A Slippery Walk To The Frozen Shores of Lake Erie EM Warwick CA

I head out on a solo day trip to check out a conservation area that I've never visited before. Driving about an hour away from home I head out for a day hike to EM Warwick Conservation Area near the town of Eagle, Ontario. The property is on 14 hectares and features group camping in cabins and a hiking trail that leads to scenic views of Lake Erie and beach access.
During this fairly warm but overcast day, I set out to see what the conservation area has to offer. With only one other vehicle in the muddy parking lot, I talk to another outdoor enthusiast about the trail and local sightings before I start my hike.
Along the way, I hear a variety of birds singing and see Tundra Swans pass overhead. Some plants were starting to appear in and among the dried leaves and woodpeckers are spotted and heard during the hike.
The views both from the top of the cliffs and along the shores of Lake Erie were spectacular and definitely worth the treacherous hike down the somewhat steep, icy and slippery trail.

Warwick Farm Log Home FOR SALE.wmv
This log home slide show is a companion to the video showing the farm, buildings, landscaping and views. That video, youtube.com/watch?v=_iL_zf4CHks is also on my channel. This video shows photos of the interior of the remodeled and modernized log home that sits on 13+ acres of a superior facility for horses.
The 3,600 sq. ft. log home has a light and airy floor plan with three bedrooms and three full baths, hardwood floors throughout. The living areas are all on one floor. All bathrooms have ceramic tile.
The master suite has numerous windows, allowing you to wake up to nothing but unspoiled views of the countryside. The master bath has a large walk in double shower with extra jets and a separate double Jacuzzi tub.
Beamed, cathedral ceiling with skylights highlight the built in bookcases, natural stone fireplace and hardwood floors of the large living room.
The large, modern kitchen has abundant cabinet space, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and breakfast/lunch counter. The kitchen and the separate, adjoining dining room open to a large flagstone patio with an electric retractable awning. The patio overlooks a large pond and open fields, which are in conservation easement and home to abundant wildlife.
The covered back porch entrance into the utility/laundry room has access to the upstairs loft and office area. The loft could be utilized as an office, craft room or bedroom.
The covered front porch has access from the living room and both guest bedrooms.
The house has separate zones with central air and heat.
There is a courtyard parking area between the house and the 3 car garage, which has electric overhead doors and multiple storage cabinets.
The landscaping is designed to blend in with the countryside.
The four stall, center aisle barn has a tack room, laundry room, feed room and tiled wash stall with hot water and fan. The barn has a fly control system and each stall has its own mounted fan and automatic drinker. The stalls are yellow pine, with custom made grills in the partitions and over the windows. The barn was designed for ease of use and safety, for which even the most discerning horseman would be pleased. Adjacent to the barn is a covered bulk shavings bin.
The two lush five acre pastures have run in sheds with fans and automatic drinkers. Large trees in both pastures provide abundant shade. A stream runs along the edge of one of the pastures.
There is a landscaped 100 x 200 irrigated, all weather chipped rubber riding arena.
There is a large two bay workshop

Over the course of a year I observe the four seasons at Coldstream C.A. located northwest of London on Quaker Rd in the tiny town of Coldstream. This park has a little bit of everything whether you want a nice peaceful picnic spot, a place to walk the dogs and the kids, a semi-rural spot to have a family reunion/camping trip or just to simply take the boardwalk hike through the watershed areas.

John R. Barber and the Credit River Dynamo
In 1854, brothers William, James, Joseph and Robert Barber, prominent manufacturers in the Credit Valley, established a paper mill here. Within a few years it had become an important producer of fine rag paper. Fifteen years later, James acquired sole ownership of the mill, soon afterwards it came under his son John's control. John Reaf Barber was an innovative manager who substantially increased the mills production by employing new technology. He equipped the mill to manufacture wood pulp and, in 1888 installed a dynamo to supply additional power. This power plant was reputedly the first in Canada to produce hydro-electric power for use in industrial production. The stone ruins of the dynamo building are still standing, about three kilometres downstream.

After being on the trail for a few hours we finally complete it. What did we learn? Malcolm is defiantly not at the same level as Patrick and I (Chase) with the additional disadvantage of the oldest and heaviest bike in our group. As for myself we now know that I am a horrible judge of capability and should probably be the last person to ask when in need of guidance.
With the groups goal to get Malcolm as fit as Patrick and myself we might be able to do this trail again in the spring without even walking a single hill.
