HanChey Pagoda Kampong Cham Cambodia.flv
Wat Hanchey is an ancient hilltop pagoda dating from the 8th century from where one can enjoy offers some of the bestviews of the Mekong River. Wat Hanchey was an important centre of worship during the Chenla period.
As far upstream as we can navigate due to constraints of time and water levels, Wat Hanchey is a fascinating complex of temples from all periods of Khmer art history.
Also of interest here is an Angkor period temple situated at the foot of the hill 500 meters from our mooring position up the main highway. This temple has been well restored. The monks have started a museum of old Khmer agricultural and domestic implements that can be viewed in a caged hut close to where the main flight of steps opens onto the hill top.
Wat Hanchey is a beautifully situated hilltop pagoda that overlooks the Mekong River. The hill sits next to a river bend with a huge island in the middle of the river. The view of the Mekong is outstanding from the top and must be one of the best in Cambodia. The brick structures of Wat Hanchey date back to the 8th century. It was an important religious center during the pre-Angkor Chenla Empire period. There are many religious monuments and small building that remain spread out over the large hilltop.
Wat Hanchey is about 20km up the Mekong River from the provincial town of Kompong Cham.
The temple complex sits on top of a hill with good views of the river - when the weather is fine.
The oldest part of Wat Hanchey dates from the 7th or 8th century, before the glory days of the Khmer empire when Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom were built in the 12th century. It's a weather-worn red brick edifice but crowded all around are more recent temples, pagodas, stupas, houses and statues. The statues are weird; they depict mythical heroes and creatures, wild and domestic animals, a huge variety of fruit ...

Hanchey Bamboo Resort in Kampong Cham
We're leaving the sunflower field at Chiro village & commune in Tbong Khmum province, driving on Kizuna bridge to Krong Kampong Cham heading to Phnom Hanchey (Hanchey mountain also known as Chey Kiri mountain), along the mekong river, about 20km north of Kampong Cham town. We will visit a beautiful resort and have lunch at Hanchey Bamboo Resort. It's a beautiful resort with swimming pool, bamboo shack restaurant, and rooms. They also have yoga class and so much more. We had lunch there and walked around the resort. We wish to be there longer but we have to return to Phnom Penh city on the same day. I flew my DJI P3S capturing the landscape of Hanchey Village and Bamboo Resort. Also the drone video of sunflower field at Chiro village, Kizuna bridge, and Drone shot of Kampong Cham downtown. I wish to be back to stay at this Bamboo resort. I really enjoyed lunch foods.
In this video, i used GoPro Hero 5 Black, iPhone 6s, DJI Phantom 3 Standard.

Cambodia highlights - Wat Hanchey
- The MV Mekong Pandaw river boat cruised upstream on the Mekong River in Cambodia from Kampong Cham to Wat Hanchey. The oldest part of this temple was built in the 7th century and is on top of a 300m high hill with good views of the river when the weather is fine. Unfortunately it rained heavily while we were there so visibility was limited but the temple compound itself was large and interesting. And while we looked at the temple sights, the local children looked at we tourists!

Kampong Cham Trips - Cambodia
Kampong Cham is the capital of the province of the same name and the third largest city in Cambodia. With its Mekong River location and relatively close proximity to Phnom Penh (123km) and Vietnam, Kampong Cham has always been an important trade and transportation hub. The highway from Phnom Penh is in excellent condition-you can get here in just under two hours by road or by the bullet boats that are a main mode of transportation between towns on the Mekong River. Either way it's a nice fide, with views of the rural countryside or river area, depending on which way you go.
The town itself is quaint and charming with its bustling morning river scene and wide boulevard streets beside the river. There are a few worthwhile attractions nearby and with it's location on the way by boat or road to Kratie, Mondulkiri, Rattanakiri and Stung Treng Provinces; it's a nice jump-off point. Kampong Cham is a mix of the old and the new, with a new temple being built in and around old ruins and the big ferry boats taking people and goods to the other side of the Mekong, right next to the construction of the first bridge ever built here.
Because there is little foreign investment and no massive tourism (almost every foreigner who comes here is a backpacker), this city is quite poor with a few modern buildings, though not lacking in French architecture from the colonial period. It is similar to many other Cambodian cities, being rather dirty, with garbage a common sight. The people of Kampong Cham are very friendly and open to engaging with tourists. If recent projects seem to be improving the state of things here (relative to other Cambodian cities), remember that both PM Hun Sen and former Phnom Penh Governor Chea Sophara are originally from this province.
