Wat Phra Thong, Phuket, Thailand, is a popular attraction for both local residents who come to pray and visitors who visit to see a large Buddha statue which only shows its upper half as if it emerges from the ground. About 7km north of the Heroines Monument, Phuket's 'Temple of the Golden Buddha' is half buried, so only the head and shoulders are visible.

Although not the biggest temple on the island, Wat Phra Thong is one of the more famous temples of Phuket. It is known for it's astonishing legend of Phra Phud when a Buddha statue appeared out of the ground. The temple was constructed to protect the Buddha statue and give the people a place to come and pay their respects. In the temple grounds is also a small but interesting museum that has tin mining and other old artifacts. Visiting and locating Phra Thong Temple is not too difficult by car as it is just off highway route 402 which is the main airport road. After passing the Thalang intersection (heading towards the airport) do a u-turn and follow the signposts to the temple.

After breakfast this morning, board your motor coach and drive through the picturesque rice fields of Suphanburi to visit the 100 year old Samchuck Market, where traditional woven houses line its riverbank. Here you can browse through a wide range of products from local food to antiques.
Continue to the ancient city of Ayutthaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. King U-Thong founded the city in 1350 as the capital of his kingdom of Siam. By 1700, Ayutthaya had as many as a million inhabitants, making it one of the largest cities in the world at the time. But in 1767, the city was invaded and destroyed by the Burmese army. Magnificent ruins of the old city still remain, some having been restored. Exciting archaeological excavations are still proceeding at many sites in the area. Upon arrival, visit some of Ayutthaya's historical sites, such as Wat Chaiwattanaram, Wat Phra Sri Sanpetch, Wat Mongkhol Bophit, and Wat Yai Chaimongkhol.

Known by locals as Wat Lipon, this temple is in Thalang, north of Phuket Town. The first impression on entering the grounds is of the 29-metre-high Sleeping Buddha on top of the wat’s central building, so large that it is noticeable from the road outside.
Nearby are nine other smaller Buddha images in different positions – all facing the entrance as if welcoming people.

One of Phuket's most sacred places, Phra Nang Sang Temple is found on Thepkrasatri Road (the main airport road) about 30 minute's drive from Patong Beach in the town of Thalang. The temple is easy to find as it is close to the main traffic light junction at Thalang. Locals believe that Wat Phra Nang Sang was built on the orders of Phra Nang Leud Khaow or the White Blood Queen. The temple was built on the grounds of the Battle of Thalang, which took place in 1785 between the Thais and Burmese invaders. In the grounds are golden Buddha statues and images, a statue of the Heroines of Phuket and a Buddha cast out of tin.

Wat Tham Ta Pan Buddhist Temple in Phang Nga, Thailand. Fascinating Wat in Southern Thailand
New Thailand videos every Wednesday. Subscribe: Wat Tham Ta Pan is an interesting Buddhist temple in Phang Nga Province in southern Thailand. It is not far from the centre of Phang Nga town. Phang Nga town is about 1 hour north of Krabi and similarly about 1 hour north from Phuket. It's a great place for a interesting day out! It's not really on the tourist map, but you can get tours to there from Phang Nga, Phuket or Krabi. It is definitely worth spending a few hours to have a look when you travel Thailand and there's plenty of other things to see around Phang Nga including forests, caves with prehistoric paintings, islands, kayaking, James Bond Island, great food and restaurants, and some amazing temples. If you want to see one of the most amazing countries in the world be sure to visit Thailand!

Phuket Big Buddha พระพุทธมิ่งมงคลเอกนาคาคีรี (Phra Phutta Ming Mongkol Akenakiri or Ming Mongkol Buddha), is on the peak of mount Nagakerd, Subdistrict Karon. Big Buddha Statue width: 25.45 m. height: 45 m. Reinforced concrete structure adorned with white Burmese jade marble. The weight of the white jade marble is approximately 135 tons per 2,500 sq.m. You can even purchase a break or marble tile and sign your names to be places forever inside the Big Buddha.
The name “Phraphutthamingmongkhol-akenagakhiri” was later granted and appointed as the Buddha statue a treasure of Muang Phuket by Somdech Phra Yanasangvara, The Supreme Patriarch of Thailand on August 19, 2008. This was accepted with reverence by Mr.Suporn Wanichakul, the president of the corporation creating the Buddha statue.
Phuket Big Buddha has the best 360 degree views of the southern part of Phuket island, sightseeing of Phuket Town, Kata beach, Karon beach, Chalong Bay. The Phuket Big Buddha is easily reachable by a six kilometre road leading from Phuket's Chaofa road West, just 2 km from Chalong Circle
Wat Muang Ang Thong
Up at 4am, a 100km drive, and for sunrise at Wat Muang, Ang Thong Thailand. A 92 metre high Buddha statue, the tallest in Thailand.
Beautiful morning, but my flight log showed gusty winds of 33km, though you wouldn’t notice that from the video.

Located on 157, Chiang Mai-Hot Road, Baan Luang Sub-District, Chom Thong District on Km.58. Wat Phra That Si Chom Tong is the Burmese-style chedi and said to contain a relic of the Buddha. The viharn was built to a cross-shaped floor plan. The tastefully arranged, gilded wood carvings on the side gables, cornices and portals, as well as the ornamentation of the teak columns and beams inside, are of outstanding artistic quality. The viharn also contains a richly decorated altar in the Burmese style with two equally ornate tusks and various statues of Buddha. The seated bronze Buddha is highly revered.
