Then and now Description :
This presentation covers the exact same view in 1936, 2003 and 2009. It is a view of the original Alvaston Library on London Road, Derby.
Today the building that occupies this location is Lakeside community primary school which was completed in 2008.
The three images were taken..
1) Summer 1936
2) February 7th 2003
3) 2nd January 2009
I would like to thank Derby Museum & Art Gallery for allowing me to use the 1936 photograph, the other two years were taken by me.
You may find that you willl have to watch this a few times to spot all the smaller changes.
My video covers 73 years and yet in all that time those gate pillars have stayed exactly the same!
Notice that the two small Holybush trees either side of the gate are there in 1936 and have grown a lot by 2003 but they are removed by 2009.
The two trees either side DO survive and can be seen in all three photographs, getting taller in each one.
Because the photographs are higher resolution than the final video I have been able to use the pan/crop event in Sony Vegas 9 to zoom in and out of the scene, something which helps bring the images to life.

More information if you want it:
Alvaston library was founded in 1913 by the Carnegie UK Trust.
Designed by Arthur Eaton and was completed in 1916 but did not actually open until January 1920.
In 1972 it ceased to be a library, the library was relocated to Nunsfield House. The building was used as a store for Derby museum until 1978 when it was demolished.
In 2004 a new library opened at 1252 - 1254 London Road.

Saga Cruise Ship 'Saga Pearl II' her last arrival in Southampton 08/01/18
Under a very gloomy and bitterly cold morning of the 08/01/18 the Saga Cruises Ship 'Saga Pearl II' made her very last arrival in Southampton Docks for a 13:00pm berthing time at the City Cruise Terminal from her last port call of Gibraltar, after today she will be sailing from Portsmouth and Dover for the rest of this year and perhaps beyond so she will not be using Southampton anymore which is such a great shame.
This footage was filmed from Town Quay and Mayflower Park
