Warrnambool's wombat street art is a happy accident
Imagine you were practising your street art and decided to do a temp drawing as practice, only to find it had been made permanent by the guy who used to get rid of graffiti. This is the story of how the Victorian town of Warrnambool wound up with its distinctive new art. #namethewombat

Warrnambool Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum & Village at end of the Great Ocean Road - OFMD
Warrnambool - Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. Far more than expected. A real adventure into yesteryear. With plenty of attention to detail.
As Victoria's most active maritime museum, the village holds Australia's most significant shipwreck artefact collection.
Key features include the priceless Minton statue, the Loch Ard Peacock (Australia's most valuable shipwreck artefact), which was being transported in 1878 from England to Melbourne aboard the clipper the Loch Ard, bound for display at Melbourne's Great International Exhibition of 1880.
The ship ran into the cliffs at what is now known as Loch Ard Gorge, with the peacock being washed ashore two days after the wreck.
But the best part of the tour is the village.
It’s just an excellent place to spend a few hours wandering around.
The more you look, the more you see.

James Pasakos - Recent Works - Warrnambool Art Gallery
'Peeking through a Portal' is an exploration of place by a self-proclaimed outsider. Artist James Pasakos plays the role of the outsider, who, through frequent visitation forms ideas, opinions and a deep appreciation of place. The concept of viewing place through a portal, of taking a peek, had occurred to the artist when travelling to regional Victoria on holiday. To peek, or look in at something, is to not be completely immersed or not to wholly live it. In the context of viewing a place from the outside one may see just a snapshot of the real place, beautiful, pleasant, with happy memories attached, with the undercurrent and realities of the place and its people, the everyday, perhaps lurking in the background...
... 'Peeking through a Portal' shows the beauty of a place. A beauty often taken for granted by its residents, but given a new appreciation by its visitors, the outsiders. The exhibition celebrates Warrnambool, its natural and manmade beauty, its evolving landscape particularly its rugged coast.

R711 and S313 will make easy work of the line as they pick up speed and head towards the volcanic plains of Colac and Camperdown. The countryside will soon pass us by and all too soon the famous Lady Bay will come into view as we descend into the seaside city of Warrnambool.
Upon arrival in the Great South Coast, Tour options are available to add onto your fare, Why not try a sightseeing trip along the Great Ocean Road for the afternoon, perhaps head off for lunch with some fine wines at a local Winery, or how about a laid back pub tour around town --- Along with these Tour Options will be another, yet to be announced special addition to the journey.
Those who choose to go their own way in Warrnambool will have just under 5 hours to explore the town. Perhaps a visit to The Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village, or a walk through Lake Pertobe Park to the beach. Otherwise it is a short walk into the town centre of Warrnambool to find lunch, visit the Art Gallery or explore the CBD.
The local Rotary Club will have a BBQ near the station.
Departing Warrnambool at 6.50pm, Sit back and enjoy the sounds of the Steam and Diesel Locomotives working together to get the train underway. A short stop at Camperdown for train running purposes, before we make another stop just prior to Birregurra to water our locomotive and cross a normal V/Line service. With the locomotive topped up, we will begin the dash home to Melbourne, making a quick stop in Geelong at 9.50pm and arriving into Southern Cross Station at 11pm.
