Then take a hike on a nearby section of the Appalachian Trail, or rent a bike and coast down the famous Virginia Creeper Trail in nearby Damascus, VA. Visit the Butler Tennessee Museum to learn the story of “The town that wouldn’t drown”. If you are here during Old Butler Days the second weekend in August, enjoy small town music, games, food, vendors and even a “train ride” (for the kiddies).
The Watauga Lake Cottage Rental was built by the owner, Vikki Woods. The Cottage Rental is meant to be her retirement cottage once she decides to retire from innkeeping at the Iron Mountain Inn B&B also in Butler TN. So guests will find little touches not normally found in other cottage rentals, such as, a dumb waiter to take luggage and laundry upstairs; fully equipped kitchen a gourmet chef will enjoy; a two person jetted tub and a steam shower; a handicapped bedroom and bath on the first floor; and an open floor plan so everyone visiting can participate in the fun.
The Watauga Lake Cottage Rental will sleep 6 people comfortably in 3 bedrooms each with ensuite bath. There is an alcove at the end of the upstairs hall with a Queen bed which will use the first floor bathroom. Please no more than 8 guests.

In the late 1960s, about 2.5 miles of rail were re-laid on the gorge right-of-way and a train ran again as part of an amusement park. ( Hillbilly World ) It operated until about 1974 and then again briefly around 1977.

Our first camping trip in 2016. We went to Cardens Bluff Campground in Hampton, TN. We stayed at campsite No. 26. It was the best one (IMO). It was pretty windy and we only got to stay one night but it was a good trial run.
