Kampong Cham City in Cambodia
Kampong Cham City is the heartbeat of Kampong Cham Province with population about 119,000 in recent year. It's about 128km from Phnom Penh city while we can travel on National Road 6 and 7 and need about 2h30min to travel on bus. It's one of the largest city in Cambodia. The park is beautiful and the market is same same as in Phnom Penh city. In this video, i just walked around the city from the the fork road park to the market and head to the Kampong Cham statue. Kampong Cham in Khmer mean waiting for someone or something. Long ago, the business people waiting to get on boat or waiting for their goods to come or doing business there. More people coming and going and become a city and recently called Kampong Cham city. There is a long and good bridge called Kizuna bridge over the Mekong River.
Your support is a huge encouragement for me as a Khmer to continue sharing the tourist attraction places in Cambodia to all Khmer and the World and bring more tourists to Cambodia.

Video with images of Wat Nokor an Angkor monument to the west of Kampong Cham at the Mekong river. The original Buddhist sanctuary dates from the twelfth century. The shrine of sandstone and laterite is part of a modern structure. Various statues and sculptures are well preserved despite the ruinous state of the sanctuary.
Wat Nokor was built out of sandstone and laterite, and dates from the last years of the reign of Jayavarman VII. It is composed of a central tower surrounded by four laterite wall-enclosures. The central tower of the temple of Wat Nokor is decorated with Buddhist scenes on the pediments. The temple complex is also believed to have been the headquarters of Jayavarman VII for a time, from where he extended his influence over nearby principalities.
The temple is the largest ancient temple complex in Kampong Cham Province. It was built of black sandstone, which causes it to stand out from other temples of the period which are often built of brick or reddish sandstone. The temple has an inscription in the temple's central pavilion. Another more modern temple of a very different style has been built over and around the original Angkorian structure creating a blend of architectural styles.
According to legend the temple was built by a king who accidentally killed his father and married his mother. The King was cast out by his father after a seer told him that his son would kill him. The son, however, did not die and returned to his kingdom not knowing that his father was the King. After quarreling on the road, the son killed the King and married his Queen who was his mother. Upon discovering his crime, the young man built Wat Nokor in penance for his crime.

Wat Hanchey is an ancient hilltop pagoda dating from the 8th century from where one can enjoy offers some of the bestviews of the Mekong River. Wat Hanchey was an important centre of worship during the Chenla period.
As far upstream as we can navigate due to constraints of time and water levels, Wat Hanchey is a fascinating complex of temples from all periods of Khmer art history.
Also of interest here is an Angkor period temple situated at the foot of the hill 500 meters from our mooring position up the main highway. This temple has been well restored. The monks have started a museum of old Khmer agricultural and domestic implements that can be viewed in a caged hut close to where the main flight of steps opens onto the hill top.
Wat Hanchey is a beautifully situated hilltop pagoda that overlooks the Mekong River. The hill sits next to a river bend with a huge island in the middle of the river. The view of the Mekong is outstanding from the top and must be one of the best in Cambodia. The brick structures of Wat Hanchey date back to the 8th century. It was an important religious center during the pre-Angkor Chenla Empire period. There are many religious monuments and small building that remain spread out over the large hilltop.
Wat Hanchey is about 20km up the Mekong River from the provincial town of Kompong Cham.
The temple complex sits on top of a hill with good views of the river - when the weather is fine.
The oldest part of Wat Hanchey dates from the 7th or 8th century, before the glory days of the Khmer empire when Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom were built in the 12th century. It's a weather-worn red brick edifice but crowded all around are more recent temples, pagodas, stupas, houses and statues. The statues are weird; they depict mythical heroes and creatures, wild and domestic animals, a huge variety of fruit ...
