Wat Chetuphon and Wat Chedi Si Hong, Sukhothai
Wat Chetuphon and Wat Chedi Si Hong are located some 2 kilometers south of the Historical City of Sukhothai. The are adjacent to each other. Wat Chetuphon features the remains of a large standing Buddha Image in a mandapa. At Wat Chedi Si Hong there are some still splendid remains of stucco decorations around the stupa. The two temples are the most interesting of the sites located south of Sukhothai.

Sukhothai historical park, Wat Mahathat, Thailand 2007
Wat Mahathat or Mahathat Temple (Thai วัดมหาธาตุ) is the most important and impressive temple in Sukhothai Historical Park. The temple’s name translates to “temple of the great relic”. The temple was founded by Sri Indraditya, between 1292 and 1347 as the main temple of the city as well as the Sukhothai Kingdom.
The Sukhothai Historical Park (Thai อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์สุโขทัย) covers the ruins of Sukhothai, which literally means Dawn of Happiness, capital of the Sukhothai kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries,in what is now the north of Thailand. It is located near the modern city of Sukhothai, capital of the province with the same name.

Travel Notes:
- Filmed 11th February 2018 and 1st March 2018.
- On both trips we travelled to Sukhothai via songthaew from Kamphaeng Phet Bus Station.
The Sukhothai Historical Park is divided into multiple zones each with its own entry fee (around 100 baht each).
- There are bicycles for rent near the entry to Wat Mahathat. This is a great way to get around this main zone.
- The hike in Ramkhamhaeng National Park to Pha Na Rai Peak ended up taking a bit over two hours. Quicker on the way down.
- I understand Pha Na Rai Peak is a great spot for viewing the sunrise. There is a campsite near the peak.

Wat Na Phra Meru | Oldest Buddha Temple in Ayutthaya | Amazing Thailand Part 5 | Bangkok
Wat Na Phra Meru or Men, Ayutthaya, Thailand
Literally the name of this temple means : the temple in front of the royal pyre. Royal prisoners (after being executed) were apparently cremated on the grounds. Wat Na Phra Men was built during the later Ayutthaya period.
The temple was constructed during the reign of King Ramathibodi II (1491-1529), the 10th king of the Ayutthaya Suphannaphum / Suphanburi dynasty in 1503 and received the name Wat Phra Meru Rachikaram. Wat Phra Meru occupied a prominent place in front of the Royal Palace. As its name indicates, it must have been established at a Royal cremation area.
Most temple Ubosoths of that period have been destroyed and only the base, with some walls, and supporting pillars remain. Often the ubosoths built during that time were quite large and impressive. The ubosoth of Wat Na Phra Men, though restored during the reign of King Rama III, give a good impression of how Ayutthaya temples and ubosoths of the late Ayutthaya period must have looked like.
The principal Buddha image at Wat Na Phra Men is seated in the 'subduing Mara' position, and wears royal attire. Its full name is : Phra Buddha Nimitr Vichit Maramoli Sisanpeth Boromtrailokanat. Buddha images were royal attire like this are typical for the later Ayutthaya period.

Thailand - Bangkok - Wat Pho (วัดโพธิ์)
Wat Pho (วัดโพธิ์), or Wat Phra Chetuphon (วัดพระเชตุพน), the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is the oldest and largest Buddhist temple in Bangkok.
The highly impressive gold plated reclining Buddha is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, and is designed to illustrate the passing of the Buddha into nirvana.
The large grounds of Wat Pho contain more than 1000 Buddha images in total, most from the ruins of the former capitals Ayuthaya and Sukhothai.

Wat Na Phra Men, Ayutthaya
Wat Na Phra Men (also often written as Wat Na Phra Meru) in Ayutthaya contains some historic and unique Buddha Images. There is a splendid image in the Ubosoth in typical Ayutthaya style (with royal attire). A separate Viharn houses a tall Dvaravati-style Image, called Phra Khantharat.
