Tempel WAT Praputthabat See Roi - MaeRim - Chiang Mai - Thailand.wmv
Wat Ban Den-Mae Taeng-Chiang Mai
The Wat Ban Den located North of the city is one of Chiang Mai’s most remarkable temples. It is also one of the largest temple complexes in Chiang Mai province. The complex contains a large number of structures including an ordination hall, a viharn, a meditation hall, the Kuti or monks living quarters, a drum hall and several other buildings.
Although the structures of the Wat are relatively new, they are built in traditional architectural style.
When the Wat Ban Den got a new abbot in 1988 the temple was in poor condition. The new abbot named Kru Ba Tuang has managed to raise huge sums of money, donated by local people and Buddhists from across the country. Abbot Kru Ba Tuang has completely renovated the Wat Ban Den and added a number of impressive structures.
A number of very ornately decorated all wooden structures with a blue roof and golden chofah decorating the roof ends, some consisting of multiple floors are set on a white concrete platform. Several buildings contain detailed wood carvings in traditional style showing various animals and mythological creatures.
Many of the Wat’s structures are guarded by large mythical Naga serpents on each side of the stairs. All over the temple grounds are large white lion figures called Singha in Thai, acting as guardians.
The temple complex holds 12 chedis or pagodas. According to ancient local belief when people die their spirit will stay in the chedi of their Zodiac animal sign. During their lifetime, everyone should make a pilgrimage to the temple of his Zodiac sign. Every Zodiac animal sign has an official temple in Thailand. Since some of these temples are far from Chiang Mai, abbot Kru Ba Tuang decided to build 12 pagodas in the Wat Ban Den, each one representing one of the Zodiac signs.
Although the temple complex is relatively new, it has already become an important place of worship for local people and Buddhists from all over Thailand.

Wat Phraputtabat Si Roi, Chiang Mai
Wat Phraphut Thabat Si Roi
Nestled in the hills about 50 kilometers northwest of Chiang Mai is Wat Phraphut Thabat Si Roi, a beautiful secluded temple that is often not visited by foreigners. Although construction is underway for additional temples, this is a beautiful place to visit. The story is that according to the local legend of the temple, all four of the previous Buddhas who have set foot on this Earth each visited this spot. The first, Buddha Kakusandha, left a 6 meter long footprint in stone. Many thousands of years later, the second Buddha, Konāgamana, came and left his own 4.5 meter footprint inside the footprint left by his predecessor. Many years later, the third Buddha, Kassapa, came and left his own 3.5 meter footprint on top of the other two. Finally, around 2,600 years ago, the historical Buddha Gotama supposedly came and left a 2 meter long footprint within the footprints left by the three previous Buddhas.
Now the story continues that the four holy footprints lay hidden among the trees and hills of Northern Thailand for a couple thousand years. Then, one day a heavenly being took the form of an eagle and flew down to a nearby village. There, the eagle snatched up a chicken from one of the villagers and flew off, up the mountain to the spot of the footprint. When some villagers chased the eagle to get their chicken back, they discovered the footprints and later had a temple built on this spot. (Ryan Zander)
Regardless, although the last few kilometers of road are somewhat rough, one can easily spend an hour or two wandering through the temple grounds. It makes for a nice ride up into the cooler temperatures of the hills, with scenic vistas, bamboo groves, and the beautiful temple itself.
Temples of Chiang Mai l Wat Rajamontean l Wat Suan Dok l Wat Pa Dara Phirom
Hallo:)
