Exploring Kings Canyon | Australia's Red Centre
In this episode, I highlight my walk of Kings Canyon in Watarrka National Park in Australia's Northern Territory. Kings Canyon is an awesome 6 kilometer (3.7 miles) walking track...I was fortunate to have good company with two travelers I met at a hostel in Alice Springs. This was a spectacular day hike with lot's of diversity. As mentioned in the video, do exercise caution when you are near the edge of the canyon. Also, it might be wise to do this walk as early as possible as it can get quite hot at high noon. On days when the temperature forecast is 36 Celsius (96 Fahrenheit) or above, you must start the Rim Walk before 9am.

Kings Canyon Watarrka National Park Australia
Kings Canyon is part of the Watarrka National Park in Northern Territory, Australia.
The walls of Kings Canyon are over 300 metres high, with Kings Creek at the bottom. Part of the gorge is a sacred Aboriginal site and visitors are discouraged from walking off the walking tracks. The 6 km (loop) and 3-4 hour Kings Canyon Rim Walk- you see in the presentation how beautifull this walk is - traces the top of the canyon. A steep climb at the beginning of the walk, which locals call Heartbreak Hill (or Heart Attack Hill, due to its steepness), takes visitors up to the top, with spectacular views of the gorge below and of the surrounding landscape. About half way during the walk, a detour descends to Garden of Eden, a permanent waterhole surrounded by lush plant life. The last half of the walk passes through a large maze of weathered sandstone domes, reminiscent of the Bungle Bungle. A slow descent brings the visitor back to the starting point.

Exploring Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park | Australia's Red Center
In this video I meet up with two fellow travelers and explore Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park. This video kicks off my travels my travels inside Australia's Iconic Red Center. Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park is located Australia's Northern Territory fairly close to the town of Alice Springs. I met the 2 fellow travelers at a hostel in Alice Springs. The West MacDonnell Range is a 644 kilometer (400 mile) long series of mountains located in the center of Australia and is the one of the most spectacular and remote places I've ever been.
We were able to travel to all these locations without a 4WD vehicle and we (unfortunately) didn't do any overnight walks. Some of the highlights in this video were Ormiston Gorge, Serpentine Gorge, Ellery Creek, and Mount Sonder. I really enjoyed traveling with those blokes David and Jonas - I should have recorded more footage of all 3 of us together, but hey, no worries mate. If you're planning to travel to “the Alice,” I highly recommend a visit to Tjoritja / West MacDonnell National Park.

Kings Canyon Rim Walk, Australia's Red Centre - Spectacular!
Famous for iconic scene from Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and also for its spectacular beauty! Kings Canyon, Northern Territory in the centre of Australia. The 6km (3¾mile) mountainous Rim Walk showed us stunning scenery at every step, including the Garden of Eden deep inside the canyon. Slightly more green than normal in these shots due to heavy rains late 2016. Long day but definitely worth it! Be sure to take plenty of water and start early - they locked the gates at 9am if the day's temp is predicted to be too hot. The final shots are from a distance looking towards Kings Canyon, seeing the shot you can see from the movie, as well as the Aussie Qantas commercial. The clip finishes with a salt lake, common in surrounding areas in the centre of Australia. Between Alice Springs and Uluru, highly recommend doing this!
No photography could do it justice so these are just a taste.
Watarrka National Park (King's Canyon)
Watarrka National Park is in the Northern Territory, Australia, its main attraction being King's Canyon. King's Canyon is one of the major tourist attractions in the Red Centre in Australia. The scenic landscape in and around the Canyon is the result of millions of years of erosion. Enigmatic domes formations, sharp cliffs, and good views of the surrounding desert reward the visitor taking the Rim Walk around the Canyon. Watarrka has been home to Luritja people for several thousands years, and places in the canyon are still sacred sites.
The park houses a wide variety of desert plants and birds. A waterhole, aptly named the Garden of Eden, has given birth to a lush garden of green, a paradise for the local fauna. Be wary of the semi-arid climate and the risk of dehydration. In the summer months, temperature can very easily climb over 40°C during the day. Even in other seasons always respect the warning signs and do not risk your life attempting the walk in full heat. This is a lovely canyon walk; it's also available as a scenic helicopter flight. It's part of the same road system as Uluru, and is included on many of the tours. It's not technically speaking a town, as you might interpret it - it's a hotel at a canyon with a little swimming pool and a gas station.
There are 4 marked trails in the park, 3 from the base of the Canyon and another a little further along the Luritja Road towards the Lasseters Highway. The star trail here is the Rim Walk, a 7 km loop around the canyon. It begins with a long step-like climb, but anyone in average physical condition should be able to complete the whole walk without a problem in 5 hours maximum. The walk brings you very close to the canyon cliffs and the domes, with magnificent views of the surrounding area. At the extreme end of the loop is a short side trip to the lush green waterhole of the Garden of Eden. There is only one direction for the walk. Whatever the time of the year, try to start the walk early in the morning. There are emergency phones at the top of the climb and at the far end of the loop. Beware of the heat in the day (even in winter), and take at least 1.5 litres of water with you for every hour walking. Although there are rescue helicopters that can get you if it all goes wrong - they cost a pretty penny, so if you're not up to it, don't do it.
