Chalong Temple Wat Chalong
Join me as we first take a look around the very well known Chalong Temple ( Wat Chalong ) on the island of Phuket, this temple dates back to 1837.
The temple is a very striking landmark with its 60 metre Chedi which holds a splinter of bone from lord buddha which also makes it the most important temple out of all the 29 Buddhist temples on the island.
It's not surprising this beautiful temple receives a lot of tourists every year and there is also a very special market which takes place just once a year for 8 days within the temples grounds.

Wat Chalong Temple | Sightseeing Phuket Day Trip 4K
The most visited Wat Chalong temple is also the largest of Phuket's temples.
Wats - or Buddhist temples - are among the most important symbols of Thailand because the majority of Thais are Buddhist. Wat Chalong built at the beginning of the 19th century.
Wats in general are sacred places for the local people, so it is wise to visitors to watch and to emulate the way Thais behave inside temples. Women are required to cover their shoulders and wear pants or skirts that extend down to their knees.
Certain level of respect is expected. Speak in a quiet tone and don’t touch the statues or other Buddhist relics.
Shoes are never allowed inside the Wat Chalong temple, so be sure to leave yours outside with all the others.
Sightseeing Phuket and especially temples - it’s not only for worship Buddha - it’s also a good place to relax, to spend a day in the shadows of big trees and beautiful flowers.

Visiting Wat Chalong Temple Phuket Thailand Vacation Days
The most important of the 29 buddhist temples of Phuket is Wat Chalong (Thai: วัดฉลอง) or formally Wat Chaiyathararam (Thai: วัดไชยธาราราม), located in the Chalong Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District. It is dedicated to two highly venerable monks, Luang Pho Chaem (หลวงพ่อแช่ม) and Luang Pho Chuang (หลวงพ่อช่วง), who led the citizens of Chalong Subdistrict fighting against the Chinese rebellion in 1876 and with their knowledge of herbal medicine helped the injured.
The large market at Wat Chalong extends into the grounds of the temple and features amplified pop music and Thai-fighting advertisements. The temple sells trinkets to visitors and the monks assist by storing boxes of items in their main prayer hall.
Wat Chalong, or Chalong Temple, built at the beginning on 19th century, Its real name is Wat Chaiyathararam, but you probably won't see it on any road signs. Wat Chalong ( Chalong Temple ) is the largest of Phuket's temples, and the most visited. Locals and many Thai tourists come to pray and pay respects to several revered monks who were the founders of Wat Chalong, among them Luang Pho Cham and Luang Pho Chuang, 2 monks, who led the citizens of Chalong Sub district fighting against the Chinese rebellion in 1876 and with their knowledge of herbal medicine helped the injured.
The most recent building on the grounds of Wat Chalong is a 60 meters tall 'Chedi' sheltering a splinter of bone from Buddha. Walls and ceilings are decorated with beautiful painting illustrating the life of Buddha, as well as many donated golden statues. Wat Chalong Chedi is built on three floors so feel free to climb all the way to the top floor terrace to get a nice bird view on the entire temple grounds.
Dress Code & Behaviour
As with all Buddhist temples, there is a strict dress code that must always be followed.
1. Shoes are never allowed inside a temple, so be sure to leave yours outside with all the others.
2. Women are required to cover their shoulders and wear pants or skirts that extend down to their knees.
3. Certain level of respect is expected, Speak in a quiet tone within the temple and don’t touch the statues or other Buddhist relics.
How to get to Wat Chalong:
From Kathu pass Central Festival heading towards Chalong & Rawai. Drive along Chaofa Road ( West ) and it’s about 5 km from Central Festival on the left side of the road and is well indicated.
Open Hours:
Daily 07.00 AM – 05.00 PM

Jalan-jalan ke Dry Food dan Wat Chalong di Phuket, Thailand. What an experience!
Phuket City Travel Guide l Big Buddha l Wat Chalong Temple l Karon View Point l Promthep Cape
Phuket City Travel Guide
This is my trip to Phuket, Thailand. Phuket is among the world’s finest beach destinations, with fine white sands, nodding palm trees, glittering seas and lively towns. It has something for any taste and budget, with hundreds of hotels to choose from, a wide choice of dining and partying options.
- Karon View Point
Karon Viewpoint (which used to be Kata viewpoint) is one of the most frequented viewpoints in Phuket. From here, it is possible to take in views of Kata Noi, Kata Yai and Karon beaches. Located between Nai Harn and Kata Noi beaches, the viewpoint is busy most days of the year and is a staple of many tour itineraries.
- Karon Beach
Karon Beach features the third-longest beach on Phuket Island. Located on the west coast, between Patong to the north and Kata to the south, Karon Beach is the one of the most popular holiday destinations in Phuket. The beach itself has excellent snorkelling (and even diving) spots at its southern end and is wide enough for beachgoers to never feel crowded.
- Promthep Cape
Promthep Cape is one of the island's most photographed and perhaps best-known locations. Every evening, large tour buses, scooters and private cars sweep through Rawai Beach and up the island's southernmost hill in order to watch the sunset at its peak
- Big Buddha
The 45-m. marble Buddha statue on a mountaintop offers panoramic views, a cafe & gift shop.Phuket's Big Buddha is one of the most important and revered landmarks on the island. The huge image sits on top of the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata and, at 45 metres tall, can be seen from as far away as Phuket Town and Karon Beach.
- Wat Chalong
The most important of the 29 buddhist temples of Phuket is Wat Chalong or formally Wat Chaiyathararam, located in the Chalong Subdistrict, Mueang Phuket District. Wat Chalong has been extending a warm welcome to visitors for over a century. Locals come to pray and Westerners come to learn something about Buddhism.

Phuket's Best Market not to be missed at Wat Chalong
Join me as we take a look at probably the best market on the island of Phuket this very special market takes place just once a year in the grounds of the beautiful Wat Chalong temple normally taking place around the beginning February and running for just 8 days.
The goods on offer are wide and varied from home, garden, clothing and of course food however it does not stop there, there's also a host of entertainment on offer including a large free concert, free traditional Thai dance show and even a funfair for the kids.
If you happen to be on the island at the start of February then this market is not to be missed great for solo travellers, group and families alike with people travelling from another province in Thailand to sell all kinds of different food you wouldn't normal find in Phuket.
This is well worth a look........

After getting settled in Phuket, we rented a car and hearded out for a small roadtrip to explore the island.
Our fist stop was not really planed, I knew Wat Chalong was in this area, but didn't know if we would make the stop.. and had no expectations. So when we passed it on the road I was so surprised at how beautiful it was, I made Morten pull over and make a not so legal maneuver to go back:)
The Wat Chalong Temple is absolutly stunning, I can see why it is so poplular. It has bright red and blue colors and a massive amount of gold and glitter.
The Wat Chalong Temple grounds are so tranquil.. if you don't count the firecrackers going of every 5 minutes.. ha ha.
The Beach we went to was Kata Beach. It was a great place.. I have to say though, that the waves were high and powerful, so if you are not a seasoned swimmer or a kid I wouldn't like it. Just if you are planning to go with kids:) Otherwise it is great:)

Wat Chalong Temple, Phuket
Wat Chalong Temple.
Wats - or Buddhist temples - are among the most important symbols of Thailand, partly because the majority of Thais are Buddhist and partly because they are so beautiful. In Phuket alone, there are 29 Buddhist temples spread around the island.
Wat Chalong has been extending a warm welcome to visitors for over a century. Locals come to pray and Westerners come to learn something about Buddhism. The temple is open from seven in the morning to five in the afternoon.
What to See at Wat Chalong
Poh Than Jao Wat is one of the more important Buddhist statues in Wat Chalong. It is located in the westerly old hall of the temple, with two statues of an elderly gentleman called Ta Khee-lek (grandpa Khee-lek), a famous local who won many lotteries after consulting the Poh Than Jao Wat statue. Another statue in this hall is called Nonsi.
One of the temple's halls features a gilt-covered statue of Luang Poh Cham and this busy hall also contains statues of Luang Poh Chuang and Luang Poh Gleum, all ex-abbots of the temple. Car rent in Phuket #cars #auto #moto #4youautomanija
Wat Chalong Phuket Thailand - Education Abroad Asia
This is a video detailing the Wat Chalong Buddhist Temple in Phuket, Thailand. Of the many temples found on Phuket Island, the Wat Chalong temple is the largest and most revered. The temple complex was built in its current location in 1837. Watch it in 1080P for the best quality. An Education Abroad Asia Production.
Some remains of older structures have been found, however it is unknown exactly how old they are. The large grounds of Wat Chalong, which is officially named Wat Chaitararam contains a wiharn, a mondop, a ubosot, and a chedi containing a secret relic, a sala, and a crematorium.
Wat Chalong (วัดฉลองหรือวัดไชยธาราราม) is where stands the cast statue of Luang Pho Cham, who helped the people of Phuket put down the Angyee, or Chinese Coolie Rebellion, in 1876 during the reign of Rama V. There are also statues of Luang Pho Chuang, and Luang Pho Kluam, abbots of the temple during later times.
Wat Chalong’s official name is Wat Chaitararam and it is dedicated to Luang Poh Cham, Luang Poh Chuang, and, Luang Poh Kluam, former abbots of the temple.
Near Wat Chalong, sits the Big Buddha, which is detailed in this video production we made:

I'm finally getting around to uploading my Phuket Vlog. In June I got to visit Big Buddha and Wat Chalong which are beautifully located in Phuket and quite close to one another. Being a buddhist, it was a beautiful and special moment for me to be able to see the Big Buddha and just being in a wonderful Thailand. Wat Chalong is the biggest temple in Phuket and there is no entry fee for Wat Chalong or Big Buddha. The beautiful thing about tourism in Thailand is that most places are free and Thai people are such kind and helpful people. Please visit Big Buddha and Wat Chalong if you are ever in Phuket!
