Laos' Adventure Capital-Vang Vieng-Exploring It's BackRoads/Blue Lagoon
Vang Vieng has come a long way since it's days as party central in Southeast Asia. Once the home of major tube parties, cheap booze and readily available drugs it has started to transform into an adventure capital. After a few unfortunate deaths/drownings in the Nam Song River the police dropped in and shut down alot of the river bars. You can still find some parties and tubing here but it's not like the old days. It's a pretty chill place and you are definitely exposed to more of the everyday simple life of Laos. There's much to appreciate here from kayaking the river, exploring the caves, and grabbing a motorbike to head for the backroads. Motorbike rental places are easy to find in Vang Vieng and most will help you with directions and even give you a map so you can explore the caves and lagoons of the region. Most caves have a small admission fee, and will most often loan you a lantern. Some will have guides you can hire as well. The Blue Lagoon is a place most hear about and want to visit when they arrive in Vang Vieng. You can catch a tuk tuk out to the Blue Lagoon, or rent mountain bikes, but it will be a hot a sweaty ride out there, forget about walking-the heat is too much for most. Two or three days in Vang Vieng should be enough to capture the essence of rural life and get in an adventure activity or two-some great rock climbing here to check out. Everything here from cheap guesthouses to lux settings on the river. Vang Vieng is an easy 3-3.5 hour bus ride from Vientienne. It's a great way to split up a much longer ride from the capital to Luang Prabang as well!

89 Days - Episode 12- From Vang Vieng to Vientiane
CHAPTER TWO - Episode 12- Busrides down south Laos: From historical Vang Vieng to huge caves and finally the quietest capital of the world, Vientiane, with its empty streets and one huge market...before catching a flight to Hanoi, North Vietnam
This travel documentary takes you on a 3 month long trip with a couple of guys (and girls, too ;) through Southeast Asia. The first half of the film shows a rather touristic point of view, and as the journey continues and the environment gets tougher, the second half has an adventurous kind of touch.
Follow them on their tracks starting in more or less developped places, and big cities such as Singapore or Malaysia, island hopping in Thailand (including the Full Moon Party), eating insects in Asia's Golden Triangle, smoking weed, an adventurous boattrip on the Mekong river in Laos, a rough bus trip in Vietnam, from the Killing Fields to the spectacular Angkor Wat temples in Cambodia in Tomb Raider style. Beaches, waterfalls, massages, and tropical surroundings...
Even after cutting out 75% of the filmed material of this roadtrip diary, the film still has 162 min. To make viewing more enjoyable and by giving it a reality show character, the whole movie has been split into 17 parts to make each a separate 10 min episode.
Don't always expect perfect camera handling, etc, remember this is a non commercial low budget film taped with a camcorder. There's some at times very sarcastic dialogues, conversations and scenes full of bull; others actually do have a meaning, but mainly the pictures speak for themselves. The entire film is in english, some parts are in German, while all non-english parts are with english subtitles.
Do enjoy all 17 episodes while this journey brings the travellers to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia. May this film warm up your winter and maybe even get you into the mood for travelling.
Episodes to be released fridays and sundays right here exclusively on YouTube starting December 2009

Can't stay In space forever - Space bar Vang Vieng leaving song
You must leave space bar eventually, unfortunately.
Lyrics
You have spent the evening in space
Listening to good tunes getting off you face
Now it’s time to pay for your meal
Your drugs your beer whatever’s on your bill
You can’t stay in space forever!
It’s bad for your lungs and your liver!
So please drink up hurry the fuck up!
We shut in ten minutes don’t push your luck
If your brain isn’t sufficiently fried
There is plenty of party to be found outside
Go get some fresh air some oxygen
And we hope to see you in space again
You can’t stay in space forever!
It’s bad for your lungs and your liver!
You may be tripping seeing unicorns
but you can chase them again tomorrow morn
please leave in ten minutes don’t get crazy
Feel free to leave us your drugs and any sexy ladys
You can’t stay in space forever!
It’s bad for your lungs and your liver!
It’s time to get the fuck out space.
Apart from you sexy women wearing lace.
Keep that happy smile on your face!
There will be a sexy party at Dannies place!
You can’t stay in space forever!
It’s bad for your lungs and your liver!
If you don’t have anywhere to go
Why not got stay at easy go!
30,000 a night no bed buds to bite
Huw will hug you and keep you warm at night
Why can’t we stay in space forever
It’s bad for your lungs and your liver!
Why can’t we stay in space forever
It’s bad for your lungs and your liver!
You can’t stay in space forever!

Why does nobody visit this country? Laos Travel Guide
Laos is a real gem in South East Asia. It is beautiful, cheap, happy and relaxed. Laos has something for everyone. Night markets, elephants, lagoons to swim in, jungle trekking, caves to explore, tubing, waterfalls. What do you need to know about Laos for family travel?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in Laos:
Luang Prabang
Kuang Si Waterfall
Also see Mount Phousi for sunrise (in town) and see the morning and night market along Sisavangvong road
Vang Vieng
There are lots of epic lagoons in the area which a amazing for a refreshing dip
You can also go tubing, visit caves, an elephant sanctuary and other adventurous activities. You can also see monks taking collections around town in the morning.
Note about tubing: many of the bars along the tubing route have now been closed down.
Vientiane - capital city
This is a lovely chilled out capital city, with great food and coffee shops.
A short bus ride out of town is the Buddha park with lots of awesome statues.
Other places to see in Laos:
Head to Pakse to see 4000 islands
Lang Nam Tha to explore the north (almost on the Chinese boarder)
Plain of jars (in the East) … it is literally a plain of huge jars!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Planning a trip?
Weather - hot and dry or hot and wet. North Laos can be cool in the evenings so bring a warm layer.
The currency is Kip
Rough exchange rate: 10,000Kip = £1
Good value - not quite as cheap as Thailand and Cambodia
At present for UK citizens visa $35 and visa on arrival. At present there are no evisa options.
Top tip: Have some US dollars and passport photos to spare.
Locals do speak English in the cities but in rural areas English is less well spoken.
Slow wifi. Can get wifi in hotels and coffee shops, but not as much as Thailand.
Can get sim cards.
Accommodation: Clean and simple. Not quite as good value as Thailand and Cambodia.
£10 starting price for a simple room (simple beds and fans). There are some luxury places too. LINKS TO COME :-)
Food: Delicious, fresh, healthy. Somewhere between Vietnamese and Thai style.
Transport: Tuk tuks, bicycle (a great way to see Laos)
Longer distance: Overnight buses - not fun with a baby! Probably not that great without! Mountainous roads -not fun.
Mini-buses and day buses: You do lose time but
Pram and sling are both possible: Sling - sweaty but more maneuverable.
Safety: Beautiful, gentle, simple culture. Seems like there is less theft and scams than Thailand.
Health: Dengue and malaria are a risk in some areas. Keep your jabs up to date. Mixed reports on hospitals. If you need to go to hospital and you can, get to Bangkok. Remember to get a good travel insurance policy
Toilets: some western toilets available, most places have Asian style squatty toilets. Rare to fine proper baby changing facilities, so you many need to change your baby in random places.
Baby supplies: You can buy some baby supplies in supermarkets in the main towns. It is worth bringing some supplies if you can. The locals LOVE to give babies bananas - which make great healthy snacks.
Packing: All the normal things. Keep clothing light and make sure you have long sleeves for protection from the sun. Suncream, mosquito repellant and shampoo.
Mosquito nets: LINKS to come!
The culture is very welcoming and caring about families and always have a spare banana for a babies :-)

I’m leaving Laos
The plan was to stay a month in Laos and to explore everything. But after a few days in which we were in some dangerous situations, we lost the confidence to continue travelling and decided to leave the country. I am glad through that we got to see the Kuang Si Waterfall and find a real elephant conservation centre where we got to interact with the elephants for the first time.
Just because I didn't felt safe in Laos doesn't mean that it''s not a safe country so don't get discouraged from visiting it. Just be cautious.
Some of the things to be careful when in Laos:
1. Never leave anything valuable in your hotel room in Vang Vieng. It's very common for valuables to disappear in the Hotels/GuestHouses here. (our room was also raided while we were out to eat)
2. When taking a van expect to be left by the side of the road a few kilometres from the destination city (we were left in pouring rain at one time) and asked to pay more to get into town (we were asked to pay another 50% of the trip price)
3. Don't leave your passport as a guarantee when you rent a motorbike
4. Don't walk with your phone or money in your hand.
5. Try to conceal your valuables (money, jewellery, photo cameras) as best as you can.

360° | Tubing in Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng is known for partys and tubing. A lot of backpackers stop here on the way to Vientiane for few days. Since a lot of fatal accident occured in the past due to drunken travelers many bars were closed down. Only two are left.

Kampot River Sunset Cruise, Kampot Province Cambodia only $5 USD
Kampot Cambodia Sunset River Cruise - In this episode i'm heading off down the Kampot River in Kampot Province in Cambodia to check out the sunet over the Bokor Mountain.
All up its a 2 hours trip. We travel 1 hour down the Kampot River, fairly slowy, its a nice scenic view along the way, not to fast and quite relaxing with a few beers before tourning around to view the magnificant sunset.
I did say at the start i wanted to be on the boat with all the people, but at end of it i was happy to have shared this long tail boat with only 3 other people. Less is sometimes more.
There is plenty of cheap accommodation along the Kampot River thet attracts alot of the backpacking crowd. I spent 2 nights in the main area of Kampot Cambodia, then i checked out of Paris Guesthouse ($8 USD) and moved to the other side of the river. It's alot quieter where i am now and thats what i want and im loving it. It is low season so things are really cheap at the moment. My room now is $15USD per night.
Another thing they do on this tour is show you the fireflys. This is only the 2nd time i have seen a firefly in my life, the other time was when my mate found a single firefly at atong Merlin Hotel in Phuket Thailand. There was only 1 tree along the Kampot River that had fireflys which i though was quite amazing.
At one stage down Kampot River we pulled over, it went silent, i was taking in the scenery and about 2 minutes later i finally realised the reason the driver cut the engine was we hit a snag, the propellor had got tangled in a plant prong. Eventually the problem was fixed and we off again on our way.
I was in a really good mood, i was having a few beers, it was really peaceful, there were not many other boats around, the sun was going dow, it was warm and im crusing along the Kampot River in Kampot Cambodia, and my alarm is not set and i don't have to get up for work tommorow. Life is good!!!
For $5 USD, the Kampot River Susnet Crusie in Kampot Cambodia has to be the best value for money tour in Sth East Asia i have been on. All up it is 2 hours of your time, you get 1 free beer,
a cruise down the Kampot River and you get to take in that beutiful sunset. I highly reccomend doing this crusie if you are in Kampot Cambodia.
