half a mile of each other. The Northern Plains Indians gathered here for thousands of years, hunting bison and gathering food to escape the winter winds.

Wanuskewin was founded in the late 1980's, by Dr. Ernie Walker - an archaeologist who recognized the historical value of this site. Today, the Wanuskewin Heritage Centre provides several programs for both children and adults to learn more about the culture, history, and heritage of the First Nations people.
