Swimming in the Yarra River at Pound Bend in Warrandyte State Park in Melbourne, including a relaxing spa at the tunnel outlet, dangling my feet in the shallow pool and a thwarted attempt at panning for gold.
Pound Bend Tunnel, Warrandyte State Park, Victoria, Australia.
This tunnel was made in 1870, to divert some of the water from the Yarra River & facilitate the mining of the alluvial gold. However, costs were still very high, & the mining company went broke after 12 months...........they left a great legacy though, for during the Summer, it's a favourite swimming spot.

Warrandyte - Bushwalking Victoria
WALK: 19km | GRADE: Easy | ENVIRONMENT: Riverbanks & grassy woodland
Dog walkers, horse-riders, scooters, canoeists, kayakers, gold fossickers, naturalists; it's all here for lovers of the great outdoors.
This full day walk between Pound Bend and Blue Tongue Bend can be chopped up into segments for the time deprived walker. Pound bend is spectacular unto itself and the Warrandyte riverwalk is one of the best in Melbourne with the pooch in tow (just make sure you're picking up any doo-doos).

POUND BEND WARRANDYTE | Mat Leave Vlog 3
Welcome to my Melbourne Vlog where I document my weekly adventures on maternity leave with my squad of two boys.
This series aims to inspire mums on maternity leave and stay-at-home mums to venture outside with kids as a means to stay sane.
This week, I venture out into the Australian Bush solo with my 6-month old, Raffy, and my favourite child - Miguel (our DJI Mavic Pro). Watch as we encounter vicious kookaburras and snakes as we journey deep into the Australian wilderness.

Warrandyte
Warrandyte is a former gold mining town located in the Yarra Valley, about 45mins drive from Melbourne.
There is a beautiful river walk next to the small town, with many good cafes. The nearby Pound Bend nature park is the site of the famous Pound Bend Tunnel which was bored to divert the river to allow mining of gold on the riverbed.

Pound Bend Reserve (and the friendly ducks) at Warrandyte State Park, Victoria
Sometimes we forget that we have the most beautiful places to visit so close to home. We had a friend visit from Perth and he has been to Melbourne many times over the years but had never been to Warrandyte.
We often go for walks along the river at Warrandyte and love it.
We had gone out for lunch to Olivignia the day before followed by a couple of drinks at the Warrandyte Hotel and a meander along the Yarra River in Warrandyte.
Thinking of something to do the next day we remembered that Pound Bend is a pretty spectacular place go and a great place to take interstate or overseas visitors. It was an overcast day and a bit damp however it turned out to be wonderful place to go and walk around and take in the beautiful surroundings.
Pound Bend Reserve is located in the Warrandyte State Park, Victoria. Australia

Walking and exploring the area around the two biggest gold mines in Warrandyte state park in Melbourne Victoria.Of course the Melbourne weather took a turn for the worse and we had to make a haisty retreat.
GOLD!! Warrandyte State Park - Gold Heritage Walk (A Brief Visual Tour) [Fourth Hill, Warrandyte]
Warrandyte State Park - Gold Heritage Walk (A Brief Visual Tour). Located about 30 mins East of Melbourne towards the Yarra Valley
A reasonably easy bush and track walk that could be done in 40 mins but we saw enough interesting sites and relics that it ended up being a 6km, 2 hour trek. The whole area is covered in old gold diggings.
This video shows the mines of the are along with the Miner's Hut, Mine Shafts, Diggings & the monument marking the area where the first gold was found in Victoria that sparked the Gold Rush of the Mid 19th century.
There is a lot of info online if you go to the following site;

Exploring Some Local GOLD History at Warrandyte
A little something different in this video. I take a look at and explore some local gold related historical sights and spots l at Warrandye, Victoria...which is just down the road from me. Plus a really quick dig at the end in a somewhat special creek.
Thanks for watching. And a new prospecting video shouldn't be too far off ;)
