Wat Phraphutthabat Si Roi
Wat Phraphutthabat Si Roi - Mae Rim, Chiang Mai. This beautiful temple is set on a mountain, just an hours drive from Chiang Mai city.
Wat Phraphut Thabat Si Roi
Nestled in the hills about 50 kilometers northwest of Chiang Mai is Wat Phraphut Thabat Si Roi, a beautiful secluded temple that is often not visited by foreigners. Although construction is underway for additional temples, this is a beautiful place to visit. The story is that according to the local legend of the temple, all four of the previous Buddhas who have set foot on this Earth each visited this spot. The first, Buddha Kakusandha, left a 6 meter long footprint in stone. Many thousands of years later, the second Buddha, Konāgamana, came and left his own 4.5 meter footprint inside the footprint left by his predecessor. Many years later, the third Buddha, Kassapa, came and left his own 3.5 meter footprint on top of the other two. Finally, around 2,600 years ago, the historical Buddha Gotama supposedly came and left a 2 meter long footprint within the footprints left by the three previous Buddhas.
Now the story continues that the four holy footprints lay hidden among the trees and hills of Northern Thailand for a couple thousand years. Then, one day a heavenly being took the form of an eagle and flew down to a nearby village. There, the eagle snatched up a chicken from one of the villagers and flew off, up the mountain to the spot of the footprint. When some villagers chased the eagle to get their chicken back, they discovered the footprints and later had a temple built on this spot. (Ryan Zander)
Regardless, although the last few kilometers of road are somewhat rough, one can easily spend an hour or two wandering through the temple grounds. It makes for a nice ride up into the cooler temperatures of the hills, with scenic vistas, bamboo groves, and the beautiful temple itself.

THAILAND MOUNTAIN TEMPLE ON CHRISTMAS DAY.
Yet again in a bid to do something on Xmas day, you can't do in the UK, I set off up a mountain in Mae Rim, north of Chiang Mai to visit a temple. I was told the ride there was just as good as the temple itself and that was certainly the case. So please take a look and I hope you enjoy the journey there and the beautiful peace and serenity of Wat Phraphuttabat Si Roi. I also filmed the whole descent down the mountain on my 360 camera but that is for another video.
Wat Phraphutthabat Si Roi is a beautiful temple built near the place that pilgrims found four different footprints believed to be made by Buddha. Wat Phraphutthabat Si Roi is located in Mae Rim, about an hour away from Chiang Mai city and in the countryside. It is not easy to find as you need to drive through rice paddies and small villages but at the entrance, there is a large stone Buddha to mark the way.
