Wat Pa Phu Kon in Udon Thani
Wat Pa Phu Kon is one such temple. Located high in the mountains in Na Yung District, approximately 120 kilometers Northwest of Udon Thani city, the temple was built only a couple of years ago but has a lot to offer those willing and able to make the steep drive to visit it.
The main attraction, besides the beautiful and serene natural surroundings, is the 20-meter long reclining Buddha, which is made from 43 blocks of exquisite Italian Carrara Marble, each weighing about 15-30 tons and which was shipped to Thailand by boat. The cost of the statue, thought to be in excess of 50 million baht (about 1.5 million US dollars) was paid for by a very generous donation from an elderly woman in honour of the King.
Wat Pa Phu Kon’s splendid isolation and peaceful, natural environment makes it an ideal spot for some meditation, and numerous buildings have sprung up on the mountain to house groups of meditation enthusiasts, offering a perfect refuge for those seeking solitude and tranquility, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

This Temple took us 2 Hours to get to with A lot Sketchy Driver's and Road's to over come, But it was worth It's Weight in Gold once we arrived there. This Place was in my opinion Magical and had Breath taking View's. While I was Filming toward's the end of the Video, I saw a Monk Appear and it seemed so Surreal to Me... The Wat Pa Phu Kon was completed in 2013, it is in amphoe Na Yung district of the Udon Thani province, Ban Na Kham. 120 km from Udon Thani city,
It's bautiful architecture and stunning location are very impressive. The wat is guarded by dragon statues of marble stone. Iinside the temple is a wonderful 20 meter long reclining Buddha statue, also carved from the same precious Italian marble stone as the dragons.

Walking around Thai-Chinese Cultural Center Udonthani (Eng-EP)
This cultural center is located about 1 km. or 3 minutes from the train station which you can grab a tuk tuk or taxi to, fair is about 50 THB.
It was established on the 6 of January, 2014, preserving the arts,culture,ways and philosophy of the ancestors of the Thai-Chinese people, it s open daily from 7am – 7 pm, and free to get in.
The main idea of this place is the Moral Museum, which has excellent displays about the history of the Chinese community in Udon Thani, Chinese culture and Confucius.

Von Chiang Khan kommend, haben wir einen kleinen Umweg gemacht. Wir sind durch die Amphoe Na Yung in der Province Udon Thani gefahren und haben dort den Wat Pa Phu Kon im Ban Na Kham in Tambon Ban Kong besucht. Der Weg war extrem beschwerlich. Nicht weil die Straße bergig war und viele enge Kurven hatte, nein, es war die schlechteste Straße (2348) die ich in Thailand gesehen habe. Man konnte die Schlaglöcher nicht rechtzeitig sehen, da sie fast immer auf einer Erhöhung in der Kurve waren. Dann zog sich der schlechte Zustand kilometerlang hin. Geschätzte 50% der Straße sehr schlechter Zustand. Für Motorräder bei Dunkelheit, ist das Befahren abzuraten. Die Zufahrt zum dem Wat hat auch eine starke Steigung.
Der Wat ist 2013 fertiggestellt und hat sich schnell zu einer beliebten Pilgerstätte entwickelt. Der große, hallenartige Wihan beherbergt einen 20 Meter langen, aus Carrara-Marmor gefertigten liegenden Buddha. (Quelle: Wikipedia)

Der Chedi Prathom Rattanamahaburaphachan vom Wat Pa Phu Kon
Der Chedi, mit dem fast unaussprechbaren und sehr langen Namen wird gerade restauriert. Man kann nur den unteren Teil besichtigen. Die 200 Stufen sind schon anstrengend. Es gibt links von der Treppe einen Schrägaufzug, der wohl noch nicht in Betrieb ist.
Der Chedi Prathom Rattanamahaburaphachan ist von einem Parkplatz aus auf einer breiten Treppe von etwa 200 Stufen zu erreichen. Ein Schrägaufzug ist derzeit im Bau (März 2014). Das Gebäude liegt auf einer Terrasse, ist etwa 25 Meter hoch und im Innern finden sich Räume auf zwei Etagen, die zu Ehren einiger einst einflussreicher verstorbener Mönche eingerichtet wurden und auch Gegenstände aus deren persönlichem Besitz ausstellen. Beide Räume werden von kuppelförmigen Decken überspannt, die reich – in Gold auf rotem Grund – verziert sind. Der Chedi im Sri Lanka-Stil, reich geschmückt mit kleinen goldenen Mosaiksteinchen (die allerdings bereits stark abgeblättert sind), Marmor und Granit, lehnt sich in seinem architektonischen Stil und seiner farblichen Gestaltung an den Phra Pathom Chedi in Nakhon Pathom an – den höchsten buddhistischen Chedi weltweit. In seinem Inneren sollen auch Reliquien Buddhas aufbewahrt sein.

Wat Pa Phu Kon. , Tambon Khuea Nam, Amphoe Ban Phue, Udon Thani. Wat Pa Phu Kon is located in a very remote part of Issan but is very well signposted from route 2021 that heads west from ban Phue.
Head north on the M2 its sign posted for the turning on the left hand side of the road. about 35 min from Udon in the Car.
