War Horse, which has been seen by over seven million people worldwide, completes its record-breaking eight year London run at the New London Theatre on 12 March 2016. It has won 25 awards including the Tony Award for Best Play on Broadway. Directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, Nick Stafford's adaptation of Michael Morpurgo's remarkable story of courage, loyalty and friendship, about a young boy called Albert and his horse Joey, set against the backdrop of the First World War is the most successful play in the National Theatre's history. It features ground-breaking puppetry work by South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company, which brings breathing, galloping horses to live on stage.
War Horse received its world premiere on 9 October 2007 at the National Theatre, where it played for two seasons before opening at the New London Theatre in March 2009. Since then, War Horse has been seen in 97 cities in 10 countries, including productions on Broadway, in Toronto and Berlin, with touring productions in the UK and Ireland, North America, the Netherlands and Belgium. A Chinese-language production opened in Beijing last year, and is currently running in Shanghai.
Michael Morpurgo said: 'After a few months rest, out at pasture, Joey, the War Horse and his great team from the National Theatre, will be touring the UK again, from 2017 through to 2018 and the centenary of the end of the First World War, taking their show all over the country, to towns and cities, many of them places War Horse has not been seen before. I am so pleased this is happening; that so many more people will have the chance to enjoy this unique theatrical event. Steady boy, steady Joey. Trot on!'
War Horse is directed by Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris, designed by Rae Smith, with puppet direction, design and fabrication by Basil Jones and Adrian Kohler for Handspring Puppet Company, lighting by Paule Constable, and movement and horse choreography by Toby Sedgwick, with video design by Leo Warner and Mark Grimmer for 59 Productions, songmaker John Tams, music by Adrian Sutton and sound by Christopher Shutt.
War Horse is produced on tour by the National Theatre.

The 'War Horse' Tank | The Tank Museum
The Tank Museum has obtained the tank used in Steven Spielberg's new World War One blockbuster Warhorse.
The fully operational replica of a British Mk IV tank is set to go on display when the film is released next week, and will also be used in the Dorset based Museum's tank displays later in the year.
The full sized replica was based on the Museum's own Mark IV, which was built in 1917. OSCAR award-wining special effects company Neil Corbould Special Effects LTD, whose credits include Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator, visited The Tank Museum in 2010 to take measurements from the vehicle and copy original documents related to the MK IV tank held in the Museum's Archive.

UK - William and Kate attend London premiere of War Horse / Duchess of Cambridge's first solo pub
(19 Mar 2012) On January 8th 2012 Britain's Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, went to the UK premiere of his new film War Horse in London.
The former Kate Middleton turns 30 on January 9th but palace officials say her birthday celebrations will be a low-key and private affair.
Also in attendance at the red-carpet event was the film's equine star, Joey, who trotted his way down the red carpet and posed for photographers.
War Horse tells the story of the friendship between an English farm boy and his clever horse, Joey, set against the backdrop of the Great War.
The past year has seen momentous changes for Kate, with a fairytale wedding to Prince William, travels around the world and glamorous appearances that marked her transition from commoner to the world's most talked-about princess and style icon.
The newlyweds, who live in a remote corner of north Wales, are said to favour a quieter life after the massive global media coverage of their April wedding.
But the couple has a busy year ahead with Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, which will involve numerous events throughout Britain and the Commonwealth, peaking in a major celebration in London in early June.

On February 8th Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge - formerly known as Kate Middleton - attended the royal preview of a retrospective of the work of artist Lucian Freud at Britain's National Portrait Gallery.
The duchess, wife of Prince William, is a patron of the National Portrait Gallery and this event marks her first solo public engagement as a royal.
Freud was the most renowned British portrait painter of the 20th century.
The artist, who died in July 2011 at age 88, approached the human body the way his psychoanalyst grandfather Sigmund Freud approached the mind - determined to unmask its secrets.
The exhibition features more than 100 paintings completed over 70 years, many of them nude studies of the artist's friends and family.
Lucian Freud: Portraits is open to the public until May 27th, then moves to Fort Worth in the United States.
As she visited, the gallery confirmed that the duchess will pose for a portrait in the near future, though no decision has been made on which artist will be commissioned.

On March 15th the Duchess of Cambridge showed off her hockey skills while visiting the British team at the Olympic Park in Stratford, London.
After touring the newly-laid Olympic hockey pitch, the Duchess swapped her heels for trainers and joined the players in training.
The 30-year-old, who once captained her school hockey team, impressed Britain's best with her ball striking ability.
At the end of the session, the British women's captain presented the Duchess with a team shirt.
Kate Walsh encouraged Catherine to wear it while supporting the team at this year's London Olympics.

On March 19th the Duchess of Cambridge made her first ever public address, during a visit to a children's hospice in Ipswich, eastern England, run by a charity of which she is patron.
Her visit marked the official opening of The Treehouse, a new hospice run by the UK charity EACH (East Anglia's Children's Hospices).
The Treehouse serves the counties of Suffolk and Essex in the eastern region of England, known as East Anglia.
Speaking to the children and staff, the Duchess said she was sorry her husband, Prince William, could not attend.
He would love it here, she said.
A view of his that I share is that through teamwork so much can be achieved. What you have all achieved here is extraordinary, the Duchess added.
The Duchess toured the facilities, including a sensory room, and played percussion at a music session with some of the children.

This is the extraordinary and deeply moving true story of the million British horses who served in the 'Great War'. It is told using rare archive and testimony, combined with the latest historical research. The story begins with the mass call up of horses from every farm and country estate in the land. Brough Scott evokes the world of Downton Abbey as he tells the tale of his aristocratic grandfather Jack Seely and his beloved horse Warrior. He would become the most famous horse of the war, renowned for his amazing courage.
The British army hoped their illustrious cavalry regiments would win a swift victory, but it would be years before they enjoyed their moment of glory. Instead in a new era of mechanised trench warfare it was the heavy horses transporting guns, ammunition and food to the front line troops who were most important. Tragically a quarter of a million of these horses died from shrapnel wounds and disease. But the deep bond that developed between man and horse helped both survive the hell of the Somme and Passchendaele. Behind the lines an army of vets worked miracles to treat injured horses and keep them going.
The finest hour of the cavalry came in spring 1918 when – led by the warhorse Warrior – they broke through the German lines and helped win the war. But there was further heartache for the horses when the war came to an end. 85,000 of the oldest were sold for horse meat. Half a million were sold to French farmers to help rebuild the countryside. Only 60,000 made it back to Britain. Six black horses that survived the war together would pull the body of the unknown warrior to its last resting place in Westminster Abbey. But the most famous war horse of all to return in glory was Warrior. His story, like the million other British horses who served, should never be forgotten.
