Washpen Falls
Took a day off for some recreation, tree bathing and waterfall meditation. Here are some photos I took on the beautiful Washpen Fall walk near Darfield in Canterbury, New Zealand. I set the photos to a Christmas track that I recently played guitar on, it features the wonderful and beautiful vocals of the multi platinum artist Yulia Townsend. Please take a moment to look at her website:

WASHPEN WATERFALLS
Described as ‘a pocket of paradise where moa once roamed’, Washpen Falls is a conservation project that started 80 million years ago with a major volcanic blow. The eruption created a deep canyon and gorges at Washpen Creek at the southern end of the Malvern Hills.

Washpen Falls - Trail Vlog and Review
Thanks so much for watching. I hope you found this video entertaining. My camera died just as I clicked my fingers at the end, hence the sudden ending.

I just want to explain a little bit about these vlogs/trail reviews - If you are interested then keep reading below. :)
There are heaps of vloggers out there, all over the world doing all sorts of crazy and exciting things. I love watching vlogs and travel videos they are so interesting an exciting, there's a sense of exploration (especially in the travel vlogs). I wanted to try my hand at it. So I thought to myself How can I ease myself into being comfortable vlogging in a way that I've never seen anyone else do before.. The result, this. Trail vlogs and reviews.
WASHPEN FALLS
This was an awesome trail, it took us about 3 hours and that's including us stopping every few steps to take some photos or some more footage. It is quite a way down a gravel road and when you arrive there is this sort of grassy area to park your car. We went inside the wee office where we made our donations and were greeted by one of the owners. He was great, told us a bit about the track and gave us some pamphlets with some more information on them. The track was good, a wee bit slippery in some areas due to mud, but that is to be expected and we were told that it would be a bit slippery before we started off on our journey. There are wonderful views all along the track and we loved how the track wasn't all the same, you walk through all sorts of different terrains. It wasn't an overly challenging trail, though some parts were at a steady incline. We had a great time catching up while exploring this trail, we would definitely recommend!

Day 1 - Darfield Coffee
Much background work has gone into the development of my dream. I want to change up how we do coffee in New Zealand and give a great customer experience to all. But being a 'busy dad' providing for a young family has been holding me back, keeping me in a sense of entitlement that won't let me feel the joy and enrichment of living in the moment. Today a decision was made for change, here we go people see this train kick off, woo.

A HIDDEN GEM of New Zealand | Travel Vlog
This weeks vlog I went to Washpen falls in the South Island of New Zealand. Its really off the beaten track and not somewhere that I had heard of before I arrived in Christchurch. It really is a stunning place to visit and the views you get on the hike are amazing!

4 September 2010 Darfield NZ Earthquake (Mw7.1)
Simulation of the 4 September 2010 Darfield Earthquake (Mw7.1). The simulation was performed by the Bradley research group at the University of Canterbury using UC's BlueGeneP Supercomputer (part of the NZ eScience Infrastructure, NeSI). This particular animation illustrates the ground shaking in the North-South direction (Northward shaking positive, Southward negative).
Key physical phenomena include:
1. The rupture in the Darfield earthquake of multiple fault planes leads to a complex ground motion in the immediate near-fault region.
2. Strong directivity occurs to the West on the Hororata fault segment and to the East on the Greendale fault segment. Most notably, this produces significant focusing of energy eastward toward Christchurch city
3. The trapping of ground motion energy in the Canterbury sedimentary basin is evident in the significantly longer duration and higher intensity of ground shaking in the basin as compared to the near by Banks Peninsula and Southern Alps / Canterbury High Country.
4. The focusing of energy due to the fault directivity couples with the sedimentary basin to produce what is known as directivity-basin coupling, leading to relatively strong ground motion amplitudes in central Christchurch.
5. It should be noted that this simulation does not explicit model nonlinear soil response and liquefaction, however, it can be appreciated that the longer duration and higher intensity of shaking as a result of the above phenomena increase the propensity of liquefaction in highly susceptible soils such as those found in eastern Christchurch
