Pon's Overseas University Fund Raising Campaign
Help Pon make a big change to his community and his country, make the donation from here
Warmest and respective greetings from Angkor Kids Center, a remote community center for community development in Samroung village, Siem Reap, Angkor, Cambodia!
This is Samnang, the center initiator, and project director at Angkor Kids Center.
This is a great pleasure and meaningful occasion for me to be presented on this video clip to introduce a new and important campaign.
Pon, is our active volunteer for years who has been selected by the exchange scholarship program of a university in Thailand after his graduation from high school under the coordination of his governmental teacher.
Pon's quote Hi everybody, my name is Pon. I am 22 years old. I'm living in Samroung village, Liengdai commune, Angkor thom district, Siem Reap province, in Cambodia. I live in the poorest family with 5 people, grandmother, mother, 2 brothers and I (me). I started to study in 2001 when I was 10 years old after my father's death. During I had been a student I did a lot of volunteer work like Plan Organization, Youth Council of Cambodia Organization, that I was the club leader of youth and child support team that we worked a lot with the youth and children like workshop about child right, leadership, environment, cleaning campaign, and more than that I work for Cambodia Center for Study and Agriculture Development that I work a lot with farmers because I am the representative. When we have the skills from agriculture from Cambodia Center for Study and Agriculture Development, I always bring everything that I have to share to the community especially the farmers in community. More than that, I am a volunteer in Angkor Kids Center with English Teacher and the Green Project Coordinator, that when I have some skills from more organizations I always share everything to the children and youth in the community.
It is my dream, I want to achieve my goal in the agriculture because in the future I want to be a professional farmer in agriculture because..erm...it is my goal and I have opportunity to have a scholarship in Thailand for 4 years.
Not entirely because of the scholarship that made Pon decided to study in a university in Ubon Ratchathani city in Thailand, but because of the quality in education on the field of Agriculture and the life is not difficult in looking for job to do after the first six months, this is the information that he got from a friend who is studying there in the engineering.
Even if the scholarship has been granted, but nothing is all free, Pon will have to cover the following cost to start his university life in October 2013.
1- Passport Extension : USD25.00
2- Admission Coordination Fee : USD700.00
3- Travel Siem Reap to Ubon : USD50.00
4- School Uniform : USD40.00
5- Living Cost for first 6 months: USD1,450.00
6- School Material (books, and other documents) : USD60.00
7- Laptop : USD450.00
Total: USD2,775.00
This is the best possible cost for Pon, since he has already got passport and the admission coordination fee is a special and favorable fee as normally applicants pay upto more than USD1,000.
This is a really great and rare opportunity for Pon, if there would be a chance, he promises to make a change for his life, AKC and his community which almost entirely living depending on agriculture.
Pon's quote After I graduated in the agriculture course in Thailand, I will come back to my community and have and bring everything that I have learned from agriculture course to help my community because I think most of the people in Cambodia more than 80 percent are farmers, but they don't have enough techniques of farming, so they just do follow their ancestors 'culture from one to one year, so nowadays still be poor. If I get a scholarship to study in Thailand actually, I will bring everything that I have to help them, to help my community, especially Cambodia, it is my country for the people... and then I think most of them don't understand about the way to increase the production of farming like the way to make compos fertilizers, making germination of young trees, especially rice. So I hope one day my dream will come true. Thank you!
Since we have learned that having Pon going to do agriculture in a qualified university oversea is very important for us, as one who care about the environment, nature and sustainable development, I am calling for your support from all around the world to help fill the campaign by the end of September 2013.
