Saturday Evening Market Nan Thailand August 2014
Saturday Evening Market Nan Thailand August 2014. Saturday evening market in the city of Nan used to be located at so called Walking Street, Sumon Thewarat Road, near Wat Hua Wiang Tai temple [วัดหัวเวียงใต้]. This is the market you can see on the video. In 2015 it was moved near Wat Phumin temple, where, in my opinion, it lost its charm. From what I’ve heard it was moved because of some financial issues.
At the market you can try a variety of Thai and Northern-Thai dishes, buy some clothes and all you can expect from a market in Thailand.
Little-known Nan is a very peaceful province in Northern Thailand in the remote valley of Nan River. It is about 600 kilometers from Bangkok. It borders with Uttardit, Phrae and Payao provinces and Sainyabuli Province of Laos. The province is subdivided in 15 districts: Mueang Nan, Mae Charim, Ban Luang, Wiang Sa, Na Noi, Thung Chang, Pua, Tha Wang Pha, Ma Muen, Chaing Klang, Santi Suk, Bo Kluea, Chaolem Phra Kiat, Phu Piang, and Song Khwae.
There are many interesting tourists sites - King of Nan's Teak House, Nan National Museum, Wat Phumin and more. Nan is famous for its longboat racing festival held every year in September/October.

Filipina Blogger Found the Best Temple to visit in Nan Thailand
Earth visited temples in Nan Thailand and thought the Wat Phumin Temple is the best in Nan, Thailand. It is a royal temple located in the old city called Tambon Nai Wiang and is next to the Nan National Museum. The temple was constructed in 1569 and renovated in 1867. What I love best about this temple was the painting inside the assembly hall. The mural paintings or Hup Taem depict the Buddhist Jataka stories. There are also interesting depiction of the lifestyles of the people in town during this time in the paintings. The most popular painting in the temple was the Nan Couple whisper into my ear the couple is said to be not of Nan heritage but are actually foreigners as the costume / clothes they wore in the painting reflects the popular styles in Europe during that time. This Nan couple image can be seen all over the city and is now an iconic symbol in town.

Nan
Nan (Thai: น่าน, pronounced [nâːn]) is a town in northern Thailand. It is 668 km north of Bangkok. It is in the centre of Nan Province which bears its name, and of which it is the former administrative capital. It covers the whole tambon Nai Wiang and parts of tambon Pha Sing of Mueang Nan district, an area of 7.60 km². In 2010 it had a population of 21,333.[citation needed] It is subdivided into 30 chumchon. It is spread along the Nan River's right bank. Nan is a small city, primarily devoted to commercial, administrative, educational, and hospital activities. The old heart of the city, where Wat Phumin, the national museum and other tourist attractions are located, is being restored. The city's industrial and tourist development remains limited until now, but should be improved by the complete opening of the border towards Laos and beyond towards China.
There are many tourist attraction such as Nan National Museum, Kings of Nan’s Teak House, Wat Hua Khuang, Wat Phra That Chang Kham, Wat Phumin,

SUMMARY
=======
Srivijaya (also written Sri Vijaya or Sriwijaya in Indonesian or Malay), was a dominant thalassocratic Indonesian city-state based on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia, which influenced much of Southeast Asia. Srivijaya was an important centre for the expansion of Buddhism from the 8th to the 12th century. Srivijaya was the first unified kingdom to dominate much of Malay archipelago. The rise of the Srivijayan Empire is seen to run parallel to the end of the Malay sea-faring period. Due to its location, this once powerful state developed complex technology utilizing maritime resources. In addition, its economy became progressively reliant on the booming trade in the region, thus transforming it into a prestige goods based economy.The earliest reference to it dates from the 7th century. A Tang Chinese monk, Yijing, wrote that he visited Srivijaya in 671 for six months. The earliest known inscription in which the name Srivijaya appears also dates from the 7th century in the Kedukan Bukit inscription found near Palembang, Sumatra, dated 16 June 682. Between the late 7th and early 11th century, Srivijaya rose to become a hegemon in Southeast Asia. It was involved in close interactions, often rivalries, with the neighbouring Java, Kambuja and Champa. Srivijaya's main foreign interest was nurturing lucrative trade agreements with China which lasted from the Tang to the Song dynasty. Srivijaya had religious, cultural and trade links with the Buddhist Pala of Bengal, as well as with the Islamic Caliphate in the Middle East.
The kingdom ceased to exist in the 13th century due to various factors, including the expansion of the rival Javanese Singhasari and Majapahit empires. After Srivijaya fell, it was largely forgotten. It was not until 1918 that French historian George Cœdès, of École française d'Extrême-Orient, formally postulated its existence.
