KHAO KRADONG VOLCANO FOREST PARK BURIRAM
KHAO KRADONG VOLCANO FOREST PARK BURIRAM. Today we are visiting the KHAO KRADONG VOLCANO FOREST PARK, include the temple on top in BURIRAM.
Only six kilometres from the city, this extinct volcano that rises 265 meters high, was previously known as Khmer Phanom Kradong, meaning turtle shell because of its half-moon shape. The surrounding forest is home to squirrels, wild rabbits, various bird species and indigenous plants and trees like the Devil Yoni Tree found only in volcanic areas. Visitors can either drive up the massif or walk up the 297 Naga raj steps, which have Buddha statues in various poses along the way. The pool halfway at the top is said to be the mouth of the volcano and features a suspension bridge across it, while the lava rocks are proof of volcanic activity at one time. The top offers scenic views of the surrounding countryside and is also home to a large Buddha image, Phra Suphattharabophit, considered to be the symbol of Buri Ram. The ancient stupa houses a replica of the Buddha’s footprint. A nice outing for families, couples, or a group of friends.

From Buriram to Lop Buri - Thailand 4K Travel Channel
The south of Isaan was under the influence of the Khmer Empire for a long time. Thus it is not surprising that the Thailand's most beautiful monuments from this era can be found in this region.
This is the reason why we do not take the direct way to Lop Buri but drive a bend to the south near the Cambodian border. Here we visit the temple districts Phanom Rung and Prasat Muang Tam. ( separate article)
On the way from Phanom Rung to Prasat Muang Tam, we come to Prasat Kuti Rishi Nong Boa Lai, a former hospital. What remains are only the spiritual parts. The treatment and recovery rooms were made of wood and of course, weathered. During the reign of King Jayarvaman VII, one built 102 hospitals in the Khmer Empire.
In front of Prasat Kuti Rishi Nong Boa Lai, we see the first time how the rural population dries their grain. They simply spread it out on the street. Yet, one lane of the carriageway remains free for traffic.
A friendly farmer's wife even wanted to invite us to dinner, but our guide had already reserved elsewhere. In a private shrine, a family member is performing his prayer.
In Nang Rong, we stop for lunch in a nicely decorated restaurant.
At the entrance of Wat Khun Kong, wooden soldiers guard the entrance.
We continue our journey and arrive at the Lam Takhong Dam, the first pumped-storage power plant in Thailand. Here we reach the Thanon Mittraphap, the so-called Friendship Highway, built by the Americans in the 60s and 70s. It is interesting how the Americans turn the term of things into the opposite by marketing shells.
For the construction of the Friendship Highway one brutally cut a lane through the organic nature. It served to supply the warring parties in the Vietnam War with weapons. Right, and left of the highway one has founded nature reserves today. These are the Khao Yai and the Namtok Chet Sao Noi National Park. At the highest point of the street, some shops and restaurants line the street. They are more reminiscent of a western village with a saloon.
After one reaches the lowland again, one sees gigantic cement factories, presumably built for the construction of the street.
In Pak Prieo we turn north and pass through an area characterized by steep limestone cliffs.

The first shots in this set are taken from local villagers giving alms to Buddhist monks at Prasat Wat Sa Kamphaeng Noi, a very old Khmer style temple located in the countryside near Kkorat City. While this is a regular occurance at many temples, this day was the official End of Buddhist Lent so the ceremony took on some special significance. .

Phanom Rung Drone Survey Sept 14 2015
Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Wat Pa Lak Roi Temple, Non Thai District, Thailand. ( 51 )
Wat Pa Lak Roi, Nonthai. Korat.
My visit to Korat in June , 2014, brought back many memory’s for me. It was some 6 years before I visited this province before. One stop I made was at Wat Pa Lak Roi in Nonthai, about 25 kilometres outside Korat. It is not an easy temple to find, lucky I had a friend who drove me there. On arriving at this temple you may imagine you are entering a fun park with all the statues / models about the place. It may seem very strange to see because they are very graphic and some may say not suitable for children. You wonder why a temple would depict scenes like this until you evaluate the depiction.
This is my view only as I saw it. Picture the Temple raised above all these grounds, this depicts heaven and all below depicted hell and all the bad things associated with hell. You can see the same pictures in books whenever hell is shown, pain , suffering, torture. Its always the same. The statues here are graphic showing genitalia and scenes of a disturbing nature. But remember, Buddhist monks placed these here to show the bad and good of society. They are shown in a funny way by extending the models arms and legs to be taken as a symbolic way and not meant to hurt or harm the viewer. I found them amusing, even when you found some with coin slots you could feed 5 or 10 Baht into to here the moans / groans / wailing / of the tortured souls.
You could spend all day at this temple it is a very large site covering 77,000 sq. metres.. It is said it depicts the Laotian invasion of 1826 when the Korat women’s defence fought under Thao Suranaree, her statue can be seen in the centre of Korat. There are various stalls around this temple you can buy food and drink at. Along with the usual items associated with Thailand. Not many people were there on the day I visited so it was a welcome change to wander about without the usual crowds standing in front of items you want to photograph. There are plenty of parking spaces available due to the size of the grounds.
One thing I did find amusing and refreshing, was how friendly the monks were at this temple. Inviting people to check all parts of the temple and laughing and joking with me when I entered a solemn part of the temple. It made the day more interesting and showed them to be very friendly. The exhibits here are really weird but are wonderful to see, some are a bit gruesome, but they are only models. I am sure all in your family will find them amusing and not at all rude, bad or in bad taste. It does make you think about heaven and hell in a way you would never dream of before !
The province is located on the western end of the Korat Plateau, separated from the Chao Phraya river valley by the Phetchabun and Dong Phaya Yen mountain ranges. Two national parks are in the province - the Khao Yai in the west and the Thap Lan in the south. Both parks are in the forested mountains of the Sankamphaeng Range, the southern prolongation of the Dong Phaya Yen mountains. Nakhon Ratchasima, or Korat, is a large province on the north eastern plateau and acts as a gateway to other provinces in the Northeast. It is 259 kilometres ( 161 miles ) from Bangkok and has an area of around 20,494 square kilometres (7,913 sq mi), making it the biggest Thai province. The province is rich in Khmer culture and has a long history.
The area around Khorat was already an important centre in the times of the Khmer empire in the 11th century, as can be seen by the temple ruins in the Phimai historical park. Still, Nakhon Ratchasima Province is one province where there is a sizable Northern Khmer population. A new walled city with a surrounding moat, designated as Nakhon Ratchasima, was built in the seventeenth century by order of the King Narai, as the easternmost command post, guarding the Kingdom's border and supervising its Lao and Cambodian vassals. It continued this duty during the Bangkok Period, although it was seized by deceit during Chao Anuwong of Vientiane's 1826 revolt against the King Rama III of Siam.
Phra That Kong Khao Noi - ubon
Phra That Kong Khao Noi is an ancient stupa or Chedi, a structure that enshrines holy Buddhist relics. Built during the 18th-20th century in the late Ayutthaya period, the small, square brick pagoda has a distinctive spire. The middle part of the structure is ornamented with decorative doors on all four sides. A brick wall surrounds the pagoda. A sacred Buddha image is also located behind the pagoda. Legend has it that it was built by a young farmer who was repentant after murdering his mother. In a tale that aims to teach forbearance, it is said that the young farmer grew irate when a lunchbox packed by his mother seemed to have a tiny amount of rice. Furious, he killed his mother. It was only when he discovered that there was in fact so much rice he could not finish his lunch, as it was packed tightly, that he realized his folly.
The stupa is located in the rice paddies of Tambon Tatthong. It is 9 kilometers from Yasothon town. Take Highway No. 23 (Yasothon-Ubon Ratchathani Road), and turn at Km. 194. Continue for 1 more kilometer to reach the stupa.
- My travels and everyday life Between Thailand and the United States. I Have been going to Thailand one to two times a year since 2014 to see family and enjoy the beautiful Country that I was born in. I just recently received my Thai citizenship ID and Thai passport. I haven't been to Thailand since I was born until 2014. It changed my life completely. I have a lifetime of catching up to do with all my Thai family. I also decided recently to start taking video of my travels to Thailand.

Khmer-Temple near Korat Prasat Hin Phanom Wan Thailand
Seite Ausschau halten. Bei dem großem Wasserreservoir links ab. Viele Parkplätze.

Buriram volcano festival 2017
141208 Kradong Volcano Park
Khao Kradong Forest Park, formerly called in Khmer Phanom Kradong which means turtle shell from its shape, is located in Muaeng District, Buriram. It is an extinct volcano massif similar to other volcano massifs in Buriram e.g. Khao Phanom Rung Volcano Massif, Khao Angkhan Volcano Massif. Nearby popular tourist attraction is Buriram United Football Club's New i-Mobile Stadium.
Khao Kradong Forest Park, a place for relaxing, is an ancient extinct volcano with the summit at 265 meters high above the sea level. The summit has a pool which is believed to be the mouth of the volcano where you can study lava stones. It enshrines Phra Suphattharabophit, an important Buddha image of the province and inside the ancient stupa houses the replica of Buddha's footprint. There is also a suspension bridge for viewing the scenery of the volcano massif. Additionally, there are several local plant species worth studying such as the fruit of the Devil Yoni Tree, a rare plant found only in volcanic area.
You can go up the mountain either by walking up 297 steps or driving up to the massif which you will see Buddha images in various poses along the way.
